Hyper Light Drifter |OT| We On A HyperLight Beam

I still couldn't get the improved dash to trigger on a consistent basis.

Quit the game in frustration until I can figure it out.

Very useful, it's basically your only AoE attack and there's a lot of opportunities to get value off it. I think I've killed like 6-7 dudes at once with it. It doesn't use ammo, it has a cool down.
Deciding between this upgrade, the charge attack, or reflect projectiles

From what I've read, reflecting projectiles is a game changer. That's definitely my next upgrade.

Improved dash stiiiinks.

Just got it to access a few areas that seem to require it.

Wut improved dash is amazing..... just gotta get the timing down, I didn't find it too hard

There is an audio cue. Press the button in the same rhythm as the dash sound effect.

Maybe it's my controller, but it just seemed to randomly trigger.

For the "puzzles" that require you to use it, I would just die. Never came close to working properly.

I'll try it again later.

No reviews for this yet, how is it fairing? I got burned couple weeks ago by buying Slain before waiting on impressions, want to not make the same mistake again.

Had a Dark Souls moment. You know, when you're on your last bit on your health and not more refills and the boss only needs more hit to go down, and you need to close the distance to get that one last strike in, and that feeling of tension as you make that desperate but carefully timed roll to land the killing blow

Same thing happened to me with the West boss. I put my controller down for a few minutes to recover. I almost got greedy and that would have been that but at the last second I dodged. Phew.

I fucking love this game. Oh man. I don't want it to end.

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I had a game consume my thoughts like this one. I know what I'm doing this weekend between concerts tonight and tomorrow.

Another saved me, yeaaaaaah :D

I'm not feeling it either, it's decent and appropriately moody but overall it's just sort of... there. It never stands out or gets you pumped which I would have appreciated in the high-action rooms and bossfights. I felt exactly the same about Fez's soundtrack though.

The same for me, it contributes to the atmosphere I can give it that but when it comes to battle it's basically non existent

As I posted earlier, I can't wait to continue playing this game after work. I'm just wondering if it's overly convoluted and difficult or if it's the right balance and is enjoyable. Cause so far I'm in the beginning and I'm loving it, so I'm hoping it continues being great

There are a few minor things that bother me (like getting upgrade fragments instead of full upgrade points - 1/4th heart pieces in Zelda are NOT a feature that should be copied!), but this is the new bar to beat when it comes to overhead Action/RPG combat. So good.

It's hard but not stupid, don't worry

I have to agree that I didn't find the dash upgrade too useful. Maybe I just wasn't using it right. But the reflecting projectiles thing is a godsend against certain bosses.

2nd chain dash challenge............... end me

In the dash shop? Or is there another one? If there's another then I am already dead.

Dash upgrade is the best y'all are crazy. Hyper light drifting for life, mobility is king. It only takes a little while to get the dash chain usable on a basic level.

I hope, we get word about the stretch goal content. It seems some stuff is missing. To be honest, I do not mind if we won't get it, but on the other hand it means more of this great game. I finished two bosses so far. And I want to play more.

Metacritic lists a whopping one review total for this game. Do news sites not care?
They sent review copies on March 30th. So it is understandable that there won't be any reviews on the day of launch.

I'm in the eastern area, and
In the transitional zone before the path to the frog boss there's another way in that gets you near to the ninja frogs on the next level up, but I can't find it and it's driving me insane
. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Edit: Naturally, as soon as I posted this I immediately remembered.
You have to double back after the first fight to get to the bridge to the boss and have another fight
.

Does anyone know how I open this door?

Yeah the one in the shop, I topped out at 200-ish and the bar wasn't even half full

Damn the sword dash-slash upgrade. So good. Shame it expends so much stamina. The upgrade that let me down is the shield dash. So awkward to use.

And the surprise
bullet hell boss
in the south is great, as is the music on the room after it. So tense.

I broke 800 finally, best method for me was Dash mapped to a Soft Pull on the Steam Conrroller. Stopped me from getting too fatigued. Also helped to mute the game and cover up the counter since they were out of sync with my dashing (or at least they were definitely distracting)

Thanks for this, top-tier advice. Muted the game, fired up YouTube on my second monitor and tapped space for a couple of minutes. Got it first try!

Though as someone else said earlier, the reward isn't really worth it. The default colours are nicer, though I'll be wearing the blue and purple set for a while just to get my money's worth.

Yeap that bad boy is 800, thought it was gonna be 1k and I was demoralized for a little while.

Glad to help! I actually agree, the color palette is just ok. But since you can mix n match I'm hoping one of those pieces goes well with a dif set.

Finally managed to download and play for 20 minutes or so. Daaaaaaayummmmmn that intro!!! This is gonna be good.
One question though. Has anyone had access to their soundtrack/OSTs yet? I can't find it.

Edit: Nevermind. Reread the initial backer email stating that they'll send it out when it's ready.

This game is really gorgeous. Just fantastic use of color and gradients and whatnot.

Enjoy my time with it, just wish the controls were snappier and/or more responsive. Feels sluggish at times...probably due to the framerate. Sometimes when there are many enemies on screen it turns into a crapshoot. Speaking of shooting, aim/shooting in this game is a bit awkward I'm not of its usefulness in the middle of combat, except for quickfiring. Maybe I'll get some useful abilities later on. I'm just starting, chose the eastern side first.

Shooting's really useful IMO. You can even the odds a bit from a distance before getting into the thick of combat, and then you dash out to get some breathing room and take some shots in the midst of battle

Played about an hour of this last night.

It's way tougher than I thought it was gonna be. Probably because I'm still getting used to the controls, but I feel like I never have enough healing items. I kinda wish the health packs were more like Estus flasks so I'd get them back whenever I die. I really need to get better and dashing out of the way of attacks and obstacles.

Staggeringly beautiful though. Everything about this game looks and sounds phenomenal.

When the game saves, it remembers your current health & health pack total. If you mess up an encounter early on, it's sometimes worthwhile to intentionally kill yourself rather than try to salvage things just so you don't lose health/packs.

Does anyone know how I open this door?

I don't think it ever opens.

In the room to the right and up there is a pillar you can shoot with the laser beam. There are two ranged guys close to it for reference.

Once you kill them and create the bridge, there is a hidden passage on the wall you walk through to get to that locked room.
