Have any of you gone through the OCZ Vertex 2 RMA process for the 25/34nm chip problem? I'm wondering how long it took you to get your drive back once OCZ received it?

They got my drive on Friday. I'm not expecting an update for a few days but I'd like to get an idea on how long this might take.

Microsoft sucks.

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/bott/what-microsoft-wont-tell-you-about-windows-7-licensing/1514?pg=2

The article is well worth the read.

Although it is possible for an individual to buy a System Builder copy of Windows 7 and install it on a new PC, that scenario is specifically prohibited by the license agreement, which requires that the software be installed using the OPK and then resold to a non-related third party. (As I noted in a September 2008 post, Microsoft once allowed “hobbyists” to use OEM System Builder software to build their own PCs, but the company switched to a hard-line stance on this issue sometime after Vista shipped in early 2007.)

Lord knows we've all been doing precisely this, for a very very long time, which means all our licences are invalid anyway.

My replacement SSD (Samsung 470) just died the same way as before but I was able to see the BSOD message as it went down...

Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error

I'm starting to wonder if these reliability issues are caused by my first-gen P67 motherboard. My SSD is connected to a SATA 3.0 port (which shouldn't be affected by the recall issue) but it seems really odd that I'd have two disc rear errors in just two months. And I know this probably has nothing to do with my problem, but whenever I get this computer up and running again, I'm going to leave the paging file on the SSD just for peace of mind.

Thoughts?

I'm not too sure what you're asking. My computer is showing 1024KB free under the disk volumes so it's clearly not linked to free space on the disk, I'm not sure what it does mean.

Yes. Crysis 2 water flashes. Some games have had flashing HUD elements. Shogun 2 simply breaks when hardware shadows are enabled with SLI. Sometimes microstuttering is noticeable, making 40-50fps feel like 30fps.

SLI will let you get performance that is otherwise unattainable with a single card, but if you never want to deal with these kinds of issues, you're better of with a single GPU like the GTX 580.

If I had to redo it, I would probably go with a single triple slot Asus GTX 580. Less performance, but half the power requirement, less noise, less space, no dealing with SLI issues. Most games don't even need the power at 1080p.

Yeah, those SLI issues are game breaking for me. Would you have gotten something like this:

I'm not a big HDD and OS person, but I will tell you to run Memtest, a program like Spinrite, and maybe fix your MBR (You should check if fixing your MBR is ok to do)?

Also since someone asked:

Cable management is for suckers :lol

Given what we know, I'd think about swapping the P67 board ASAP, or if it has a MARVELL controller, just use that. Do you have another SATA capable computer you can toss the SSD into? Something tells me it's not the SSD..

Sadly, no.

I was hoping to wait for Z68 before getting a replacement MB but it looks like I'll have to pull the trigger now if I want my computer back. :(

I'm having a weird problem with my build guys.

AMD 1090T BE Processor
ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 Motherboard
Radeon HD 5570 Low-Profile Ready GPU
6GB DDR3 1333Mhz
Antec TP-750 PSU

Last night, I was trying to overclock my 1090T BE. I don't have the Turbo key on the Mobo flipped either (tried it, no difference). I tried using AMD OverDrive, ASUS TurboV Evo, and the ASUS OC Utility (Which is just a button in the BIOS that attempts to auto-overclock). For each one, the computer would shut down to restart, and then the computer would boot up without any video. Sometimes it wouldn't boot into windows, and I would have to hard restart the computer, which would then bring up video, display the post screen, and say that overclocking has FAILED, and to either continue or load default values in the BIOS. Other times, I would have my headphones on and I could hear the computer boot into windows, but I would never get video. I have to reset the CMOS to get it back, and then re-enter everything in the BIOS.

Why is it that my high-end processor designed for overclocking not able to overclock right? What's causing this problem?

For the record, I haven't tried to manually overclock through the BIOS, because I really don't want to mess with that (I'm afraid I'll fuck something up).
You need to manually overclock. Those utilities are notorious for being almost useless.

*edit*

Newegg deals for the day. Spinpoint F3 1TB for $55. Yummy.

Yeah, they're really weird. Last LAN I went to there were a few people there with them. They have the HDDs suspended by cables rather than put in a cage.

Besides being a $200 antec, which immediately gives me pause, it looks like it was built to serve as a dust trap.

Fuuuuuu... I just paid $65 like three days ago. Oh well, this is just how sales work. But, thanks for that link. it introduced me to this bazaaro case. It looks like something someone would find on a construction site.

Contact them for a price match. Can't hurt. Especially since you are within your return window...

Damn. I have no idea what I am doing though...
Why would those programs be cutting out my video until a CMOS reset, though?

The RAM seems to be fine and attempts to repair/rebuild the MBR haven't been successful with either SSD. And according to Microsoft Answers this could be an issue with the paging file, which I moved off of the SSD and onto the HDD like many people seem to do.

Microsoft Answers said:
The error code KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR STOP: 0x0000007A states that the requested page of kernel data from the paging file could not be read into memory. It appears that there are some issues with the hard disk.

I've checked on this. Their FAQ says to fuck off.

Yes. Officially. But like I said - it can't hurt. Especially if you place an order at the new sale price. You can then return the ones you receive at the old price. You have plenty of options.

Depends, they charge a restocking fee sometimes, so by then the discount isn't really worth it.

Has Microcenter started issuing replacement P67 motherboards yet?
I got an email saying they should have the revised boards in stock, though not widely available till early April... and to contact your local store for details on the replacement process. So I'd give 'em a call and see if they have your model of board in stock.

That looks sweet.

I have gone through much hassle while building my computer :
1) first, I wasn't able to boot from the DVD reader and my HDD was said to be missing.
2) the Win 7 x64 iso I burnt on a DVD wasn't booting because I didn't write an ISO file (took me days to figure out the problem)
3) my monitor wasn't able to display in any rez superior to 1600 x 1200

All of them are now solved, which gives me hope for my next issue :

My monitor sudenly stopped working and displayed the message (D-SUB POWER MANAGMENT) and turned black right after. Now, everytime I try to hook it up a PC, it says the same. When it is on, and not linked to anything, it acts normally.

What may be the problem GAF ? I sincerely hope it's the last piece of shit I go through, really.

I've got my 955BE to 3.6ghz. Everything after that gets a lottt more unstable. Going to have to do some more to try and get it up to maybe 3.8ghz.

Not bad for my first overclock so far though - nothing has gone up in flames!

I got my 6950 unlocked to 6970 speeds fairly easily, as well.

Did you try going to 5 last night?
Heh, nope. Watched a movie instead (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo). I might just wait and do it when I actually need the performance. 4.6GHz has not bottlenecked me yet (though I have still to try PCSX2 and Dolphin).

Get rid of that LED light crap.

Nevar!! I like to see the inside of my case! And they're cold cathode tubes not some pos leds.

Next build is going to be liquid cooled with UV lighting.

Are anyone else eying out the Thermaltake Level 10 GT?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQYtIim3l7w&feature=fvwrel

It does not look as sleek as the Level 10, but then again, it's not at that crazy price either. I also know that the HAF is a better bargain, but I like the asthetics of this one. I currently have a Lanboy Air, and I sort of regret getting that. I thought it looked cool and different, but as people suspected it does indeed get filled up with dust, and also it's fan makes it very loud.

It goes without saying that it was a LAN machine, but I was surprised about the plastic parts. I'm not convinced the hammock bungie jump hard drives either. It looks cool I guess, and I actually managed to fit it inside my Ikea table, but it's simply just not what's best for my component.

Finding a case with 8 expansion slots have been difficult. Choices are more scare. I need to have my 470's in first and third PCI-E slot, because they become to warm when right next to each other. Giant meh!

Anyone know of a good HTPC front end (like XBMC, Media Portal, Boxee, etc.) that would work well with a large library of Steam games?

I know Steam is supposed to be doing their big screen update thing at some point and that will probably bring in a new wave of plugins in various states of functionality, but if I was looking to turn my desktop into an HTPC within the next week or so, playing a variety of media but also primarily games off of a Steam account how would I go about that?
