I don’t think any game coming out within the next year will be visually better than Horizon Forbidden West

So does the movie. Neither are video games though
Matrix Demo is technically a game though, its more like a sample game to showcase UE5 visuals more likely. A movie is something you can't control or interact a character with where you have 0 decision making.

No the matrix demo is a semi-interactive set piece, some pre-rendered cutscenes, and the last part is a hollow cityscape you can walk around in and drive a car in and thats about it. Theres no actual gameplay systems integrated into it besides that.

Its like moving concept art rather than a real video game

yep though a 100%, ppl using photo mode and cutscenes which are 100% pre rendered, not ingame mode and saying HFW looks photo realistic? Why don't you screenshot a random shot ingame like here and see if it looks photorealistic

Its a short-mini driving simulator more focused on visual showcase instead of driving itself.

Lol what are you on about?

This is MY in game screenshot note the bottom left corner….. smh stop it lol.

Hellblade

Witcher remake

GTA6

Diablo IV
Hellblade 1 definitely not. Two could if it looks as good as the fake stuff they showed.

Witcher remake no, currently playing it 4k maxed out ultra + everything on PC. If I'm honest I like the witchers art style more but the character models kind of fail the rest of the presentation.

Don't know we'll see.

It's going to need a ton of polish to beat it. Again I like the Diablo color pallet and art style much more. It just doesn't look better.

The top two were gameplay lol, nice tryhard attempt though

For you info all hfw cutscene and photo mode are real time , go see digital foundry review, and I think you definitely don't know the difference between real time and pre rendered cutscenes.

It's like the demoscenes of yore. Designed to show visual art and tech. They usually look better than real games but they are limited in scope.

I think it's actually quite difficult to say what is the best looking game.

I mean, someone watch a top tier pc running Uncharted 4, a game that was released over 6 years ago and was designed to run on PS4, and tell me that isn't a stunning looking game.

Is it better than Horizon Forbidden West?

Well, maybe not, maybe it is...

What about Red Dead 2?

Callisto Project?

Does the relatively linear nature of God of War Ragnarok detract from its otherwise stunning visuals?

If it were open world would it be more impressive?

Ultimately, especially with pc gaming, it's impossible to say what is the best looking game - after all, you might be running RDR2 at max settings, 4k, on your 4090 rig and I can play the same game on a significantly weaker system and not be as impressed.

Perhaps, console games are a more level playing field as we all have the exact same hardware.

Using that logic, for me, the best looking console game I've ever played is the ps5 version of Ragnarok, followed by TLOU 2, and then something like Ghost of Tsushima or GT7 on ps5.

Some people really can't comprehend the lowly PS5 can crank out the best visuals in the business and at 60fps.

Ain't just about horsepower is it lads
The PS5 is a fairly potent console compared to the shit box that was PS4. There are no massive apparent bottlenecks with PS5. Considering the magic Sony devs were able to pull from the useless PS4 hardware, this isn't surprising the least.

The fact that it's interactive at all makes it a video game by definition. Your mental gymnastics won't change it.

IDK, I'm merely impressed by HFW shots posted, but they don't look attractive to me, that'´s not something that makes me want to play a game... On the other hand, seeing Elden Ring or Xenoblade every time on screenshots or gameplay on YouTube makes me want to play them as soon as I get a chance, and I'm talking about how they LOOK... It happens to me very frequently with "impressive looking games" these days that they don't look "good enough" to me unless there's some art direction I really like, I think I'm suffering a lot from "uncanny valley" seeing at many of the games since 8th gen started, they look technically impressive but just not attractive to me unless they don't aim for pure realism

Horizon gets a lot of shit for being cross-gen but out of all the announced games, even next gen titles I honestly don't see a lot of games being able to match the level of fidelity and animations it has anytime soon. Maybe im wrong, and I hope I am but theres no studio I feel like is on the level right now, and UE5 is far from having its first big game out.

Ah yes, the disingenuous 1080 low quality screenshot.

The game is already in the hands of people and has been for a long time now. You're fooling nobody.

You call this a video game?

Idk what that is but this is clearly not the same as that Matrix demo, lol. The original argument was whether the Matrix demo was a game or a non-interactive collection of cinematics, and it's clearly the former. What you're showing looks like some sandbox app for bullshitting around with the physics engine.

That you?

By your "fact", what I posted is the definition of a video game according to you.

For game to be a game you also need some kind of an objective, even if it's something so trivial as getting to the other side of the screen to grab a princess or scoring points. If you're just clicking on stuff to make things happen without any point to it all then it might as well be an excel spreadsheet. That's why sandbox editors are called "editors" - because they're just apps. So by that definition Matrix demo is a game because the goal of it is to survive the car chase and shoot the attacking agents, and then explore the city to find hidden landmarks. Been a while since I played it so I can't remember if there was anything else but that's at least 2 objectives for you. You didn't just sit there watching it, and it didn't offer you any tools or a working environment to create anything like a sandbox app would.

I've been playing again recently, the game has some of the most impressive GI I've seen in an open world game with dynamic time of day outside of RT GI solutions. Granted, there are some rare instances where it might look weird, but for the most part they've done an excellent job.

Could be, but graphics alone don't make great games. Horizon FW is good ok game but it had many flaws, GOWR, ER and Xeno 3 to name just those are much better imo games and it's not even close.

I didn't even like Horizon:FW that much but will admit it's not going to be passed graphically for some time. Not even GOW:R could hold a candle to it.

I disagree, especially with Xenoblde Chronicles 3, thought it was repetitive as hell. I honestly dont even know how people think those battles are fun when everything is so automated. The story was interesting but you also have to have a penchant for weeby melodrama

The tougher battles are just going through the same chain animation prompts over and over again. Gets incredibly boring.
