I'm looking to upgrade the CPU on my LGA 775 board as I have 7 GB of DDR2 RAM.

Currently, it runs an oc'ed E2180 at 3 GHz. I'm looking for a quad core option, preferably the Q6600 or the Q9300.

Which one should I choose? The Q6600 sometimes can be found $100 on eBay although it averages at $130 used.

Would a better cost-effective solution be to find an AMD AM3 board that uses DDR2 memory and upgrade from there?

Pissed that Intel decided to make the LGA 775 chips ridiculously priced.

What's the general sense on SSDs now? Is it as good a time as any to be buying them? If so, which brand? OCZ seems to get a lot of attention around here due to its Vertex 3? I also read that Seagate will be entering the market pretty soon with its own lineup of drives. Any comments?

Read my last post, or read the last few pages. There's been a lot of discussion on SSDs in the past 24 hours.

Got my R3 today :(

What do you guys think, RMA the case or just take the $25.00 newegg is offering me. That is roughly 25% value of the case and I am just going to shove it under my desk and never look at it. The two front doors are janky though because of the crack and the front face is a bit off two the left.

Can someone help me with a build to go along with a new Dell U3011 monitor.

I got 2k I can spend on the system after I buy the monitor and am pretty dumb when it comes to this. I have someone who can build it for me he just doesn't have the time right now to go over parts with me as I would like to get this ordered today.

Looking to get the best I can with 2k. I know I would like ssd cause I hate load times on the computer I have now.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

I have been reading this thread a lot lately so yeah I've been keeping up. I'm just trying to assess the state of it right now.

Anyway, any thoughts on OCZ? Seems like they're one of the bigger SSD players now but what are the chances we are going to see them become a strong or even dominant player in this nascent space?

Not sure what I would do here. It'll probably cost you $40 to mail that thing back unless you can get newegg to pay.

the HAF cases look so open that they could be noisy, are they?
my haf 912 is pretty damn quiet, only thing I hear when there is no other noise around is a light blowing from the hyper 212 at full revs, much nicer then my older case

Man, sure seems like the build quality of these NA Fractal R3's are just absolute garbage. Someone needs to get on QA.

Dunno, the side pannel on mine is comically heavy; feels like it could be a shield.

Yeah - the problem is that they still use UPS for shipping. :p

Fking UPS. There's this carrier in the Chicago area called Ensenda. When we got hit with the super blizzard a couple months back, those guys came out to deliver something on 8AM on Sunday, during the blizzard.

I'd love to see someone suggest that to UPS, let alone actually not damaging the shit people send. I can't count on all my appendages how many times I've gotten something damaged through them, at least most of the time it's a cosmetic damage at the box level.

My new computer Asus EP121 finally arrived. So far, fucking loving it. Very responsive, but expected given the advertisement of "The most powerful tablet...". Now, I need to let it recharge, play around with the install programs and see which one to keep. Then a do fresh install of Windows Ultimate.

Here are some pics:

Also, I came to realization that this thread is evil. After all the SLI / CF talk, you people convince me to do it too. I already had a XFX 6970, and to save some money, I went ahead and bought a XFX 6950. Going to unlock it, and hopefully, those two won't have any problems in CF.

Lotsa horror stories about unlocking XFX 6950 to 6970, only able to unlock shaders via 6950 bios and ocing it to 6970 so I highly doubt you can CF that.

I just want to unlock the shaders. And the reason why I went with the XFX, it looks the same as the 6970 and the warranty. If CF doesn't work, I'll just return it to Amazon. Unless it's way cheaper somewhere else or out of stock, I always buy from Amazon. Can't beat their 30 day full refund policy if you are not happy with the purchase.

UPS is awful. Every time I order from Newegg the item gets shipped to a random state. I had something go from california to florida to west virginia to ohio (where I live), to oregon, then back to ohio where it continued to sit for 3 days before they finally delivered it. The miraculous part of the story? The box was just fine.

I've had stuff (a video card) shipped from virginia, and it arrives with a fucking boot print on it, totally crushed. after sitting in columbus for 3 days for no reason. 90% of the stuff they deliver has some sort of box damage, granted its whats inside that matters.

Every time I order something from them, its late, and when I call to bitch that I paid for 3-day delivery and its 5 days in (2 of which it has been sitting in a depot in my state) they hassle about giving me free delivery and always fail to explain why it's late to begin with. One time they did answer and it was because "we don't have any other deliveries to go to your area, so you have to wait or come pick it up."

Fuck those assholes. I paid for delivery to my home in 3 days. Why should I have to wait a week and drive 60 miles to get to their depot. If they can't deliver shit in 3 days then they shouldn't offer 3-day shipping. Its all of their shipping options that's always late too. I once had something over-nighted...took 3 days to get it after it sat in some random state for an entire day.

And none of these incidents could possibly be blamed on weather, the only real allowable excuse.

I constantly call them Fuck Ups, and the pun is most certainly intended.

is there any sense getting a Club 3D GTX 560 GPU if i don't care about 3D? does it cost extra..? is there a better alternative? is a normal GTX 560 exactly the same but no 3D support?

dumb questions probably but oh well.

I only heard issues of the 6950 1GB card, not the 2GB card. I recently did it on my one 6950 2GB and soon as I get some more cash I intend on getting another XFX 6950 2GB.

Club3D is just the name of the company, like Inno3D. Both of them sell standard fair GTX 560s. If anything, they tend to have custom GPU coolers and/or PCBs, but that's about it.

Don't get thrown off by the name.

One more one more :

Do I need both 24pin EATXPWR AND 8pin EATX12V?
Because I'm having a hard time finding a corresponding connection in the snakepit for the 8pin EATX12V slot on my motherboard.

edit : sigh ofc it's there... I'm getting tired :(, almost midnight, must....finish...

Yep. 8 Pin is for the CPU, 24 pin for the mobo.

tigerdirect had a deal on a asus K52JT yesterday that I couldn't pass up. 750$ for a i7 laptop and 6370m. Not that I was gonna game on this thing anyway but it's nice having a dedicated gpu on a laptop. I threw a 80gb vertex 2 SSD in it for good measure and took out that crappy 5400rpm drive and now I have nice little beast of a laptop for well under 1000$

I refuse to get any computer without putting a SSD in it now. lol

Anyone? :p I'm concerned about the ghosting that seems to come with some LED monitors, and I play some high-paced games, so a 2ms LCD seems to be the best bet.

i own one. really good bang for the buck.

no ghosting at all. at least none that i can see. very nice picture quality. no dead pixels. a very good panel considering the price. i paid $197 when i grabbed mine. well worth that, in my opinion.

the only negative would maybe be the stand. the panel only tilts upwards or downwards, there's no hight adjustment or swivel from side to side. another somewhat negative would maybe be the buttons on the front of the panel are somewhat cheap feeling, but overall i don't find them that terrible.

As I mentioned yesterday, there's a high pitched buzzing sound that I notice most when the PC is powered down. I think I've isolated it to the PSU because it seems loudest around there. I dropped by Microcenter today and bought the same exact PSU for testing. But even after I replaced the PSU (and undid all my hard work with cable management), the problem is still there :(

I called Antec customer support and they say if the volume is as low as I think it is, that it's not a major problem. It's true that the buzzing doesn't get louder even when playing games or doing stress tests. It's at a constant volume and only audible if I walk to the back of the case and listen. What do you guys think?

My PSU, a couple people have this issue as well

More SSD reviews cant come fast enough.

I'm also going to be replacing my motherboard with a B3 over the weekend. Hope everything goes alright, not really looking forward to swapping everything again, but I will try using some new thermal paste instead of 3 year old ICD7. Hope that helps my temps and its not actually my TRUE 120 being oxidized all over.

Some parts will make noises like that, not much you can do about that if you got two of them in a row. Maybe ask for a different model.
