Did you check the usual things? Driver installed, device shows up in device manager, onboard audio not disabled in bios.

no!! let him keep the light, if he likes he likes it. but scogoth, if you wanted lights you should have done it with fans instead. (a light color is preferred)

I like the tube lighting and not going to give up 4 1600rpm scythe fans for coloured ones.

Suggestions? Changes? I'm worried about the Hyper 212 clearing those ram chips.

Hyper 212 will clear no problem, the fan may need to be moved up slightly but shouldnt be a problem.

Are you sure you want the deluxe board? Theres a chart of the differences posted a few times in the past couple pages showing the differences.

Looks pretty nice but I like the uniformity or a tube light over LEDs. I like how they have proper sleeving rather then crappy plastic like most LED lighting strips.

That's very, very similar to what I am doing. They all told me to go with the Pro instead of the Deluxe mobo.

Repost for like the 30th time.

Deluxe offers 16 phase power for high stability at extreme overclocks, not necessary for new system builders. Offers 2 LAN Ports.

EVO offers 2 LAN Ports

Pro offers everything most people need (SLI, Crossfire, good overclock ability, bluetooth built in, etc)

One of my biggest issues with a mobo nowadays is that I want a coax out for my mixamp, and don't want to get a dedicated sound card because it's just not in the budget. So I have slim pickins.

Just buy an Asus Xonar DG for ~$30. Most motherboard sound won't give you the Dolby 5.1 you want for your MixAmp - just 2 channel.

The deluxe, evo and pro all have coax and optical out.

Ohay look at that. Time to get new glasses -_-

Thanks! Now I have to wait for a regular Pro to get stocked, Newegg only offers the micro option.

The $30 option sadly doesn't offer coax. My setup's so specific, I have to run Coax to the mixamp.

I've been seeing the audiophiles talk about onboard vs the DG on this thread and I understand sound quality will be much better with a dedicated card but why would the onboard audio not output 5.1 either through the coax, toslink or analog 5.1 connectors?

The 3DS has given me a taste of 3D gaming...I'm now almost tempted to get a 3D monitor...

Why...

Saw the 3ds today, the screen blew me away. I have a 3d screen on my PC. Don't get it.

Ghosting and glasses ruin the whole experience for games.

That looks sweet.

I have gone through much hassle while building my computer :
1) first, I wasn't able to boot from the DVD reader and my HDD was said to be missing.
2) the Win 7 x64 iso I burnt on a DVD wasn't booting because I didn't write an ISO file (took me days to figure out the problem)
3) my monitor wasn't able to display in any rez superior to 1600 x 1200

All of them are now solved, which gives me hope for my next issue :

My monitor sudenly stopped working and displayed the message (D-SUB POWER MANAGMENT) and turned black right after. Now, everytime I try to hook it up a PC, it says the same. When it is on, and not linked to anything, it acts normally.

What may be the problem GAF ? I sincerely hope it's the last piece of shit I go through, really.

(sorry to insist with it)

Aaaand, my monitor crapped on me again, this time right when I was watching a Youtube video @ 1080p and switched to full screen.

No reason why this "Sub-D" message appears ?

The MixAmp gets 5.1 from the game consoles - Xbox 360, PS3 - but most mobo audio doesn't output 5.1 or much beyond the standard 2 or 2.1. Check with the motherboard you're buying, but the DG is a worthy purchase if you want that surround sound for games. Then you don't even need your MixAmp anymore (except for consoles).

I have an Acer GD235hz which is 3D. I don't use it in 3D, however. It's one of the best 2D gaming monitors due to the 120hz and the performance. It's amazing.

Sounds like a power saving mode. Why are you connected through VGA anyway and not DVI?

I'm assuming if the onboard audio has 5.1 analog out it can do 5.1 audio.

And yes 120hz gaming is pretty sick, I feel like I'm cheating in BC2 at 120fps.

But for 3D mode I'm very disappointed, only thing that makes the game feel more fun is L4D2. SC2 is really hard to play in 3D. BC2 has bad ghosting and some things don't render at the right depth. Metro 2033 just crushes my comp in 3D. People think SLI is a compatibility headache? Try 3D gaming.

What would be the purpose for "extreme overclocking?" I'm just going to be gaming and doing some overclocking just to get some stability in my games.

It's LG. Their forums didn't come out with any answer.

Well, I only got a VGA cable with it so...

Would it mean that I would avoid such problem with a DVI cable ? Now that I think about it, I plugged the screen to my laptop and the same problem persisted.

edit : wait, my former monitor resolution problems could have been an issue linked to the use of a VGA connection ?

Only reason I asked, some manufacturers are notorious for using under powered caps, but I haven't read anything crazy about LG.

First thing I would do is try another cord, run out and buy one, if it doesn't solve it just return it.

Bought more ram for my PC, thus bringing the total to 8GB. Made one hell of a difference.

OH SHIT, is that the 17.5inch Steelseries QCK+ mousepad I see there?

I went to NCIX the other day when they were on sale for $9 and just bought a bunch of them for when they ones I currently have for all my PCs become shitty.

They are soooo awesome.

So I just looked up one on Newegg-

RECERTIFIED

What? How do you re-certify a rubber mouse pad.

First thing I did when I built my PC.

Oh thanks, I just tried with a DVI cable lent by the roommate but no change whatsoever. I think I'll just reboot my computer in half an hour. A direct download is running and I don't want to ruin it.

Thanks, I'll let GAF know if the problem persists after the reboot.

edit : the problem persists. What the fuck seriously. I guess I have no choice but send it back to where it belongs to.

So if I'm understanding correctly from this page, you want a P67 board if you want to overclocking? I've never overclocked before and wasn't planning on doing it immediately upon getting my PC but it's something I wanted to be prepared to do one day. However, I also wanted an HDMI port on my mobo and for whatever reason they don't exist on any P67 boards, only on H67. Is there any particular reason for this?

My understanding is that the H67 Chipset supports the iGPU function, whereas the integrated graphic is disabled on a P67 Chipset Motherboard. Let the pros explain, I'm just a dumb dumb.

Actually that's correct if you google it real quick, or if you look at pics of H67 mobos. All have video connectors whereas P67s do not.

H67 you can't overclock, but it has integrated graphics. (meant for workstations, or non-power users who don't plan on using graphics intensive applications).

P67 you can overclock, but you need to buy a standalone graphics card. (meant for gamers, 3d modelers, musicians, and people who otherwise need the most out of their system).

Thanks for the clarification. That's what I assumed. What I was curious about though was why HDMI ports seem to be all but standard on H67 boards and completely non-existent on P67 boards?

Because there's no video component on the P67...you'll get an HDMI port with your standalone graphics card.

Here's a crazy plan: what if I just install W7 again over the top of W7 using the upgrade option?

Would that allow me to keep all of my previously installed programs?

3D is a gimmick unless the game was built up for it or heavily patched.
Valve games and WoW I think are just about the only good examples last I checked.

so my 6950 arrived, long story short, as soon as the card is recognized by windows and installs the generic drivers or as soon the official drivers are installed I get BSOD.
I tried 11.2, 11.3 and release candidate 11.4 same results.
Is the card faulty? how come I don't get the BSOD when no drivers are installed?

Can you see if you can find out what the BSOD error is? Is everything else default on the OS install or is this an upgrade on a previous system?

I already swapped back the old card (5770) (since I only have 1 computer at home)
basically it's just a video card upgrade.
windows 7 64 bits, q6600 @ 3.2. 4gb ram and the old card is a 5770.

can it be that my PSU is not powerful enough?
I had to plug an extra power cable from the PSU to the videocard for the second pin the 6950 uses.

it just puzzles me that I get BSOD only when a driver is installed (even the generic windows one)
