Bought a R.A.T.7 mouse. Came in a little while ago. Pretty rad mouse. Now if only my PC worked so I could play stuff!

I was looking at the box for that mouse at Best Buy this weekend. It looks really cool, but I'm happy with my old Logitech G5.

Does it matter if I have RAM from two different companies in my mobo? Thinking of adding 8GB but can't find any good deals from Corsair

Nah, you should be okay. As long as they are the same speeds.

So then

This Cruicial Ram will work with this OCZ RAM but won't work with this G Skill Ram
The Crucial uses 1.5V. Thus, G Skill one matches while OCZ does not with 1.65V. Also, not sure what the timing is for Crucial other than CAS 9. Those things uses 4 numbers, example 9-9-9-24. I would suggest you just drop the Crucial 4GB and just use the 8GB you are planning to buy. That's plenty.

Is having a Readyboost device useful? I had an extra 2GB thumb drive I got with Force Unleashed 2 CE and it's approved and configured as solely for Readyboost. I just don't want to have that and see worse performance. I figured I'd try id as I never tried it out before.

I have 8GB or RAM, will this really be helping or is it just a waste?

What I ordered:

No motherboard, is there anything that is compatible with the I7-2600K chip I can buy until the Sandy Bridge P8P67 motherboards are back in stock?

Also the 3d junk came with the LG drive for free.

It would probably do nothing. It would only be useful if you have barely enough ram for Windows and Windows was using your HDD for caching.

Drop the OCZ SSD for another SandForce controller drive. OCZ switched over to 25nm, from 34nm, chips and it severely affects write speeds.

So I'm thinking of upgrading my computer in preparation for Crysis 2 and the rest of the games coming out soon, I have about 650$ available to spend.

Currently running

Core i5 750 @ stock 2.67

I kind of want to just get an after market cooler and overclock this as I don't see any worth in upgrading it instead of overclocking.

HIS Radeon 4890

Not exactly sure what graphics card to get to replace this, although this guide says I should be looking into a 6850 crossfire setup, I'd like to avoid this and just keep it single card if possible. So thinking of a GTX 570 instead, however I'm kind of behind on GPU's since I built my last rig so I'm not exactly sure what the best bang for buck is.

Edit: I'm also reading you can get 6970 levels of performance with a 6950 if you flash the Bios?

Gonna pick up some more RAM as well to round it all out, any suggestions on the CPU / GPU options?

my cpu fan is running at max speed all the time how can i fix this?
3 or 4 pin? You need 4 pin to have MB control the fan speed. Otherwise, you need to get a 3rd party dial accessory to manually control the speed.

I have question about Crossfire y'all. I have a PSU rated at 750 watts and a mother board that has a 16X pci-e lane and 4X lane. It states everywhere that it is Crossfire ready. Would the massive difference in lane speeds be a concern for CF? Is 750 watts enough to power two 6870's in CF without pushing the PSU too hard?

What is the sweet spot right now for graphics cards?

I'm aiming at about $250 but I could go a little higher for the right card.

AMD 6950 2GB ~$275. Then, unlock the shaders making it a 6970.

Go for the GTX 560Ti. It will last longer than a GTX 460.

yup. difference is supposedly not that big though.

fixed it, just swapped the cpu fan to the fan controller and plugged a case fan instead

Hey guys, I am currently looking for a 24 pin power cable extender, since mine barely reaches in my new case. Just looking for the best priced one around 6 inches long or so. Any suggestions?
I love these.
Thanks to MisterNoisy kindly gifting one of these to me, I can second the NZXT recommendation.

ModRight also makes nicely sleeved extension cables. You can find them at Micro Center, FrozenCPU and elsewhere.

If you'd rather not spend that much and don't care about the benefits of braided cables, you can pick up a non-sleeved extension like these:

Are you sure your board doesn't default to x8 + x8 when running dual cards? Two GPUs at x8 each is fine, but x4 is a noticeable difference. Also, that x4 would be the speed, correct? A physical x4 lane would severely hamper your GPU options.

A solid 750w PSU will easily run two 6870s. You could probably get by even with a crap model.

Saw some talk about MLAA earlier, anyone else experiencing that when you have it enabled, it'll at random times slow the game down completely and then it goes back up to full speed - Like it lags behind on the post-processing of the MLAA and needs to catch up?

Experienced it in GTA IV / EFLC and now the Shogun demo ... GTA IV looks amazing with it but the random drops can be quite annoying - Any setting or reason perhaps why it does it?

5970 btw.

This is the board I have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=9#scrollFullInfo
It says it has 2 16x 2.0 PCI-e ports, but then goes on to say 1 @ 16x and 1 @ 4x.

To PC Monitor/Display Fetishists: LED or LCD? Also name some quality 22 or 23" monitors currently on the market that are well worth the asking price. [Budget 200~300] Aaaand go!

mclaren: I'm signed up for the newsletter, but I get the "although you've entered a valid promo code" junk. Any special trick?

So I'm thinking about possibly getting Sli 560's or Xfire 6950's, but I have a question. I use wireless internet and have a wireless network card in a slot that would be covered by the bulkiness of another GPU. Here's an image to demonstrate:

If I put the second GPU in there I would have no place to put the network card that I have right now... are there any network cards that fit in the other available slots?

You could get one of those USB wireless Dongles. Just plugs into a USB slot and you have your wireless connection with simple setup

If you buy it before the 28th. HIS has a 30 dollar off rebate on their 2GB 6950 from Amazon, newegg. 279 down to 249.

Is there any reason to get a USB wireless thingy instead of that, performance wise?

Not really. That Asus card is ace. No special drivers needed, unlike other cards from manufactuers like D-Link, Linksys, and Netgear. That alone makes it awesome.

Not performance-wise, no. I really really dislike USB stuff sticking out of my case as well. Not sure if that sort of thing bugs you.

Yeah I'm not a fan of USB things sticking out if they don't need to, the card it is. And regarding the discounted 6950 that was mentioned up above (I'm assuming this is it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4161355&cm_re=HIS_6950-_-14-161-355-_-Product)

I might jump on that... but I'm seriously torn on whether I should get that or a 560 ti. PhysX would be a cool option to be able to toy around with. And should I decide to go dual GPU I hear that SLI is less buggy than Xfire? Do you also still need nVidia to use 3D or does AMD have a 3D option now too?

Amazon has the card for 10 dollars cheaper but that is the card. The card does support 3D now with HD3D. Support launched with the 6900 series. Physx is nice and I have used an Nvidia card for a long time now but jumped to the 6950 since it can unlock to 6970 and Physx is still so rare
