Just raid 0 SSD. Same performance and cheaper.
Nah. First of all, it's not the same performance at all (in terms of IOPS and latency), and even if it were another big draw of M.2 for me is the fact that it takes up basically 0 space and no cables.

I'll just wait a year or so and see what the market looks like then. When I get that SSD I want to install Windows 9 on it anyway.

Trying to flog my GTX 780 which does 1230/3620Mhz bench stable and 1100/3200 stock voltage game stable. Nobody bites. GTX 970 is too good. scan.co.uk are selling GTX 780 Windforce for £230 ebay =(

Looking at the OP and trying to find a monitor. I'm looking for a monitor that has at least 2 HDMI connections and a VGA as well as sound inputs (for my 360). Basically, I want to run my ps4, PC, and 360 to it with ease and not have to worry about unplugging connections.

Maybe this is more common or rarer than I think but I'm Canadian (looking at NCIX but will order from anywhere) and something with a max of $300 (but 250 and less is better).

Ideas? Thoughts?

I have mine slightly overclocked to 4.4GHz using a Noctua HSF and during gaming it basically never goes above ~64C. If you're in the high 60's, I'd say that's too high. Shouldn't hit 70's unless you're doing stress tests IMO.

I'm around that number (64-65c) but not overclocked using evo 212 w/ that cm thermal paste included

What is norm 4790k temps while playing say bf4?

You have to keep in mind that ambiant temp and case temp (that GPU heat) so a few more degree if you have a hotter environment could be normal. But it should be much higher.

What kind of temp are you getting?

EDIT: way too late... work getting in the way.

I'm not even sure what it's supposed to be at. I have everything set to auto in bios Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H

IMO you should run Prime95 for ~15 minutes and use HWMonitor (or whatever, really) to check the voltage and temps. If you can make sure its fine with that, you'll be fine for gaming, etc.

Guys with 1440p monitors, can you downsample? If so which monitor are they?

My 1080p iiyama hates it for some reason, so wondering if you've had any luck with that.

Was wondering if I could get some input:

I'm currently rocking

i7 3770K (Stock)
GTX 670 (Stock)

playing on a 2560 x 1440 monitor.

How much of a boost would a GTX 970/980 be? Where are we at with processor speeds compared to what I currently have?

I always have the option of overclocking if need be. I have great cooling on both the processor and graphics card, so I could always do that.

Guys, I need a laptop for studying, and I'm not really informed about mobile processors so I'll ask here.

What I need: Something to write/compile/run programs on, general purpose use. Size 15.6 max and minimum. Price 400€ max. GPU I don't care, it's integrated anyway. RAM the standard 4GB will be ok I think. For storage, as much as I can get away with (500GB minimum though) Most importantly, the CPU, something that's up to speed (enough not to lock up the whole thing when I have more than a few Firefox tabs open... And enough to play a 1080p video). I guess I'm limited to an i3 because of the price. That's it. :lol

Any suggestions?

I have SLI Windforce GTX 970s. I know the cards will be dumping heat into the case, is this going to cause me cooling issues? My case is a Phanteks Enthoo Pro. My CPU will be cooled using a Swiftech 220X. Still waiting on most of my parts to be delivered, I'm curious if I should be ordering some additional fans.

It should be fine. Can always check the temps once you are up and running with them but it shouldn't add too much heat really.

Not if you have a good airflow.

Your temps are within reason for Haswell I believe but I have heard of auto voltage issues with the Haswell refreshes on old bios versions. You can check it out with CPU-Z.

Test it. If it's hot, get more/better fans.

The ones on the Enthoo pro are pretty good. And the amount of heat dumped into the case by the 970s is fairly marginal. 170W a piece.

This is silly, given the question. He's asking if the airflow is sufficient.

Ok GAF I have a dilemma. Building a new PC, and correct me if I'm wrong but seems like the i7 4790K is the best deal over the 5820K. But, I can get the i7 5820K for $299, as opposed to the 4790K for $279. Overall going with the 4790K over the 5820K would only save me about $150 with the different mobos and memory cards. So is it better to get the 4790K and save the money or get the 5820K?

I want to build a PC that's as cheap as possible. Thing is, I have no experience building my own PC. Basically, all I do is browse and listen to music, so I pretty much need the bare minimum.

If I can get it below €200, I'm happy. Already have a new 3.5" HDD. I need a new optical drive to rip CDs with EAC (€20) and I can get a Windows 7 licence for €30. Okay, that leaves only €150 for a case, power supply, motherboard, CPU (preferably with built-in GPU!) and RAM. That might be do-able if I go second hand? I'm fine with very low specs, as long as I can browse the internet and listen to music smoothly. That's all I'll ever do with it. I definitely won't need more than 4GB RAM.

Any cheap low-spec motherboard and CPU suggestions?

Just an idea, instead of a monitor with three inputs, how about an HDMI switch (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003AQD5W6/?tag=neogaf0e-20) this one is 3 to 1, I am only linking as an example, I am not endorsing this product. Better yet, use a receiver to connect your consoles and PC to one Monitor.

What's you goal with the PC?

If you're planning on video editing or any sort of multimedia creation, the 5820K is a total monster. There's also the increased PCI-E lanes if you were planning to leverage that (16 vs 24).

Otherwise, the 4790K makes a much better gaming platform for the money.

Just keep an eye on Craigslist. Perhaps look for an APU type setup.

Okay guys need help with a case:

Which one of these is best as far as cooling goes and water cooling support as well as other goodies.(best value really)

NZXT Phantom 820 <<< $255.00

Corsair Graphite 760T <<< $249

Antec Nineteen Hundred <<< $265.00

Thermaltake Urban T81 <<< $239

or

Stick with my initial choice which is the Cooler Master Storm Trooper, just not sure the Storm Trooper will support the Corsair H105 cooler.

Thanks.

Have you taken a look at the 780T, which just came out recently to replace the 760T...? By all accounts it is an excellent case, with really good water cooling options.

The Antec 1900 is shockingly bad. I remember watching Tom Logan do a video review of it and he was stunned at the badness of it considering the high price.

Have you looked at the Enthoo Primo? It's really amazing. Very thoughtfully designed and gives you tons of options regarding cooling, etc. If I were going to buy a new case today, this would be the #1 choice.

Well that's what I've heard. And no video editing, so I was thinking the 5820K. But, I am planning on Oculus DK2 development, so I need a lot of power, and was thinking maybe the 5820K would be good for that. Thoughts?

Do you mean DIY water cooling, or a closed loop cooler?

The Phanteks Enthoo Pro or Enthoo Luxe are better than all of those listed.

I have no idea what kind of PC power is required for actual development, but in terms of maintaining a high frame rate for actually using the DK2, the higher probable clock speed on a 4790K would be more beneficial in games than the additional two cores on the 5820K.

I'm looking at both new and second hand for the moment. Problem is when I see something I have no idea how to find out if it's any good...

In case I go for a new low-end processor, which is best? Intel Celeron/Pentium, AMD A4/A6/Sempron?

At your budget, just finding something that is up and running is a good score.

In general, Intel>AMD in terms of power consumption and performance. However, something like an AMD APU (A4/A6/A8) might be well suited for your purpose. Just see what's out there, then maybe post some links in here to what you are looking at. We can respond on a case-by-case basis to make sure you're not getting boned.

Thanks! Right now I'm looking at MSI 760GM-P23 motherboard and AMD A4-4000 processor which are €66 total on Amazon France. Is that decent enough for browsing and music?

Hello. So, I’m thinking about making a new rig, and I’d like a little advise in what I’m doing.
So, right now I have in mind this:

- Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz
- EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB GDDR5 256-bit PCI-E 3.0 x16
- Gigabyte p/ Intel GA-Z97M-D3H LGA 1150
- Corsair 750W RM750 Plus Gold CP-9020055-WW
- Kingston HyperX Fury Black Series 8GB Kit (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz
- HD Seagate SATA III Barracuda 7200 1TB ST1000DM003
- Kingston SSD 2.5´ 60GB V300 SATA III SV300S37A/120G

I’ll use it primarily for gaming, so I’d like a good rig that will work for years without upgrading, and it would be cool if it would be in a not-so-big desktop so it would be like a Steam Machine.

My questions are:
- Is this setup good?
- What changes could I make in this setup so it would be cheaper and still good?
- Do you guys have any recommendation on Desktops ala Alienware X51 or maybe a little bigger, but not a full sized desktop?
- Is it ventilated enough? I don’t want it to obverheat.
Note to oneself: I live in Brazil, and the price of the itens are about 2,5x more expensive than in the USA. The GTX970 is about $700 in here, so I could change it without a problem for a cheaper VGA.

Thanks in advance!

You need an FM2 socket motherboard for that processor. The motherboard you linked is an AM3/FX socket.

Third post in thread for SFF builds. You basically need to carefully select the motherboard, cooler, and PSU depending on which SFF case you go with, but that's all done for you in that build guide.

The Silverstone RVZ01 really interests me, nd I see it fits a GTX 780.
Can change it for a GTX 970? Will it fit?

OK did some tests on the 4790k (stock) running the intel extreme test utility for a couple minutes. Here is idle before the test

After a couple minutes

So is voltage to high...not sure what it should be?

Why is it too high? Temps are fine. I'm not sure what the problem is.

Hell, if you're just web browsing, etc, maybe a cheap Kabini build?

Something like this? Or buy used for more performance/$. It won't be a gaming rig, but if all you're doing is browsing/watching videos/etc, you should be fine. A plus is that you get building experience so you're more comfortable when you decide to build a gaming rig.
