I believe in Phil Spencer

Sure, but it feels too little, too late. By the time the xbox one is where it needs to be, the generation will be nearly over.

edit. Before this gen started, I believed last gen was going to be the starting point, rather than playing catch up to parity.

Whih is probably they want outof the normal console cycle. Sony has a huge lead in market share, and unless they mess up PS5, that will only continue.

They're trying to capitalize on the PC market for some extra staying power, and stop cycles in order to not having to start a gen from scratch, where a competition with Sony seems unappealing.

It seems that he did a lot to unfuck the Xbox One, but I imagine he had a hand in fucking it up in the first place. He certainly defended it hard enough back when it was still going to be a DRM nightmare:

I asked if those that have absolutely no access to internet are completely out of luck. It seems they are.

[Phil] Spencer explained: "I mean the analogy, and I don't know if it's a great analogy… let's say I live in an area that doesn't have cell service. I wouldn't go buy a cell phone. Now, I might roam in different areas where my cellphone becomes active."

He continued: "The 360 ecosystem is a great ecosystem for somebody that's in a purely disconnected state for long periods of time. We have built a natively connected device with Xbox One and we think the experiences are moving in that direction."

Well enjoy your enthusiasm OP.

Realistically he's simply stabilised (as best as possible) a sinking ship such that it will remain afloat long enough to decide what to do next. He's made a mix of good and bad plays and he's dropped the axe on a bunch of folks as part f the stabilisation.

Conclusion: solid business response but hardly a gaming saviour.

But hey you're enthused so fair enough.

this. that said you have to give credit where it is due. the xbox brand has changed for the better under him.

I dunno, pretty obvious to anyone what Microsoft had to do, if it wasn't Spencer, someone else would have done the same. I think what Xbox have been doing recently like BC, new stuff coming out, future games and studio management will show better how Spencer is doing but a lot of that takes time to show. They still have that silly indie parity clause for example which doesn't look good for Spencer.

He is doing a great job at improving Xbox so yeah I am happy. He still gets a lot of hate for being in the limelight, but that's good for me because I do not see that as much from the others.

Reggie has been absent for a lot recently and Sony has never really had someone that present for their Playstation. Either that or they suck at anything else than console launches.

I'm sure Phil could promise and deliver amazing stuff and people will still hat eon him and call him out for nonsense they really do not understand. Like they blame him for being an MS employee during the initial X1 announcement problems, like he was at fault.

Well that's all wrong because prior execs said Phil was a rare breed. Cometh the hour cometh the man - Peter Moore.
That's more than anyone on gaming boards can claim

They're called haters. There's alot of good he's done for the brand, trimming Lionhead would reflect badly if they were creating decent games or at least we're up to something that contributed significantly to the business but flop after flop I don't feel it's closing will be remembered apart from those who clutch at straws and are critical of Xbox. It's sad, but if this means more money for Crackdown 3, Forza Horizon or Sea of Thieves then it's an acceptable move.

Phil Spencer is very-well paid executive at Microsoft that does Public Relations as part of his job description.

He's not your friend, and unless you're on the board of directors of large technology company, he's not your peer, either.

I suspect "I believe in Phil Spencer" gets more than its share of ironic usage around here, but it still makes me cringe when I read it.

And I still believe!

Sorry, he's great.

I'm not entirely convinced by the guy, but good for you.

I would say if you compare what they were trying to do under the other guy and what has happened since Phil took over, you would have to at least acknowledge that things have gotten substantially better on the platform. Yes, there is still a ton of work to do, but you have to be ignorant not to see that things have gone from being really bad to pretty good now.

I think this E3 and Gamescom will be.
Maybe. Last year was "Games games games" and they did a decent job of delivering for their core fans.

What I'm keeping my eye on is how they behave during "off season" and how this Xbox/PC rollout is going to look. Microsoft actually does a pretty decent job at keeping the promises that they make at E3. Not flawless (those Kinect-focused E3's and Xboz One's first E3 were awful) but pretty decent.

Lionhead should have made a good game in the past decade. This ain't no charity.
They might had if they weren't force feed Kinect development and fable franchise milking, which like rare had to come from above. I doubt their first choice was Kinect demo a shitty Kinect fable spin off and a shit arcade coop game.
