I am unironically loving Breath of wild more than skyrim

The best thing I love from that game, is the trial section. Those are soo good. The stamina climbing is top notch. The durability of the weapons' makes me try all kind of weapons'.

Great game. 10/10.

I loved the game. Had to put it down after some time since it's veeery long, but once I came back I couldn't put it down.

Only downsides for me are the difficulty curve and the lack of proper dungeons, which could have made the exploration much more rewarding and interesting.

That aside yeah, great game and the comfiest of adventures.

Btw... How do you love a game ironically?

Eh I prefer skyrim, loots and world design is drastically better than BOTW.

Loot system does not exist in BOTW lol.

Um okay? Not really a weird opinion

BOTW was a good proof of concept, but like suffered from a lack of story, dungeons, items that other zeldas had. And while having a great open world playground, it still fell into the usual open world growing pains of a lack of enemy variety, shrine variety, and lots of repetitive content in general.

I suspect BOTW2 to be the masterpiece everyone claims BOTW was now that the engine is already done.

God of War is another game that people claim to be a masterpiece this generation, but I dont think it will be until the sequel for similar reasons.

Honestly I don't see the point of comparing both, it's like some says :"apples and oranges"

Errr, not a weird opinion at all.

I love Skyrim but the combat really is ass.

BoTW is simply beautiful. It's an adventure simulator. My favourite game of all time, without doubt, but I do recognise the criticisms.

Both are great games. Funny enough, I've actually been playing Skyrim lately, first time ever really. It's not the type of game I'd play on a TV, but in PSVR I'm completely hooked. It's so much fun exploring caves and doing random quests. I'm currently making my way to a crypt to fight vampires. I had no idea that Vampires were in Skyrim, so effing cool.

All I want in BOTW2 is actual dungeons or massive caves to explore. The world in BOTW isn't empty by any means but the gameplay loop of finding shrines got to be a slog after a while. I put like 70-80 hours into the game and only have a handful of shrines left but I don't know if I'll ever boot the game back up. My playthrough was super memorable though. I should probably get the DLC before the Wii U eShop closes.

I mean, me too lol. Skyrim is hugely successful, but I couldn't get into it at all despite enjoying Morrowind and Oblivion.

You should be adventuring in your own real life backyard woods OP, not wasting time on a computer game:

Also Skyrim has dragons so its winner, duh. I played Breath of the Wild for 16 minutes and I didn't see any dragons at all so don't tell me it has any and don't show me any of your clearly photoshopped "evidence" screenshots.

Thanks Kingfey, Thingfey.

I would have liked BOTW a lot more if not for that one issue. Poor design choice, imo.

I prefer Super Mario over Sonic. Seriously. Am I the only person?

That's nothing. I prefer Pokémon over Digimon.

How far in are you? Sounds like only a couple of hours, because both the trials and the weapon degradation get old fast.

Actually, there is no need to fight most of the times, the weapons breaking just made me avoid almost every confrontation because there was nothing to gain.

I also missed actual dungeons.

I most definitely call this game a running simulator. I recently started playing it for the first time and I almost permanently shelved the game, never to be touched again.

You spend so much time traveling so far and running over the place, only to hit a road blocks. Most of my game sessions are spent just running around. I felt like i was wasting my life away playing video games after doing a few 2 hour game sessions and all i did was mostly run around.

Now, Im really liking the game and understanding the whole game design. Its just a super long game with a lot of down time in it. I'm hoping that my travels will unravel into something that feels like actual game progression.

And I can't stand weapons breaking btw....

Game has a 97 metascore and has consistently been placing in the top spots on "best games ever" list all around the internet. You are probably not the only one who likes it better than Skyrim.

Still like BotW better but yeah, shitty loot and lack of proper dungeons are my 2 biggest issues with the game.

With that said loot in Skyrim is pretty shitty too. If you get into blacksmithing you can make 99% of the loot you find through quests and exploration irrelevant

I am 3 hour in to the game.
As for fighting, I like fighting enemies. It's one of the reasons why I play open world games, aside of exploring.

And there's nothing wrong with that, everyone has an opinion.

I unfortunately put so much time into it that I put it down and never cared to pick it back up again. This happened when I was grinding dungeons. However, with Skyrim at and around launch, I put a surreal amount of time into it and never put it down. 🤷‍♂️

Absolutely.
I'd have liked that game, could have forgiven the lack of structure, dungeons, etc. but weapons being made out of styrofoam was just too aggravating.
And I'm not even against durability systems, but what BotW does is completely nonsensical.

Well, gameplay wise Skyrim doesn't hold a candle against Zelda but then again... so does Zelda compared to Skyrim when it comes to story and lore. I played both and love Skyrim to death. Breath of the Wild was a very good game too but I wish I could have liked it more. I mean, I saw the appeal and all but it just wasn't fully my thing. Shame...

Skyrim is great for me with mods.
BOW on other hand, makes it harder for you to know anything. It's like marrowind.

BOW mechanics takes the edge for me. But if it's skyrim modded version, then skyrim will take the edge.

I am done my 1st break. Talk later. My supervisor have been on my arse these days. Can't chat from the computer job.

*People complaining about breaking flame swords two minutes after they find them*

*Me running around with the same 9 elemental weapons for 6 hours and only using them when I need to one shot elemental baddies or to affect things with that element feeling like I'm on a mega adventure where the tools I've found really matter to me and even if they did break I go back to where I've marked one is and defeat the enemy again and get it or pick it up*

I imagine people hitting ore formations and trees with their best weapons/elemental weapons instead of using an axe/hammer too, brilliant. I hope weapon breaking is still in the new one, just that they last a little bit longer, can be made to last 10x as long through some sort of method and can be repaired generally. The former and latter being the most important things.

Look, I get it, if you aren't doing any challenges/collectibles or exploring for secrets and going relatively fast through the games main content in each region you maybe won't be fully stocked or have extra space to carry more weapons like I did, I think this game is just 10x better when you do those things though, which is unfortunate for this type of player.

You're choosing to not explore and get stocked up or have an advantage from getting the carry capacity upgrades, you're making it harder for yourself so you should be more careful with powerful weapons and use them sparingly, for utility or only when it confers a mega bonus damage like with opposite elements, eg one shotting Wizzrobes or Lizalfos.

Tell him/her they're a piece of shit from me.

Say: "if you want me to be working all the time then pay me an hourly rate/salary" then flick your hair towards them and get back on GAF.

And why is this a controversial opinion?!

I liked botw more than skyrim aswell, even with all his flaws.

Don't get me wrong, they are both overrated AF, but botw was a better experience overall.

That's a normal opinion, BOTW is a game-changer. Both games are spectacular.

"I don't know yet if it's a blessing or a curse that some things we do have become cemented in the gaming vernacular. I'll see games that seem to borrow from [Skyrim], but it's surface stuff. I like to design for flow. Skyrim has a certain flow – it's almost relaxing, comforting, when you zone in. [Breath of the Wild] has that. Actually, Zelda does it so much better. That's a brilliant game." - Todd Howard

Acceptable opinion, not sure what gave you the impression it wouldn't be. They're both very different games that set out to accomplish different things.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

You should be ashamed of yourself for liking any game more than Skyrim. Even more disgraceful if you didn't buy skyrim with every rerelease that you can possibly purchase.

Breath of the Wild is a 7/10 game for me. Fix durability and it would be an 8. Have dungeons and it would be a 10. The game was good, but it had a lot going against it for me and left out too many of Zelda's trademark features.

For me, Breath of the Wild was a letdown.

I find the combat too shallow and easy, the bosses are easy and repetitive and the side-quests are uninteresting. I enjoyed almost any open-world game I have played in the last two generations more than BotW, including Oblivion and Skyrim.

I also had more fun playing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

However I'm still going to try the sequel.

The first 20 hours or so of Breath of the Wild felt like an adventure. After that the sheen wore off some. I should hope you like it more than Skyrim, since it's a decade newer. Games should be getting better all the time, if they had stagnated to the point that a new Zelda isn't more fun than an old Skyrim then the industry would need major changes.

Skyrim has its perks but Breath of the Wild was a new experience altogether. It seems they challenged to really make the game have Link utilize his tools more realistically. I also felt that the overall story too was one of my favorites since Twilight Princess GC.

If you're still playing -- keep on playing and enjoying and share some screenshots of that awesome scenery too.

It's no wonder why Breath of the Wild 2 is taking so long. Nintendo/Aonuma knows full well, especially after all the accolades (GOTY's galore), the expectations are on a sequel, and that just making "BOTW Expansion" or a "Majora's Mask" type game as far as content expansion goes would probably be received underwhelmingly.

And now with Elden Ring/From Software making a mark in the "open world" genre, the expectations are all the more higher too.
