It's outclassed by the Vertex 3 in nearly every way. The only time the m4 competes is in a test like the one above that uses purely incompressible data. The m4 garbage collection is also not very good according to the review. Unless it's much cheaper than the Vertex 3, I wouldn't go for it.

Sorry, I can see I didn't mentioned on my post. Im going with the Vertex 3! I was waiting for the m4 reviews until I get an SSD just in case and this review confirms my decision.

The pic I used was just because It was the first one I found in the article, should have gone with a pic of the SSD instead. Im changing it :D

What is really strange now is that I can't access the BIOS and that I am still being said at every boot that my HDD is missing. But, after two seconds, Windows is launched properly and without any problem. That's... puzzling.
You probably have your SATA drives connected to the Intel SATA controllers, right? There's probably nothing wrong, on the Asus P67 boards the Marvell SATA controller whines that it doesn't have a hard drive connected(if it doesn't) every time you boot unless you disable it in the bios or whatever they're calling it nowadays.

I experienced something similar. What did allow me to go 720p + was to open the nVidia configuration board and to up the rez there. I had no option to do so on Windows.

I should warn you : my setup (which also includes an LG monitor) has some shitty problems (see post above).

Hmmm. I managed to get it to work doing it in Nvidia control panel, but I had to do other stuff:

1)second 470 was enabled as dedicated physx card:S Disabled it. It allowed the other card to use.

2) It wouldnt show 1080p with 50 FPS, but it will show with 24 FPS. The result? a 1080 piece of footage looks great, but everything becomes laggy as hell.

if the 1080 file is playing it takes 10 seconds to right click to change to full screen:I just taking the mouse across the screen of the HDTV in 1080p feels laggy and weird. it only happens on the HDTV 1080p screen. its completely smooth.

is this because HDTVs have a lower refresh rate than monitors? that would explain why a 1080 film look shot in 24 frames, would look great... but its horror otherwise. I don't think I can just browse. It's not a big deal though as I only connect it to watch footage on.

still it surprises me that it feels so laggy in 1080.

now my other problem is getting the HDTV to ignore its crappy build in speakers and use the soundbar I bought. I connected HDTV with optic cable to the soundbar, but the soundbar does not seem to pick it up while I'm watching HDTV from my PC. Hahhaa.. it's a love/hate thing to get everything to work:p

thanks for your help mate!

Ok PC GAF... /halp

As much as I'd love to just wipe things clean and build something from scratch, not really happening at the moment. I have an inclining that my mother board is currently my bottle neck. It's an MSI P6N SLI Platinum.

Is there a direct upgrade, or rather just a direct swap, of the motherboard that I can do?

CPU = Intel Core 2 Duo e6550

Was able to do some more research and find the answer to my own question. Will need to upgrade CPU and mobo to get the benefits I'm wanting :\

I'll bet what is happening is that the TV has a video processor which is trying to process the video card output.
Is the TV set to display 1:1 the input from the computer?

Precisely ! The Marvel stuff. I didn't know that it was something regular with those boards. Thank you so much for this little piece of info :) I actually had to disable when I came up with this problem the first time. Shambles did even say that he would have returned the HDD. Is its possible to put this info in the OP if it is indeed a widely recognized problem ?

Hey guys looking for some advice. I want to upgrade my system for Battlefield 3, Guild wars 2, Tera online, and games like that. I want to run them with great/the best settings possible.

Here is my system, what do I need to upgrade before then? I can wait, but just looking for ideas now.

Should I upgrade peices or do I need to just start over and rebuild?

Windows 7 64bit
Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P
AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz
4GB ram
ATI Radeon HD 4890
a couple WD caviar blacks
Antec Sonata Elite Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Antec TruePower New TP-650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.3 /

I've also never overclocked this cpu because i'm just not sure how or how far to take it. Can anyone recommend me a guide for overclocking this processer or some tips or a website or anything, thanks.

Little bump. any help?

Difficult to say seeing as none of those games are out yet but I think you would be in good shape if you simply upgrade the 4890 with a 6950 or 6970 (or a 570 if you want to consider Nvidia).

No one knows for sure, the specs haven't been released. If you're upgrading just for those games, wait until they are out so you can buy the latest and greatest at the right prices.

You will most likely need a new mobo/proc/ram/videocard.

So looking at the 'windows experience' index I notice everything in my new build is in the 7s save for my Primary Hard Disk, which is a 5.9.

:/

Not a big deal. Still, other than SSD, what's my best option for faster HDD transfer speeds? Spinpoint?

only systeme recovery options i have a startup repair ( which does not work ) and systeme restore but i dont have that enabled, memory diagnostic ( performed it but could find no problems ) and command prompt.

EDIT: i tried starting in safe mode by keeping F8 pressed but i wont even let me do that.

So my Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus should be arriving today or tomorrow and I will be reapplying thermal paste to mount the new heat sink. Is there a recommended method for applying thermal paste to the Sandy Bridge processors? I have an i5 2500k. Normally I just apply a pea-sized glob in the middle, then slightly wiggle the heat sink around once I attach it. Will this method be fine for the Sandy Bridge processors as well?

A lot of what you will need as a video card depends on the resolution of the monitor you will be playing the games on.
Assuming you will be using a 21-22" computer monitor, you could get by with just a new video card such as a Radeon 6950 1 GB card-here's a 2GB Asus 6950 that has been overclocked for $289.
The CPU and MB you have will probably do OK. It would be around $300 to upgrade the CPU, MB, and RAM . Maybe read about Battlefield and see if it uses the CPU enough to stress yours.

I went into safe mode settings and chose do not reboot after error or something and i could read the bluescreen this time.

Jesus, I have only been able to run Dead Space memories cinematic for about 4 minutes and then...

Again, black screen, computer stays on but no shit will come out, and so on.

The CPU is not a problem anymore. I have deactivated the GPU and will try the CPU stress test to see if the PSU is at the source of the problem or not.

Ok so i tried some other things, one of those is the advanced option of go to last known good configuration because i saw it worked for someone else on this forum and not even that is working.
I thought i could at least sell this board tomorrow ( someone was going to pick it up who dident care about crossfire ) and than buy a new one but it seems i cant even do that =(

Sorry to bother you again, but the Gigabyte P67A-UD7 is out of stock. Is the Gigabyte P67A-UD5 enough for i7 2600k, 2x HD6970, 2x4GB, SSD (no overclock)?

Thanks

Have you contacted the mobo manufacturer about this? Thye may have run into the error before and know of a solution.

Spinpoint probably will not increase that score. SSD or using a RAID are pretty much the only options.

I got a noob question about eSATA. I assume the cables are actual SATA to eSATA connectors to hook up an HDD. My question is regarding the power, do you need something for that too?

The UD7 seems to have 2 slots for the videocards at 16x which seems better for your setup, although I'm not sure if it'll make much of a different to have 2 x16 slots vs 1 x16 and 1x8

I think the UD5 will have both cards running at x8

A helpful Gaffer shared this link earlier:

I used the line method between the pipes for my 212+ and it's worked great.

Thanks! I'll definitely give the two short lines method a try, then.

Now I just need to decide between my Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste or the Cooler Master brand thermal paste that apparently comes with the 212+.

I realize the difference between good thermal paste and the best thermal paste is only a couple of degrees, but is there a consensus on which is better?

Any particular reason why you're planning on crossfire?
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=26715356&postcount=10527

There's going to be a lot for you to work through and troubleshoot to get everything to work (when it can). If you're dead set on it, make sure the games you want to use it for have crossfire support, otherwise you'll basically need to disable one of your cards when you play them.

yeah kenyon its def the motherboard so im getting a new one tomorrow, and i made sure the ones i reserved ( i cant still decide ) are rev 3.0 or something.
The asrock looks realy good with the pci ports and overclocking tools and the quality of the board looks realy good.
or should i just go with the evo because price difference is only 10 euro and the asrock has a usb 3.0 bay as well.

ASUS Pro if you are not to be doing extreme overclocking.

I was going to get the Deluxe but since there have been posts regarding the difference in between the Pro and deluxe are minimal, I'm going to save some dough and get the pro(that rhymes :D).

thats the evo not the pro. And im not going to do extreme overclocking but def 4.4 or something.

i dont know why but i realy like the fatality one, it looks good and i read some good review on it online and its only 20 euro more.

Quality in motherboards is the stuff you can't see. You like it because of the pretty colors. I know, because I'm the same way. :p

If you ever decide you want to really start getting into fiddling, check out the Sabertooth or the eventual Maximus Crosshair/Gene when they come out.

havent asked your opinion yet, what should you get
asus pro, or evo or this asrock.
because the review about the asrock is pretty good but experience from people i googled is not that promising, somebody even said a asrock board could not detect his 480 ( i dont want that shit again )

UPS just dropped off my first gen Vertex 2. OCZ never bothered to update my RMA ticket after they received my drive so this was quite the pleasant surprise. Tonight I finally rejoin the master race!

I never stopped playing PC games, but playing on low settings at 1024x768 res is no way to game. Especially on a 24 inch monitor.

Omiee...sucks to hear about your problems. I wouldn't bash that thing in (maybe you were kidding). :) You could always sell it on eBay or something...advertise it "as-is" and there are geeks out there that will hack away and fix it.

FWIW, I've owned ASUS, Gigabyte, ABIT, and now MSI (P67A-GD53)...real happy with all of them but this latest MSI board is real solid. Maybe you had some bad luck? Either way, lots of good word on the ASUS. Good luck!

Yeah im just pissed about all of these things happening the last few weeks. Anyhow i was realy serious about bashing it, msi would not even take it back they say i have to go to the store. I might just see if i can sell it for cheap or something. But im getting a new board tomorrow. Asus evo looks pretty good. Fatality looks good as well with all the options it has, but i like the new bios of asus.

Does anyone have a guide on GPU and CPU preferred temperatures?

I bought a gtx580 and idle it is sitting around mid 30's C and at full load it is around 69C.

Just not sure what is safe and sure don't want to blow up that expensive of a video card.

this is what it says, did some googling but could not find something conclusive

I'm thinking those are memory addresses. Take out all the RAM, try one piece at a time and see if it boots. Look at the manual for the MB to see which slot needs to have RAM to boot.
Also, in the BIOS settings, choose default settings for everything, save and reboot.
Then if that doesn't work, try looking around and see if that MB has a habit of setting the RAM voltage too low, may need to increase the RAM voltage to boot.
If you have a working computer with a burner, you could look for MEMTEST, download it and let it boot up the computer (may have to reset the boot order). If it is bad RAM, you should get errors right away.
Also, if your MB has a speaker, the beeps when it tries to boot up may give you an error code, such as beep-beep-beep,

Think I replied to that already, BF3 is probably going to be the most stressful. Right now DICE is running the demos on a GTX580, so an oc on the CPU and a new graphics card should do it. When you OC let us know here and we'll help you along with it. Quick search shows some people getting 3.8 out of that CPU.
