If you're gaming you don't need 16GB of RAM, 8GB is the sweet spot.

Don't get a 290 now, wait for non-reference ones.

PSU is overkill for a single GPU system. If you want a high efficiency one you can go cheaper

830 is overpriced since it's out of production, get an 840 Evo.

Go Z87 for the mobo.

Even with a 290 this is cheaper

My advice would be hold fire until we see custom cooled 290s, or go for a 780.
Yeah, I went over kill with my PSU and the RAM (figured you could never have too much RAM). I will be holding off for the non-reference R9 290s. Preferably the HiS Model R9 290 for the better cooling.

It's that HX750 you told me about yesterday. :D I might even get a 780 If I can find it. I still have around $300 to play with.

Good stuff, truth be told I'd forgotten :p 780 is a great card (with a nice game bundle), and the 290/290X will be too when the non reference ones arrive.

HIS ones are alright but going by previous form ASUS, Gigabyte and Sapphire will likely be better options.

Are there no reference design 780? I really like that metal cooler it had.

Edit: N/m I found one, hubba hubba. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130916

If only AMD could bother their arse with their reference cooler I could actually think about recommending the 290/290X.

FYI the EVGA FTW model is only $10 more http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130951

I was thinking about this one maybe, since It's already OC I hate trying to find the sweet spot.

Alright new upgrade list. I'm sure some of this will be cheaper by Feb, but It's in my budget as it is.

Edit: Found a SSHD, they don't really label them on PartPicker.

For your question about RAM it's simply based on price, same for the cooler.

ASUS has good motherboards but I'd tend to steer clear of the Extreme4 after it's Z77 incarnation and MSIs G45 has crap VRM cooling. The Gigabyte is a pretty brilliant board for the price but the Asus one for the same money is good. Biostar stuff is good now too, the reason I've chosen it for the second build though is it's pretty much all I can fit in with 16GB of RAM being chosen.

If you'd rather go Nvidia that's fine but your concerns about VRAM will be more of an issue there as they have the 650 Ti Boost and 660 on a 192-bit bus so the 2GB ones are effectively a 1.5GB card whereas the AMD is on a 256bit bus and doesn't have that issue. Plus it's an extra $60 over the AMD card for the cheapest 660 and an extra $34 for the 650 Ti Boost http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

AMD drivers are equally as stable as Nvidia at this point in time, just less feature rich.

As for 3GB of VRAM, it'll not matter on cards at this end of the market.

for the CPU, what's your thoughts bout the new AMD Kaveri APU?
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7507/amd-kaveri-apu-launch-details-desktop-january-14th

so if i wanna go with 16 GB, the best choice is your Biostar Hi-Fi Z87W ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ? if so, how should i know this while i'm searching for another options?

as a quick look on my local market, i found these -some aren't from your selections, but just to have an idea bout the prices-:

Intel Core i5-4670K $233
Intel Core i7-4770K $338
NZXT Respire T40 120mm Fan CPU Cooler $43

these board prices are between $165-$210:

without searching online, i think these prices are ridiculous, so i think i'll import all / some parts from US e-stores like amazon or such cause newegg doesn't accept non-US credit card-
the only annoying thing, that i'd to expect the shipping and importing charges would be up to $180 !!! << this is the price my friend paid for importing a package included GPU+ Motherboard+ keyboard+ CPU + Mouse , all new in their retail boxes :(

so, i have to look for more prices , if the difference in the prices more than $180 locally vs. online, i'd order the parts online, tho i have to sacrifice the warranty cause i cant send back any defective parts due to high shipping charges

as for the GPU, thanks for explaining, i never thought of 600 family, so i ignored that fact bout bus rate, and it seems my other option instead of 7850 is going for 760?

sorry for the long post again, but this one gonna make me see everything clearly :)

Any U2713H users here? I just got one as a warranty replacement for my old U2711 and it has some overshoot issues (inverse ghosting). It's not too bad and only noticeable in certain conditions but still kind of shit.

My warranty has ended now though so I'm kind of stuck with it.. Might just sell it soon and get something else.

Alright, so these are my current specs:

CPU: i5-2500k (overclocked to 4300 MHz)
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: GTX 570 (EVGA Superclocked)
PSU: 750W

Thinking about upgrading to a GTX 780 for future-proofing/graphics whoring ("I can't get Blood Dragon to run at 60 FPS consistently? Blasphemy!"), although I don't know if this is actually a good idea or just a sudden impulse to piss away $500 because I'm not buying a PS4/XBone durning the launch window and I need to waste money somehow. I know it's a pretty significant leap in performance, but is it worth taking the dive now or holding off for another year?

Started to make a Christmas themed build today.

Should have taken a pic before I left, got the graphics cards in it now and replaced the top left fan with another color coded Corsair.

Is it possible to extend the 'boot screen' of the motherboard thing? Like the first thing that comes up on screen...my OCD can't take the fact that it doesn't fit the entire monitor

Problem, I thought I had done everything smoothly, all of the parts I bought work, installed windows 8.1 fine, and put in my drives from my old pc and they show up with all their data as well, fantastic!

Except, my 560ti. It's recognized in the control panel, shows 560ti, but the available memory is 256mb and when I install EVGA precision it says no hardware detected. What could be the issue here?

I can't choose my correct resolution as a result either. :/

edit: I'm a big dumb dumb, all I had to do was restart and everything is correct now.

Does anyone have experience with the Seasonic M12II 650 recommended in the OP? I picked one up, but it's by far the loudest thing in my case. Doesn't sound like there's anything funny going on - just that it seems to spinning at high rpms for whatever reason.

Was scouring around for information and some test sites put it at around 40 dba at idle, while users on forums say that theirs are inaudible...

Wut. If anything you want the BIOS/UEFI to disappear right away. Mine goes away in less than a second so i don't even care about the distorted look.

Re-posting for advice on whether to leave alone or get my brother to replace the HSF:

Everything went well with the build and seems to be working, but with one quirk/possible problem. When cold booting the (Intel) CPU fan stutters a couple of times before kicking in and spinning.

This video shows exactly what its doing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqY-9...1&feature=plcp

It boots fine and temps seem good to me at 26-28c after cold boot/idle and 56-58c after a few hours doing raids in WoW according to RealTemp. He does have 5 120mm, 2 80mm case fans plus a neon light strip in there too!

Specs:

i5 4570@Stock (slaps brother with fish)
8GB Crucial Tactical @1600Mhz
Gigabyte Z87 HD3
Radeon HD6850
WD10EZEX 1TB
Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 550W

With the current price drops, I'm looking at picking up a couple of 780s to run SLI.

Would it be a better idea to pick up a reference model, with the blower fan, due to me running them SLI? Bit worried about heat build-up in the case if I've got two of them running. With my current set up (single 7970GE with Vapor-X - normally 70-73 at load), it can get a little toasty in there during the summer. Or would I be better off just investing in more case fans and going with a non-reference cooler?

I'm still undecided which non-reference model to go for, if I go that route - it'll either be the Windforce, ACX or DirectCU II. They're all much of a muchness price-wise.

Blower designs are generally better when you SLI so it would be a good idea.

So Newegg has the Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 GHz. For $240 - $20 rebate ($220 final.)

Put in an order for one for now, may change my mind later. I've got one already, but for this price I feel like I would get significant performance boost and lengthen the ownership of my current card over spending double or more for 290x or 780 to.

Am I crazy? Should I not bother with SLI for now? Looking for input on whether to keep it I suppose.

Really really good price.

I actually just ordered it for another build I'm doing for a friend.

So far for that build I have (this is subtracting the rebates):
Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 Ghz - $220
MSI-Z77A-G45 - $60
G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 2133 - $54
Corsair 200R - $25

The guy I'm building this for should be picking up a i7 3770K from Microcenter for $265 next week.

Total so far is that's $624. All I need is CPU Cooler, HDD and Power supply. I may be able to get this build around $800 including OS. Around $700 for just hardware.

You could even use the stock cooler for a little while if you want to save a couple bucks right now

If after market CPU coolers weren't such a pain to install, I'd consider it but since the PC will be 2 hours way once I hand it over, I'll want to get that in there during the initial build.

I just ordered some parts for my brother. Does this seem balanced enough?
i5-3750k
2x4GB 1600MHz
GTX 780 ti
550W XFX PSU
some Kingston 64GB SSD + Seagate 1TB HDD
no aftermarket coolers

The SSD is a bit small, and an aftermarket CPU cooler would be good for overclocking in the future. It looks fine aside from those minor points. What motherboard will be used with those parts?

Nice! I would probably look into a aftermarket cpu cooler before getting crazy with overclocks on that 3750k.

You also are pretty tightly specced with that PSU so dont throw another GPU in there.

Whoops. Sorry, typo. The cpu is actually i5-3570K (which was cheaper than i5-3570 where I ordered). No overclocking will take place, though. But I'll keep an eye on the temps during first days of use and decide on cooling later.
Motherboard is MSI B75MA-E33
The machine goes to an architect who allegedly needs CUDA for work, hence nvidia btw. (Gaming will be the "primary" use, though)
And yeah the PSU was the main thing I wanted to check with you guys, I'm happy if it's enough for single gpu.
The SSD will porbably only hold Windows 8, but is the brand reliable (enough)?
Thanks for quick replies!

I tightened the CM Hyper 212 Plus a bit more and I'm getting like 8C better temps on the machine I just built. I'm always nervous to tighten the cooler too much because there's no way to know how much extra pressure your adding with each turn of the screw driver. The Cores of the i7 3770K now max out at 65, 71, 71, 65 after 15 minutes of Prime95 @ 4.4 Ghz 1.25V.

I really need a decent speakers for my desktop, in the 50$-60$ range for pricing. i don't really have any requirements except that it sound good? :)

What would you guys recommend?

If there's a Big Lots near you, check to see if they have some Sylvania(sp?) 2.1 speakers. I've a got a set of those hooked to my rig and they're pretty great for ~$30 speakers.

Anyone ever buy a card directly from EVGA's website? How did you find the shipping experience? After my debacle with the Google Play store, I'm wondering if I should wait for the Classified 780ti to get on Amazon or buy from EVGA directly.

Sup PC GAF. Got a few questions for ya. I'm an experienced PC builder.. Been building PCs for years, but I have a question for those who are more in the know than me.

I'm planning on picking up dual 770s and a 4K(2160p) tv in the coming weeks.. Will my AMD fx 4100 quad core be able to handle 4K, or am I gonna need a new CPU as well?

Dont buy the Shappire 7970. They're crap. I got one from Amazon and it arrived with a busted VRM. Got a replacement and three days after... guess what... one of the vrms would overheat after a few seconds of gaming and the GPU would downclock to 560mhz. Finally got an MSI and had zero problems with that one.

I was under the impression that Sapphire makes some of the better AMD cards. They've been making them the longest I believe out of the current manufacturers. Maybe you got a bad batch. It happens.

My last 2 cards were sapphire and they were both fine and I used them regularly for years overclocked, but every manufacturer will have some number of defects.

I love Pokken!
Guys need to buy a new VGA at the end of this month, which one is the better:

GTX 650ti 2gb, GTX 650ti BOOST 1gb or HD7790 1gb?
