I believe in Phil Spencer

I believe in MS cleaning up the shit they tried to pull in the past and are trying to attract more consumers.

I believe in MS cleaning up the shit they did in the past and trying to attract more consumers.

Bingo, I like what theyre doing as of this moment, but none of these people are your friends folks

They can support creativity and consumers, thats great but its all $$$

Why sing his praises? What new game has been announced? What new partnerships have been revealed? What new studios have been opened?

This past week has been almost pure PR from Microsoft with very little being accomplished. They're taking Xbox One games multiplatform. They've closed studios and shuttered games. They've declared they'll do cross-play which is something the other platform holders have done for a while. It's really remarkable when threads with new PC/WiiU/PS4 games and new game info and new info about NX are dropping off the first page in favor of threads about the Xbox/PC ecosystem and now cross-platform multiplayer.

Phil is a "good guy" because he's not as bad as Mattrick? He's a good guy because he's gradually correcting some terrible mistakes from the past?

My standard is not that low.

I've heard game developers and publishers say that Phil the right man for the Head of Xbox job and that's good enough for me.

Ask LionHead if they believed him till the last second.

MS is Essentially Throwing everything at the wall, and seeing if something sticks. The x1 would have had a great launch if they acted like this from the start.

I don't. As an Xbox One and PC owner, I see no reason why I continue to own an Xbox One aside from Rare Replay. There are no exclusives for it.

I believe in Phil Spencer too. Seems like a good guy. Problem is that you and seemingly a lot of other people are under the impression he has any real say in what goes on at Microsoft. That's not the case, that stuff is all decided by the board and the shareholders. The reality is that he's a PR guy who exists to cover up the shady shit the rest of the company does.

I believe in the bold part of this post. I think Spencer is ok though i do not trust him.

He does have SOME form of sway with gaming IP's and his division. But yeah in the long run, he's not the big cheese there, especially compared to Satya and the shareholders

I'm glad you have the insider knowledge to educate us on what the rest of a multinational enterprise are thinking.

I believe in Santa Claus

The things metioned in the OP are good. Phil has said some sensible things lately. Unfortunately, as sole representative lone ranger of the XBox division, he has Microsoft's history of shittiness and bad PR to overcome yet.

You know what, I thought they were on the right path but now I don't think so. Somehow Microsoft always manages to just fuck everything up after they seem to be doing everything right. The way they're handling Xbox games on the Windows store is terrible.

This.

I had a dream that Phil attended my sweet sixteen birthday. He brought this amazing gift and we sat in my room and opened it, but just as I began to open it, he told me close my eyes and to just feel what was inside the box...

After much fiddling, I got into the box and to feel around... There was a faint bubblegum scent in the air and Phil's voice had changed from upbeat to more gruff and grunty...

Yeah, get right in there...he grunted... It was soft and wet, I kept poking around until I found a small crevice or hole...that's it Miles he moaned, your gift is just inside... Slide a finger in and see what it is..

Yikes. LOL

Xbox has done some good things under Phil. But everything done so far seems to be a reactionary move.

Their next console is going to show if they really get it now.

Sure, but it feels too little, too late. By the time the xbox one is where it needs to be, the generation will be nearly over.

edit. Before this gen started, I believed last gen was going to be the starting point, rather than playing catch up to parity.

do think that Xbox may be laying a road-map to lunch a cloud base gaming
service (IE EA access) for some older games on other platforms.

just split balling

Well I'm not.

He's a sleazy, corporate suit disguised as "one of us".

He's a failed attempt at Xbox changing their image and the sales reflect that.

Well, he said he believes. Don't mean it always happens the way everyone would like.

I will never understand the unhealthy obsession that some of you have with this man.

Right? So much hatred, it's weird. Or maybe you meant the positivity? J/K I know you meant the positivity :D

Anyway, this thread was only ever going to go one way so with that being done I vote that we get tacos.

What are you 12? He's an adult with a job. They're not all his calls to make as Microsoft is a huge corporation with billions at stake. He can influence however and that is why folks like him, because they think he does more influencing than the previous guy in the role.

It blows my mind how so many people in the gaming niche believe Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft etc. etc. are only in existence for the sole purpose of pleasing gamers and being their bff. The end of goal of businesses is to make money. If being consumer friendly is what makes them money that's what they do, if not being friendly to consumers is what will make them money that is what they will do.

There's ample evidence that's he's improved Xbox division immensely since he took over, guy is what Xbox needed. Feel good with the console in his hands.

Opening up XBL, incremental hardware, saying all the right things.

Nah. The whole one OS has been in the making for years. This has been a plan for while and it benefits the game sector as well.

I had a dream that Phil was my dad. One day I came home with a bad report card and I could see a hint disappointment on his face. He didn't scold me. He didn't let me see his deep swelling anger. He knew the subtle change in his countenance was enough. I just wanted.. I needed him to be proud. So I worked hard, I applied myself and I went from a C student to a B. As I walked home clutching my new report card to my chest I imagined the look on his face as he saw my achievement. I dreamt that he would hug me and say, "well done son, I always knew you would do it". I walked into my house and with nervous excitement approached fathers door. What would he say I thought? I almost walked right in out of excitement but remembered that dads office was off limits without permission. I knocked softly 3 times as to not annoy him too much with my interruption. Dad in his normal kind but serious tone said, "You may come in." I had very rarely been allowed access to the office so I always took a moment To marvel at the ever expanding library father had accumulated. The office had no windows and was lit exclusively by candles which was slightly unnerving in a room of wood floors filled with books. Even though he had not looked up to see who approached and even though I had not said a word he knew who entered. He said, "come in son. I assume you have a pressing matter I must attend to?" I saw him seated at a desk of mahogany with little care to even look at me. I sat in front of the desk and slid my report card in front of him. His gaze moved slightly, only enough that His eyes slightly lit up. I looked a little closer to see that his cheeks were glowing in the candlelight and his dimples looked like deep ominous shadowy caves. He did not say anything but looked up. I had never seen him like this. He had no expression. Not pride, not disappointment. Nothing. I longed that he had communicated something but nothing.. It was a hollow expression devoid of any emotion. He did not say a word. I began crying uncontrollably and fumbled to grab the report card as I stumbled out of the room without any dignity or grace.

The next day father was standing in the doorway to my room as I awoke. He was watching me while I slept. I was surprised to see him there but oddly comforted. He without any sound in his movement approached me and sat at the side of my bed clutching some old worn down pictures. He showed me pictures of a man in uniform who looked just like me. He explained that this was his father. The resemblance was striking. He explained that his father climbed pointe du hoc in the Second World War and if I was going to going to get his approval it was gonna take more than a ruddy B average grade. He said that the Spencer's are a proud family with a distinguished history and my efforts were laughable at best.

I learned an important lesson lesson that day I think.
