True, that was so odd. His killing of the Tuskens in Ep2 was way more believable.

Nah it's terrible. Annoying kid, bad slapstick in Jar-Jar and god the acting is awful. I dislike Darth Maul (not his design) too as I like my antagonists to have legitimate personalities (or frankly most of the characters; Plinkett touched on that when he asked people to describe the characters) Attack of the Clones isn't much better.

I don't enjoy TPM on the level you do but I'd certainly call myself a TPM apologist. I can't defend the weird acting and the wAaAAaAcky and/or racist Jar Jar nonsense but there's just so much in the movie I love the look of. The Naboo Starfighter is super sleek, Sebulba and all the podracers look awesome (and spawned a fantastic video game), I'm into Amidala's regal costumes and hairstyles... and I especially love the Gungans and their underwater city! Who doesn't love an underwater city?
(Don't forget: Still not defending Jar Jar's antics, but daaaaang I love the look of the Gungans)

But real talk tho: C-3PO's fucking pun parade in AOTC is worse than any dumbass thing Jar Jar does. Yes, even stepping in shit, because at least he only does it once.

I had to show my middle school shop teacher how to load trailers on the school network that day. We started it at the beginning of the class and by the end it was only 85% done. But we watched the portion of how much had loaded every 15 minutes.

I mean I absolutely despise his character in the other two Prequel movies... but he was a cool kid in Phantom.

it created the biggest sin of all three prequels, it's fucking boring, to this day it remains the only movie I've literally fallen asleep on.

AoTC's cringe kept my ass awake.

OK. So, um, now to say something nice about the prequels.

TITLES

The Phantom Menace is a pretty evocative title even if it doesn't feel especially "Star Warsy".

Attack of the Clones is an underrated title. Sounds like a random episode of a sci-fi serial and isn't really much worse than "Empire Strikes Back" when you think about it.

Revenge of the Sith has nice symmetry with Return of the Jedi and has built in geek cred for referencing that film's abandoned title.

I loved the Phantom Menace. I think it's a pretty solid film. Naboo is a beautiful planet and we actually got to see Jedi in action doing what they're supposed to be doing (besides what they do in all the rest of the films).

Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Natalie Portman, Ian McDiarmad... the acting is pretty solid. And the dialogue is a lot better than the Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith in my opinion.

I think I could salvage twenty minutes from it that I'd be willing to rewatch. There isn't a single minute from AotC I would endure again.

Even before the Plinkett Reviews this fight was only impressive the first time I saw it. Rewatches made me see it for just choreographed dance numbers with actors aiming for their marks rather than each other. Then I learned more about Bob Anderson and his work on Empire and Jedi and hated the Prequel fights even more.

This will always be the most pointless film out of the entire trilogy, hell the second film is useless too. When Obiwan was talking about Anakin in EPIVV he was talking during about the clone wars, Anakin's life is pointless AF until the CW starts. No one needed to see Anakin as a fucking child of as an angsty teenager man. -_-

Speaking of rewatching the prequels, I rewatched the PT some time ago, but via the fan-made Anti-Cheese Edits. I was absolutely surprised how much I enjoyed AOTC in that version, with the biggest change being cutting a lot of the romance scenes. Easily the biggest difference between the theatrical cut and the edit.
I mean, I still liked Ep. 3 the most out of the three, but I wouldn't ever guess it would be that better.

Many people like to nitpick minor things like "character development" or "politics", but things like podracing and the vistas offer something new to the Star Wars franchise and deepen my appreciation for all the other movies by providing an expanded mythos to the universe.

Not only does it make every Star Wars movie better, but the movie was able to pull off darker themes like slavery, hostage situations, and poverty-- all incorporated seamlessly into a Star Wars movie.

Actually, you know what, I'd say TPM is better than Empire.

"Nitpick" You mean voice criticism on genuinely poor aspects of the movie? Pulled off? There was nothing dark about the way slavery or poverty was portrayed; at all lol. And oh man at that last sentence lol

Empire not having Jar-Jar in it automatically makes it a better movie.

I'm with you OP, I've never understood the hate. Attack of the Clones, I fully understand the hate, it's absolutely awful. But TPM is good besides a few things which don't bother me that much.
