I repeat my question from the previous page(s).

I want to get a new case and I kind of like the Silverstone RVZ01, but I have two questions about it, being a case on the smaller side:
  • Can I use my current PSU - Corsair CX 750 W with it?
  • Does the Gigabyte 780 3gb fit in it?

1: Nope
2: Nope, most likly not, as they are quite long

For some reason I was thinking you were looking at an ITX board given the ITX case, and totally missed that.

But will it fit a BitFenix Prodigy?
And will that motherboard run well with the rest of the specs?

I stopped checking about hardware aroudn 2009, so I know nothing about motherboards!

No. ITX case = ITX motherboard

There is a mATX Prodigy, but it is very clearly listed as such and fits the hardware in completely differently.

Prodigy, only ITX.

Prodigy M, mATX.

Not to be a broken record, but the SFF guide in post 3 has specific hardware selections to prevent this. It gets super super tricky when you go small. Everything from the PSU, to the heatsink, to RAM, to the motherboard needs to be hand picked for each case. They all have their little quirks.

I've been slowly buying parts for the new pc I'm building. Here are the parts I already bought:

CPU- Intel i7-4820k
Ram- Vengence DDR3 32GB
Motherboard- Asus Rampage IV Black Edition
Harddrives - 1TB Solid State, 2tb drive
Dvd/Bluray drive
Case

All I need is the graphics card, power supply, and liquid cooling. I was just wondering how's this setup?

Awesome stuff, have you been sniping good deals on used parts?

The Haswell-E stuff just came out (X99/5820K), which would give you DDR4 and a 6 core part for about the same price. If you've bought it new, and are able to return it, you might consider it.

It's not a significant difference though, especially with gaming performance. Haswell-E and DDR4 does absolutely demolish multimedia creation though.

Ok, so I ran into a slight problem while installing my new card.

My old card (GTX 570) had two slots where I plug in the power (two slots of 3x2 holes). My new card, (GTX 970) has those same two slots, but one slot on the card has a 4x2 hole. The wires coming from my PSU only have the 3x2 prongs.

What am I looking to do here? It looks like the 970 came with a wire with a 4x2 prong, but I have no idea where to connect it.

Damn, that's more complex that I remember.

Ok, stratch everything about these "mini-cases" I was talking about.
That spec I plan to biuld, will it fit and work perfectly on a Haf 912? Or is the motherboard nor compatible with it too?

I'm reposting this for you, Mkenyon, since you missed it earlier over the weekend:

This thing is dead silent at idle. I can't tell whether it's on or off unless I'm looking at it. Radiator fans idle at 300RPM. Case fans around 500RPM. While the build quality of this case is amazing, there are a few things I'm really peeved about. First, the PSU stand is terribly done. It's just the shit metal folded up vertically. Makes it very hard to keep it steady as you screw it in. Second, there needs to be another 5mm of space on the back side. I spent 30 mins rearranging cables to get the back cover on.

5820K at 4.4Ghz and 1.265V.
295X2 at stock clocks (no need for more).

Edit: My CPU package temp is typically 8-10C over my hottest core. Any idea what this means? It just seems very irregular. Not a big deal cause all my temps are still great. Outside of Prime95, I've yet to crack 50C package temp.

Agreed about the back panel. It's actually the reason I ended up buying the SM5 over it in the first place, as I had some crafty routing stuff up my sleeve for the copper pipe.

I'm considering getting a new PC. Had my current one for about 4yrs now so feel it may be time.

I saw on HotUKDeals that the GTX 780 / GTX 780ti have all been heavily discounted on places like Overclockers and Scan. Would I be better off picking up one of these cards? Or getting a GTX 970 or 980 instead.

I'll only be gaming on a single monitor at 1080p, but I'm looking at something that will last several years.

If 780 is ~ $50ish less than 970, then worth it. If 780 Ti is $50ish less than 980, then fuck that and still get the 970.

The 970 is amazing performance for the money.

Good to hear. But I'm still with a question about the motherboard:
Will the GA-Z97M-D3H work with the GTX760 and the i5? or is this motherboard mini ITX and won't work?

And thanks a lot for helping me, I would be lost without your guidance!

I would but my motherboard is not compatible with the 5820K. My motherboard supports LGA2011. I think the Haswell-E is LGA2011 V3. I checked the specs online. Personally, I'm happy with the parts I bought. All the parts I bought with a discount. I would say the motherboard was the most expensive. I'm planning on buying a gtx 980. I'm thinking about getting two of these. I am only upgrading since The Witcher 3 is coming out next year. Also, I am in serious need for a upgrade. This computer I have right now has gtx 480, and I had this since 2009. I'm planning on not upgrading for a long time though, I'm talking about 7 to 9 years. If anything, I will replace the graphics card when the time comes. So, I've have a general plan on how I want to do this.

Upon further research, it looks like I need to use this "Molex to 8-pin PCIe Power" cable? Can I just plug the two 4 pin ends into any open section coming from the PSU?

Yeah, that'll be fine.

I'd make sure that your molex cables draw from the same 12V rail as your PCI-E connectors. If it's on a different rail with lower amps, you might have issues.

For some reason I was thinking you were looking at an ITX board given the ITX case, and totally missed that.

That is a micro ATX (mATX) board, and will not fit in the Stacker 915.

1) No, you need a SFX PSU, and Silverstone makes the best ones.
2) Reference or with the triple fan cooler?

Triple fan cooler.

Yeah, those!

Ok, how do I know I'm on the same "rail"? My two mesh enclosed PCI-E wires don't have any offshoots or extra spots to plug things in, unlike say, the wire going to my harddrive, which has a ton of those 4 prong slots.

Pics:

ItAlk5q.jpg

Here you can see the empty slot on the GPU. It needs 8 pins. My PCI-E wires only end in 6 pins.

6WfZL7P.jpg

Here you can see the adaptor that came with it. Two ends have the plastic 4 pin, the other end has the 8 pin. I plugged in the two 4 pin ends into another wire coming from the GPU (the one connecting to my HDD) and then I will plug the 8 pin into the GPU.

Will this work?

Thanks.

Should I just go with the V750 in the build sheet list? Or do you have other recommendations? Modular really appeals to me as a neatfreak who's last PC had horrific cable management.

The V750 is a good PSU, you shouldn't have any problems with it.

I have SLI Windforce GTX 970s. I know the cards will be dumping heat into the case, is this going to cause me cooling issues? My case is a Phanteks Enthoo Pro. My CPU will be cooled using a Swiftech 220X. Still waiting on most of my parts to be delivered, I'm curious if I should be ordering some additional fans.

You should be fine, you may need to swap out a fan or two but that would be it.

Ok GAF, I just finished my build up today right before I had to leave for work (grrrr). I've got the following:

Intel Core i7 5820k 3.3GHz OC'd to 4.2GHz
Gigabyte GeForce GTX970 Windforce 4GB DDR5 x2 in SLI
MSI X99 SLI Plus Motherboard
Rosewill Capstone 750W PSU
4x Corsair 4GB DDR4 2133MHz
Seagate Hybrid Drive ST4000DX001 4TB MLC/8GB
Samsung SSD 2.5´ 250 GB 840 EVO SATA III
Creative Sound Blaster Z
Corsair WaterCooler Hydro Series - High Performance H110
NZXT H440 Silent Case

For Monitors I went with:
27" QNIX QX2710 2560x1440 QHD PLS
27" LG 1920x1080 3D Monitor D2743P-BN 27" IPS

Overall, this setup was a joy to build. I LOVE the H440 case, it has so many neat features and it keeps my components quiet and cool (plus it looks beautiful!).

My i7 5820k stays under 70C at full load in Prime95, and my SLI'd 970's stay under 70 even in the most demanding gaming situation I've been able to find for them. Coming from a 3 year old PC that was put together using the cheapest components I could get (minus the GTX 680 video card and i5 2500k that I won in a contest), I'm amazed at just how nice and premium everything looks and feels.

But this wouldn't be a proper build post without pics, so without further ado (please excuse the mess in the background, in the middle of a remodel project on the house):

Oh, shit!!

The extra 2 pin that is hanging from the 6 pin - does that "plug in" with the 6 to form an 8 pin?
Yep :p

I didn't bother asking, as there's a ton of PSUs out there that only have the 6 pin, rather than 6+2 pin PCI-E cables.

I read it once, and filed it under "not important", so I can't remember what it is exactly for the life of me. In any case, feel free to ignore that.

No worries, dude. You couldn't take into account that I'm a total idiot. Thanks for all your help, though, mate.
So you know, 8 pins are for CPUs. The 8 pins on the PCI-E connectors are known as "6+2" for the fact that the two are sometimes needed and sometimes not. And no prob. \m/

Can anyone suggest a good 230mm case fan?

I've read some reviews of the BitFenix Pro 230mm fans and they seemed ok. Figured there might be better ones out there.

What case? You're almost always better going with 2 120mm fans.

The Spectre Pros run fast and are super loud, but do move air.

Yep. Since installing my 970 I think my spectre pro is the loudest thing in my PC. Might swap it out for a couple of 120mm noctuas, unless there is any decent alternative in the world of quiet fans these days? for the front of a bitfenix prodigy

Is there any way to split a fan header to control the speed of two or more fans? I only have one system fan header and one CPU fan header (gigabyte H77N motherboard) and they are used with the H60 cooler

You're in the same boat as me. After installing the Gigabyte 970 I have more hot air in my case considering my old card was a blower type. It's not much hotter since I am using a HAF 932 but I'd like to replace the 230mm. Actually I may just replace the side and top 230mm and go with two 120m on the side and top.

They sell 2 to 1 Y style fan splitters. Link

Despite the full-screen apps and the Start page, I actually don't think I could go back to W7. W8 is just so much zippier and more responsive.
