Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

For anyone who bought the Grenade upgrade, how is it? Useful? Worth the cost? How does it work, does it draw from your ammo or something?

Very useful, it's basically your only AoE attack and there's a lot of opportunities to get value off it. I think I've killed like 6-7 dudes at once with it. It doesn't use ammo, it has a cool down.

You need to use the rifle, the pistol won't activate it.

I see! Genuine, non-salty question: is that good game design? I definitely appreciate a degree of obtuseness in my games, but only as long as when I take a step back I can see how the devs were trying to naturally coax me in that direction. As it stands, I can't say I'd really have a way of knowing this solution. In fact, having unsuccessfully tested
my pistol
on the
pillar
I can't say I'd be able to follow the game's logic once I actually had
the rifle
.

It's so weird. The soundtrack, so far, really does nothing for me and I don't understand why. I usually adore Disasterpeace but for some reason I just don't feel anything here which makes me sad

Oh and screw that chain dash challenge. I got ~140 legit, and can only manage 400 using the M/KB cheese method.

I broke 800 finally, best method for me was Dash mapped to a Soft Pull on the Steam Conrroller. Stopped me from getting too fatigued. Also helped to mute the game and cover up the counter since they were out of sync with my dashing (or at least they were definitely distracting)

Fair question, and one I asked myself before I figured it out. For my part I'd already tried shooting the damn thing with the pistol so many times, once I got the laser I was like 'aha!', so it was a logical progression for me. But I can see how it would be easy to miss. Then again, if it were vital for progression, perhaps it's a bit too obtuse... but for optional puzzles? Yeah, I think it's ok.

That's a shame... I absolutely love the soundtrack, didn't know the artist going in. It's a perfect fit with the aesthetic and tone.

About the story, (east gate spoilers)
the arm holding a giant sword we see there belongs to one of the eva-like beings in the opening, doesn't it? Were we observing from a great distance when they fell to whatever it is that killed them (maybe that beam of light?) or were we actually there? Did we cause this shit? Or were we looking into the past because of black goo induced trips?

I have no idea of what I'm doing.

EDIT: By the way, does the "dash through projectiles" upgrade only give you projectile invulnerability or full iframes to avoid any damage?

MUCH harder. You get all Dash and Sword abilities off the bat but you only have two hit points.

THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING. Really can't wait for that.

BTW, how satisfying is to break the crystals? :D
As a loyal Hyrule gardener, I can't resist the urge to break and cut everything.

Oh, that's just for the node thingy? I thought it was something I had to do to finally reach the fragment in that dungeon. If it's just an optional thing, yeah, that's totally fine.

Has anyone had much trouble with mid-game crashes? I was playing it and having a blast, and then it hard-locked within the first 30 minutes and it has absolutely crushed my enthusiasm. I just gave up and went to bed. I'll give it another shot tonight, but I'm hoping my experience was out of the ordinary.

Well. I spent five minutes with the pistol and the shotgun (?) trying to hit it and couldn't find an angle. Tried reflecting back projectiles too. After that I could only try the rifle and got it on my second or third try.

If I had hit it with the pistol I would be confused too. To be honest, there is a section in the north
completely in the dark where I didn't understood the purpose of it. I had to guess how pass some moving blocks instead of timing it since I couldn't see crap and it felt really dumb.
Weak links in a overall strong chain, I guess.

Now that is pissing me off since I can't find that fragment at all.

Can't find the 8th fragment for the north zone- I'm assuming it's behind the key door (I think 10 are required) in the village half way up the hill. Can anyone who's found them all confirm?

Do we know if the devs read GAF? If they do, could you guys please add a borderless fullscreen mode? Plssss

EDIT: Are cutscenes skippable on NG+?

Yeah, I guess those moments really stand out because they're in a game that is otherwise communicating everything else about itself in brilliantly subtle ways.

/Fuck/ that dungeon, though. It also pisses me off that in order to keep searching for the goddamn fragment, I have to essentially complete the whole thing over and over again since it just resets.

Having trouble with the north boss... is the general consensus that it's one of the harder ones?

He was the first boss I fought and beat him in one go. Felt pretty easy, just dash towards him when he starts laying down the squares, at least that worked for me!

There is a part in the east dungeon
behind a 3 key door with an automated turret, after you finish it all there is something on a corpse far south but I have no idea how to get there because it is way too far! Anyone had any luck?

Hmmm, I'm a bit confused. I got the four fragments in the north but there are three pillars preventing me from going to the boss. What am I supposed to be doing now?

Edit: Maybe never mind! Found a building on the right i could go down into.

only got to play for about 30 min last night but the game is fantastic so far. I hope the game presents itself slowly and rewards exploration. Wish I could stay home today and play this game

The game loaded up fine for me on my normal desktop, but when I went to pull it up on my Steam Link streaming from that desktop, I couldn't get any sound. Anyone else tried it on a Steam Link?

Find a door that requires you to have 3 fragments. It's on the right of one the upper zones. IIRC you have to fall down something to get there. You'll get into a dungeon that eventually leads you to the area with the boss.

reminds me of Beyond Oasis for the Genesis in design and...man...this is hitting me real hard. I love this game so far.

gameplay + music + aesthetics are all A+

I posted this problem a few pages back. Finally got it to work. You have to force it to open with the Nvidia card and not the integrated graphics. Here's how:

See the fix above.

Yeah, I'm having the problem on a Surface Pro 3 so I'm not sure if this is an option. Someone else with the same Surface didn't have the problem at all so I don't know what's up. Anyone know what happens if I disable the display driver when there isn't another to fall back on? Will I be stuck with a black screen?

Found him, thanks!

Just wanted to chime in to say the game is everything I hoped it would be for these past few years. Really pleased with the final product.

Only advice, wear some nice headphones and have them up loud. Between the fantastic music and the really cool sound design, it's a treat for the ears when you can pick up on all of it.

Nope... But there's not many of them. It's not been too big a bother.

The length of the death resurrection anim on the other hand, gah, I wish we could hammer dash or something to get it over with faster. It's a pain when you're trying to kill a boss for the umpteenth time.

This sounds annoying, indeed.

Yea that's my biggest complaint so far.

Man I love this game. Now that I got my weird technical issues fixed (monitor related) I can enjoy it and let it all sink in. Music is brilliant.

Some guys on Steam Forums are already working on understanding the game's language. Pretty impressive to see, but here goes any chance of me understanding the story by myself, I guess. No way in hell I can figure that out. Unless it's mostly flavor text and not necessary.

This isn't an issue for me since I never die. :^)

lol

An evil arrives causing destruction. You're summoned by something (the dog? Whatever it is) to defeat that evil but you're also dying from it.

Art direction is beautiful and that Disasterpeace music!

Had to play the beginning with mouse and keyboard, will jump back in when i have a controller around.

Game bugged out on me at one point and set my death spawn location right in the path of a wall slam trap. Couldn't escape the trap due to the long death resurrection animation so in the end, I had to quit & reload. Fortunately, I didn't lose any progression.

Other than that, fun game. Beat the north boss after maybe half a dozen tries.

First time round, the only boss that required a lot of restarts was the final one. But on NG+ (and only two health segments) you end up dying a lot.

Had a Dark Souls moment. You know, when you're on your last bit of health and no more refills and the boss only needs one more hit to go down, and you need to close the distance to get that one last strike in, and that feeling of tension as you make that desperate but carefully timed roll to land the killing blow

I am the only one to have an "unknown error" since an update ? I cannot launch the game anymore :/

At least I can try to delete the game and reinstall it again but I want to keep my save, how should I proceed ?

I accidentally upgraded the guides life filling slot which was dumb since I never had the three he already had to begin with and will probably never fill up 4

Eastern area may be my favorite. So beautiful.

And at least 3 nodes that I don't know how to reach. And I'm up against the boss with only 2 HP.

It's so weird. The soundtrack, so far, really does nothing for me and I don't understand why. I usually adore Disasterpeace but for some reason I just don't feel anything here which makes me sad

I'm not feeling it either, it's decent and appropriately moody but overall it's just sort of... there. It never stands out or gets you pumped which I would have appreciated in the high-action rooms and bossfights. I felt exactly the same about Fez's soundtrack though.
