Power supply reqs are way overblown because of shitty psus that don't report properly/amd cpus using more power than intel/ a safety net.

Depending on what your cpu is and its clock, that seasonic is more than enough to power a 780

CPU is a 3750. Running at standard clock, obviously.

That's good to know. Now I'm only limited by the size of my case, which I thought was plenty big. :/

So I cancelled my ps4 preorder (no games I want for it currently), and have $400+ burning a hole in my pocket. My current rig is an i5 2550k @ 4ghz, 8 gigs ram, and a 570gtx.

I was thinking of getting a new psu, and 3d card now, then doing a new pc build next fall (reusing my drives, psu, and 3d card, but getting new case, mobo, ram, cpu)

so what can I get for around $300-$400 in a 3d card that would be better than a 570 obviously, but still be decent a year from now (assuming I don't upgrade my card next fall). I'm probably going to do an upgrade on the card I get now, in 2 years.

here is the psu:

So, going to place my order late this week or early next week.

Is the jump between the 280X vs the 290 worth it for £80 and the temperature increase? If I was going to spend £340ish on a card, would you suggest going for nvidia?

Looking to play Battlefield 4, maybe CoD, looking forward to Watch Dogs and games that are fairly graphical intense.

Quick question: Now that Battlefield 4 is released, is it worth upgrading from an Athlon II X4 to a Phenom II X4 or FX-4000 Series CPU? If yes, which one?

Are there any new 1440P monitors? I'm thinking I should go IPS. Not sure if I should take a gamble on a Korean panel or maybe a good black friday deal.

edit: Should I really be worried about driving 1440P with a 680 2gb/3570K oc'ed? I mostly play Dota anyway which does fine at higher res.

Just got a very thoughtful email from evga on keeping your rig clean they recommend every month i personally do it every week.

Dear EVGA Member,,
Thank you for your purchase from EVGA! We like to make sure that you are receiving and will continue to receive a great experience with your EVGA product.

Have you looked inside your system recently? Dust can be a tough foe against your hardware and EVGA is here to help. Take a few minutes to open up your system and make sure your system is running clean and cool at the same time. Here are some simple steps to keep your EVGA product running for a lifetime of use.

1. Every 30 days get some canned/compressed air and clean out your system. Dust can cause heat issues which can lead to hardware failure if not maintained and cause an unwanted RMA in the future. Remove your components one at a time to thoroughly clean them. Take the time to keep your system clean and keep it running.

2. Preventing dust is just as important as keeping it out of your system. Some cases have built in filters to prevent dust and build up from entering your case. Make sure to clean or replace any filters to maintain good clean airflow into your EVGA system. Don’t have any filters? Take a look online for some simple ways to add filters to your case and keep it clean.

3. Running water cooling? Have you flushed your system recently? Water cooling can become a nightmare if not maintained. Make sure to flush your system to prevent mold, algae and build up from creating complications. Make sure to clean your system fans at the same time, blocked air flow on your radiator can cause just as much trouble.

Following these simple steps to maintain your EVGA system will improve your gaming experience and keep you fraggin’ for a lifetime.

Thank you,
EVGA Customer Service

FX 4xxx are pretty crap and poor value next to a FX 63xx. Are you sticking with the same mobo then? What do you have? Where are you buying from?

Ok folks, care to talk me into or out of the EVGA Classified 780 over, say, the 3784-KR?

Are my OC capabilities with the classified really that much stronger?

12 and 13th in line for step up to 780ti at EVGA.

It will mean giving up my ACX coolers but the benches on that card are amazeballs. Plus that 7Ghz RAM.

They're the exact same headset.

Intel is objectively better. It's not just the CPU that we take into account. Examples:

1. The chips consume less power, thus cheaper power supplies can be used.

2. Good over clocking boards for AMD are more expensive (though the basic boards can be cheaper - they often can't run the higher end chips at even their stock clocks)

3. You reference comparing an i3 versus an FX8xxx series. If you buy an FX and you find that it isn't performing to your needs - what is the upgrade path at that point? If you have an i3 you can pop an i5 or i7 in there and get a massive boost without having to replace everything.

I'd have to call BS on this... you don't use AMD and it shows.

I'm running a 1ghz OC on air (3 -> 4ghz) with a MB that ran me $89. My CPU cost $100.

If I did want to upgrade, I could go from my X4 -> FX8 for less than ~$150.

That is superb. I have 0 problems running any game around on ultra at 40+ fps

Funny I ordered my RAM from newegg with their free 4-7 day shipping and my PSU and cpu cooler from amazon (prime) at the same time and I just woke up with the RAM here but not the prime stuff yet.

I'm now more anxious to build than ever with all these parts sitting here.

edit: Amazon order is here now too. haha

Guys can we sell game keys here? I have no interest in the 3 games I got from Nvidia as part of my 780 purchase (Assassins creed 4: black flag, Batman Arkham origins and Splinter cell blacklist) and was wondering if I could sell them.
Its OK if we cant but I thought I would just ask.

Yeah, you can in the B/S/T in the gaming community. If you are doing Batman for really cheap I want in! http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=506332

Go with the GTX650.

Seems like your budget is about $100? If you can stretch it to $30 more, you can get a 2GB HD7850 or GTX650Ti. Or:

Great deal.

Thanks. Sadly, I have a weird obsession with consuming less, not more, so those cards are just unnecessary for me for what I want to do with them.

K. I don't really have an interest in fighting about this. Your reply doesn't call BS on anything I said.

My main point is that while yes, AMD does 'good enough' for cheap, Intel does 'great' for only a little bit more money.

I'm usually more anxious than that. I start building it with the little parts i do have(if i already received the motherboard of course)
I need to open packages right away.

It's pretty damn I bought mine just for slightly more but with the dematting jacked to about near 400$. Worth every penny if you think it's your best bet.
Well, placed an order last night. I expect to be blown away (first time 120/144hz monitor owner here) when it arrives.

Guys this is my build. Which of these should I update to play the games that are coming out later and keeping up with nextgen consoles?

-AMD FX 8350 Eight Core Processor 4.00Ghz
-16Gb Ram I don't know which brand. I know its not neat looking like some I've seen here
-Windows 7
-Galaxy Geforce GTX 660 2GB 192-bit
-Motherboard Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3

Benq XL2420T that is what I'm currently using for my gaming PC. I'm going to get a ps4 soon. Did not pre order but will eventually get it. I might get a nice monitor for it around black Friday if I can find a good deal.
What kind of monitor would be good for the ps4, it will ONLY be used for the ps4 and not pc gaming. Price range does not matter but something that would be nice. I have no idea on monitors. As long as its not too big, because it will be sitting on the same desk as my benq.

Edit: Or I was thinking if I could get a better monitor than the one I currently have and use the new monitor for my PC GAMING and use this benq xl2420t for the ps4?

So this is Post-purchase rationalization in action.

Fact is that Intel stuff is better in almost every area. I like AMD and I'd love to see them become competitive in CPUs but outside of a very small number of applications they're worse at every price point really. I had hoped Steamroller would've helped ail their woes and make them competitive but it seems like we won't see it on the FX platform and only in their APUs.

Now I'm not saying that AMDs stuff in the FX line is crap, they're on a level with the stuff Intel had in 2009 and that's still good hardware but as Kenneh said Intel is by far the better option at the minute.

If AMD started outdoing Intel heavily on features with CPU's they might come back. You used to be able to run an Opteron on your gaming PC.

Just ordered an 840 pro 128gb and some ASUS dvd burner. Build is officially all purchased. I think I'll be able to get it together sometime early next week. :D

For first time builds, sure- buy intel, but anyone going from Phenom II to a new upgrade... it'd be idiotic. Double the cost to switch over to a new mobo+cpu for a negligible difference in performance to an FX chip at the same price.

Plus, I'm betting games built for PS4/X1 are going to scale much better with cores, and thus AMD will gain back a bit of the performance they lose in the mid-low end price segment.

So I am getting crashes now GPU related in Ghosts and BF4.Its been fine for the last month and a bit. Going to tone it down 13 mhz ( 780 GTX goes up/down in 13mhz intervals ) GPU seemed stable up until now. Only thing that changed is the fact these are two brand new games and that I am using the new beta drivers. The crashes have toned down in BF4 due to patches. How much of a performance decreaese will I see going from 1254/6600 to 1241/6590?

As far as PSU goes. If I'm going to run a 4670 slightly OC'd and a GTX 780 probably with 2 HDs, what am I looking at? PCpartpicker says I'm going to be @ 468W. So I was thinking:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139054&Tpk=Corsair RM650

In the past I've usually just gone over board with my PSU but I'm trying to keep my costs down in what ways I can for getting this crazy graphics card D:

550-600w would be nice and safe. 650w seems fine aswell.

I know I should probably read the thread, but I figure I'll just ask and be mocked if needed

I am looking to replace my dying laptop, and seeing how I don't really need a portable computer in this post iPad world, was thinking of getting a desktop. I am a total klutz who should not ever be near a open computer, and have very little patience to deal with troubleshooting/driver issues, ect. What is a decent pre-built computer that I could buy in the 500-700 dollar range that if I wanted to play some games would be ok?
