Its good, but deep down I just want a new nine inch nails album.

Yeah, no doubt. The last three Nine Inch Nails albums were incredible, too. Trent's experimentation in producing new sound for each release is fascinating.

Maybe I would like HTDA more if they got rid of his wife. I hate her voice, and most of all, I hate the lyrics.

That's my problem with HTDA. And the band's name is goofy as hell.

Yeah, no kidding. Seriously? How To Destroy Angels? That's some middle-school gothic culture shit. Mariqueen Maandig had no future in the music industry until she married Trent Reznor.

Maybe you just don't get the reference, but How To Destroy Angels was the name of the first single from Coil - one of the most influential bands in industrial music.

Trent has long been a fan of Coil, including having them do some NIN remixes for the Fixed and Further Down The Spiral eps, as well as signing them to Nothing records at one point.

So while the name may sound ridiculous to you in 2013, there is actually a lot of history and meaning behind it. If you have any interest in the influences of what I presume is one of your favourite artists, you should definitely check out Coil. A very unique and innovative band, quite unlike just about anything else out there.

Also, the song in question: How To Destroy Angels

I highly recommend checking this alternate mix album http://www.nin.com/still/ . There's a video somewhere of Trent playing all of these tracks acoustic, it's fucking magical.

Awesome track. Finally MMR is singing without imitating TR. She needs to stop using his techniques of singing and be herself, which is what you can hear in this track. Need more of this!

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.

I have that album. It's great. Definitely one of my favorites.

I've never listened to Coil before. I'll have to check them out.

I already knew it. I get it. I don't care. It's a garbage name and Coil is a garbage band.

:O Blasphemy!!!!

Nah, that's fine. Coil's not for everyone, I get that. Although, I have to wonder how much of their stuff you have listened to in order to form such a strong opinion.

Anyway, I won't derail the thread any further.

A tour consisting NIN, HTDA, and Trent and Atticus playing some Social Network and GWTDT tracks in the middle would be awesome.

what in the snuff film kind of visuals is that? it's cool neither the less

I re listened to the first two 2 eps yesterday and I had a much more positive reaction to it than before.

Kind of weird they add 2 exclusive bonus tracks to the vinyl. I will buy it regardless but still, what is the point of doing that?

Love me some Alessandro Cortini!

It's a tradition. The same tradition where Cassette tapes might or might not have additional tracks (or some of them have tracks from other artists as a "preview").

It's done because CD can hold 80 or so minutes of songs whereas Vinyl holds less than CD but more when multiple Vinyls are used. The extra space is filled with bonus tracks.

That and marketing.

On first listen, I like it more than just the EPs, which didnt really convince me. The LP contains some good stuff :)

Man, I kind of want the vinyl but I have no player. Just think it would be cool to have. Unless there is some relatively cheap decent set up.

I have listened throughout the day and I have to say, this album is fucking good! Can't wait to see how they perform these songs live this year.

Oh and thanks for explanation Shagg.

Underwhelming sums up HTDA pretty well, in my opinion.

I agree. There are some interesting concepts but it isn't as layered as old NiN songs, which I always liked. I also don't really care for Mariqueen's voice, which is strange because she sounded pretty good with her old band.

Trent needs to stop propping up his wife and get back to NIN.

And WTF did I buy an Omen EP for if they're repeating tracks on this? WTF is this shit?

I just got to How long?. Favorites so far (excluding stuff we've heard already):

The wake-up
And the sky began to scream
Welcome oblivion

I really should give her old band a listen. Out of anything HTDA has done, her voice is what has stood out most for me.

RE: the album. I'll give it a few more listens. But I can't help and just think of it as an extension to Ghosts.... and nearly everything else ('cept that Tetsuo track) TR has done since YZ. There's 2-3 tracks that got my attention for sure.

Also, I can't believe there's another damn song about fading away, lolol.
