I really don't want to drop the "git gud" comment, but man him complaining that the game was too hard really made want to.
Do you play and enjoy Souls games, Salt and Sanctuary, Bayonetta, DmC etc? These games are challenging sure, but if you don't get greedy, play patiently and understand the game mechanics then they are all able to be beaten. Same goes for this.
Kyle Bosman talked about Bloodborne and it's game of year chances last year at The Game Awards. His comment was "while the game is great, I don't think it has much change for GotY because games journalists aren't very good at video games". While a hilarious comment, he isn't wrong.
Bottom line is Hyper Light Drifter is wonderful! Don't let one person complaining that the game is too hard turn you off.
So like how brutally difficult is this game really? The RPS piece is making me wonder if this game is right for me.
If you learn the mechanics of the game, it's completely fair. It's just not a button masher.
Edit: It still is difficult, but it's fair. Tread carefully.
That comment states its an entirely new playable character. What you unlock for doing the chain dash challenges is just an aesthetic skin for the character/weapon/companionSo the comment from the Kickstarter campaign is no longer acccurate?

OK, then is there currently a way to switch to the dfifferent playable character? I applied the Steam key to my account but I can't figure out how to enable it in-game.That comment states its an entirely new playable character. Can anyone comment on keyboard and mouse vs controller? Is it recommended that I plug in a controller? If so can I use a dualshock 4?

I don't know about a Dualshock 4 but a controller is definitely the way to go. The big problem with keyboard and mouse is the way the dash ability is targeted towards your mouse cursor. It would be much more useful if you simply dashed in the direction last pressed on the keyboard.
Not everything. Gonna take a while for sure, lol.I can't imagine he got everything. My friends and I played the alpha to 100% and that took us 5 hours itself. That was like one area
You change outfits inside your house above your bed. There are three computers, one for companion, Sword, and outfit.Does anyone that didn't back the Kickstarter see an option for unlocking an alternate costume in-game? It's in the options menu somewhere.
See above. To any backers, I'm curious if there's a way to turn off the gold companion and weapon? I much prefer the default versions :/
Other than that, loving the game so far! It's everything I had hoped for.
I was able to change costumes before finishing the game. Costume was obtained before reaching the South area.Does anyone that DIDN'T back the game see an option to unlock an alternate costume in the game menus? I see it but I can't activate it until I finish the game.
I don't think so. I backed at a level that should give me the soundtrack yet I haven't seen an unlock key or anything.
The first Dash upgrade has to be the first upgrade. I can't see any other being that important.Man, you really have to carefully consider your upgrades. What was the first upgrade you got?
Go farther North in Town for the Sword and Dash upgrade rooms.Wait, what's the Dash Challenge? Where is that?
Where can I find the different upgrades, I only found the Health/Pistol/Bomb ones so far?

Thanks. The only computer that's working for me is the companion one. I'm not sure if I have to play more before the other two start working. You change outfits inside your house above your bed. There are three computers, one for companion, Sword, and outfit.
I went for hitting back projectiles, charged attack, and more health. Next time, I'll go for the grenade.Man, you really have to carefully consider your upgrades. What was the first upgrade you got?
Oh, yeah, the multi-dash is really useful. Very helpful to be able to flank behind ranged enemiesThe first Dash upgrade has to be the first upgrade. I can't see any other being that important.
For me the order was: Dash, Reflect projectiles, Health Pack, X + A Dash, others
Honestly, now I'm just salty. Total waste of 3 hours trying to get this controller to work. Reinstalled the game, tried so many fixes and nothing, $20 of nothing. Can't even play the way Heartmachine wants, FFS.
It's the little details that can really make a game special. The way your cloak moves with each strike. The dust-throwing skid at the end of a multi-dash. Leaving pools of blood or snowy footprints in your wake.

Oh, went with the multi-dash like you suggested. From playing the Preview so much, I felt really handicapped without it. I value so much in keeping a safe distance.
What did you go with?
Should be in the games folder. I forget the directory but just Google 'steam games folder'Anyone know where the save files for this game are stored? I can't find them. The game does not appear to have cloud save and I put over an hour into it at work today and was hoping to continue playing tonight at home.
Those blocks with arrows means you need to beat the boss from that area. Arrows facing up are North, Left is West, etc.In the northern part of the map, on the last quadrant for that area. Need some help with this part: http://i.imgur.com/L0Kecuf.png?1
Not sure where to go from there

Maybe? I believe you have to activate those four devices to open the boss fight area; I've activated three, looking for the fourth, and the map is saying it's in that area: http://i.imgur.com/PVXUrjf.png?1Those blocks with arrows means you need to beat the boss from that area. Are you having trouble finding the boss?
Biggest hurdle so far: choosing Link over Fez as player name.![]()
Man this game feels so great to play.
The framerate is strange though. Usually 30 FPS is no bother for me but something is going when I move that blurs things and is quite dizzying / straining on the eyes.
Might just be tired though, had a late night and sometimes looking at a monitor bothers me.
OK got gamepad working via DS4, here's my process:
- Downloaded newest version of C++ Redistributable
- Restarted PC
- Closed Steam, UPlay, etc
- Started DS4Windows, clicked "hide DS4 controller"
- Started Steam, started game
No particular rhyme or reason to what I did, that's just what worked for me.
