I need to get a new router. What's a really, really good one for around $100 or lower?

My PC is plugged into a 1920x1200p 27 inch monitor. I just tried plugging into my 60 inch TV (1080p) and it definitely loses some crispness.

Am I crazy for wanting to stick with the smaller screen?

Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte are all good choices. The Gigabyte has the best cooler but is also the largest so it may not fit in your case.

I'll second that recommendation.

Well I'm building a new rig so I can make the case big enough :) thanks.

Now to figure out if it'll fit in a bitfenix shinobi or if I need an XL

Dear PC Gaf,

What's the general consensus of MSI motherboards based on experience/anecdotes?

I bought one not long ago, the z97 Gaming 5 to be exact and I think it's just not that good. I've had issues with the network card and drivers, but that's about it.

How good of an overclocking mb is it? I haven't done any overclocking and to be honest I'm scared of frying my CPU or GPU...

I'll second that recommendation.

To add on to that, which one is overall the better choice? and as far as overclocking potential?

MSI 970 or Gigabyte? Also noob question, can I run two Gigabyte 970's in SLI with a 750 watt PSU? I've heard the gigabyte version uses a 600 watt cooler?

I use 2x Gigabyte 970 with a Corsair HX750W, works great.

Which SSD?

MX100 500gb or Samsung Evo 500Gb?

I have the 840 Evo-variant, and I can personally vouch for it, bug given the recent discovery of a pretty serious issue, I'd probably go with the MX100.

Haven't noticed the issue myself yet, though.

I use the same mobo. It's fine/great for overclocking. Just take your time and I promise you want fry anything haha.

Hey, just wanted to see if anyone had any feedback about this build:

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/baddatabaddata/saved/3W3H99

Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz
EVGA GTX 770 4GB FTW (already purchased, got it used for $100 off)
Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 1 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3
Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SSD
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular
Case: NZXT Phantom 410
3 Corsair Air Series AF120 Quiet Edition 39.9 CFM 120mm (two on the top, one in the back)
1 Noctua NF-A14 FLX 68.0 CFM 140mm (in the front, so the brown is hidden ;P)

Anything jump out as being a bad idea? I'm really hoping to keep it pretty quiet. Thanks!

Have you taken a look at the 780T, which just came out recently to replace the 760T...? By all accounts it is an excellent case, with really good water cooling options.

The Antec 1900 is shockingly bad. I remember watching Tom Logan do a video review of it and he was stunned at the badness of it considering the high price.

Have you looked at the Enthoo Primo? It's really amazing. Very thoughtfully designed and gives you tons of options regarding cooling, etc. If I were going to buy a new case today, this would be the #1 choice.

Unfortunetly neither the 780T or the Enthoo Primo is even being sold at my Shop, so that kind of sucks, I'll cross of the the Antec 1900.

Would you say the Graphite 760T is superior to the CM Storm trooper as far as functionality goes and not looks?

Thanks.

Do you mean DIY water cooling, or a closed loop cooler?

The Phanteks Enthoo Pro or Enthoo Luxe are better than all of those listed.

See above, unfortunately my store does not sell the Phantek brand or any Enthoo, so I'm out of luck also I meant the AIO H105 cooler.

Here is the site which case is best: http://www.mwave.com.au/cases-enclosures/computer-cases-pc-cases

Australian prices are a bit crazy, I'm willing to go to $260 for the case and no more.

I wish I lived where you guys live as the cases you guys recommended look great.

How about the Cooler Master HAF Stacker 935? Only $29 more expensive then the CM Storm Trooper which is $200, while Corsair Graphite 760T is $250.

This is a bit of a weird one, but I need some helping building a video capture box. It isn't going to be doing the heavy editing, but I would imagine the CPU would still need to be decent. I already have the capture device, a sc-512n1-L. The smaller I can make the box, the better. Essentially my Mac Pro is a 1,1, which only has PCI-e 1.0, which doesnt want to handle 1080p60.

I wont be capturing uncompressed, though, so a crazy RAID setup isn't necessary either.

Is there a concensus on the best 970 variant? I hear the EVGA is noisy. I don't mind OCing myself.

Ive got the MSI model in the cart atm.

Too early for a consensus to emerge. I think you are fine with any of the first tier brands. I personally am impressed (on paper only, I've only read about it) with the ASUS Strix and the way the fan and cooling settings are set up.

So you want to buy from that MWave place, and you want a full tower with Water Cooling possibilities...? My Chicago Bears are on Monday Night Football right now. I'll come back after the 2nd half and look over what that site offers.

Yes correct and thanks Appaws when you have time that would be great, some for $250-260 for a case, would be great if the case is great and its cheaper, then even better :)

Reworked my build a bit. PartsPicker suggests 350W~

Will the 550W be able to handle OCing the CPU to whatever the typical clock is?

550W may limit your maximum overclock a bit, if you wanted to be safe a 600 or 650 watt power supply wouldn't be a bad idea. Would also give room to OC your video card later.

Edit: Also, I don't think that's a particularly good PSU so I'd probably bump it up anyway.

Edit 2: What about this? Antec TruePower Classic 650W 80+ Gold Certified - 64.99 after $20 rebate from Newegg.

Thanks for the insight. I was thinking of going with the V750 in Hazaro's builds, but man that price creep, plus 750 is probably overkill. I'll look at the Antec. Thanks again!

I'm rocking a 750W PSU. I do think it's worth it if you can fit it in your budget, would allow for SLI in the future if you wanted.

Hmm, I may have to use this build for myself, lol. Gonna be building my first gaming rig later in the year and that looks like almost exactly what I want and it fits my budget (might be a little over it but I'll see what I can do about that)

Would something like this would be able to handle whatever I throw into Dolphin/PCSX2 at 1080p and full speed? It's really important to me that I can have a rig that handles them, alongside running modern games at 1080p60fps with medium/high settings.

Yeah I may honestly just go with that.

I would assume so. I'd like for this build to be capable of that as well. I think you'd definitley need to OC the CPU for it to happen.

Found this PSU, and kept it right under $1200, lots of good reviews on this one:

OK, my Bears won and I am obsessed with cases anyway, so no problem.

I looked around on that site, and I am thinking your best bet might be the Thermaltake T81.

http://www.mwave.com.au/product/thermaltake-urban-t81-full-tower-case-ab55036

I am pretty impressed with it, particularly the modularity of the drive cages and optical bays....and it has room for massive rads in front and on top.

I personally like the modern styling and the brushed aluminum finish.

Here is a short video review of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3luzEiWXidM

You can cram a lot of cooling in there!!! Although this is a little crazy.

Congrats on the win :) , thanks for the help I might just get this case was keen on the Graphite 760T however seeing some reviews Thermaltake t81 looks to be just as great.

Just to confirm with people of Neogaf the i7 5930K is a waste of Money if I plan on ever going 2x SLI,right?

$230 difference between the 5820K is a bit drastic with a 200MHZ upclock and 40 lanes instead of 28,that is what I'm thinking.

Well, just built a new i7-4790s based system in prep for my GTX 970 that should be shipping soon. I got an amazing deal on the CPU - $175. I figured my old i7-2600 would be a bottleneck. Also gave me a reason to upgrade to a 2 TB mirror.

Now I need to find a good 1440p monitor.

Yes, 5820k is great and is no problem if you SLI with 2 cards.

Cheers, I was tempted then I scoured the Internet for Reviews on the i7 5820K and 5930K, seems the i7 5960X is the one getting most of the attention.(hard to find one focusing on just 5820K or a 5820K VS 5930K)

I decided on my build, I'm now happy I did buy an additional 248GB SSD for just the OS and other non gaming Programs, while the 1TB SSD will be Steam/Origin Drive :)

Also I used my credit at Mwave and decided paying $87.85 cents extra for the Asus X99 Deluxe over the GB X99 UD4 was worth it.

Other then that my Build remains same except the Case I got was the Corsair Graphite 760T, I wanted the Thermaltake but I looked at pictures and I decided to be shallow.(Thanks appaws, sorry for wasting your time)

You're in the same boat as me. After installing the Gigabyte 970 I have more hot air in my case considering my old card was a blower type. It's not much hotter since I am using a HAF 932 but I'd like to replace the 230mm. Actually I may just replace the side and top 230mm and go with two 120m on the side and top.

They sell 2 to 1 Y style fan splitters. Link

Thanks, is it safe to split out the cpu fan header? That's the only one that varies in speed, system fan I have to run at full speed as it is the H60 pump (Don't think I can run that off direct power because it needs the monitoring to check it is spinning?)

I need your help GAF!!

I was gifted a computer some family pulled money together to buy. THE MOTHERBOARD has went into an infinite loop and has died. This is what I get for just pressing that OC Genie II button :/. Unfortunately, they bought it off craigslist and have no real way to RMA it. So I ask you one favor GAF:

Can you reccomend me a motherboad that will fit into my case and will perform well with my Core I5 2500k?
I've never built a PC before, but I'm smart enough to figure it out.

The motherboard I was using is a LG1155 socket:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130574

Processor: Core i5 2500k
RAM: 8 GB 1600 mhz
Power Supply: 880 watts of something
And I think the case is a full sized ATX Case

Whatever you reccomend I'll buy now. Thank you so much guys. Also, should I just get any old thermal paste to go along with it?

Until someone smarter and more experienced responds, I'll recommend the GIGABYTE GA-Z77 for a 1155 socket MOBO

Seems to be reviewed well and in stock at most places.

What do I need to do to get my PC ready for my 970 that I'll be installing tomorrow. I'll be replacing a 670. Should I download the latest driver now or wait 'til the card's installed? Anything else I should do?

Thanks.

Before you make any unnecessary expenses, if you were just colloquially referring to your motherboard as dead since it's stuck in a loop, there might be something you can do. There's a small circular battery about the size of a coin on your motherboard; with your computer off, remove the battery, wait a minute or so, and place it back in. Doing so should bring you back to default BIOS settings, and out of your loop. If you have a GPU installed in the upper PCIE slot it might be a bit difficult to access, and you may want to remove your GPU before attempting to remove the battery.

If you've already tried this and come away unsuccessful, I don't really know what else to tell you other than to at least wait until tomorrow so that you can get some advice from the thread gurus before buying a replacement.

Someone in the other thread said to download the beta drivers. Then tomorrow you just uninstall your current drivers, turn off your pc, take out the old card, replace it with the 970, boot it up and install the fresh drivers. That should do it.

This, I doubt the Motherboard breaks because of using the OC Genie button. Or use the jumper on the motherboard, that might be easier.

I've already done everything I can to clear CMOS,

There seems to be evidence on the internet that suggests an inherent incompatibility between MSI's OC Genie and the P67 chipset. It infinite boot looped on me once before and when it officially restarted it told me to restore settings in Bios. This time it's completely off it's rocker.

Anyone know if GA-H97-HD3 supports i7-4790K, because on intel cpu support site it does not appear on the list and on Gigabyte site it states that it support it.

It will work but you should spend a bit more and get a Z97. K CPU with an H97 is a bit of a waste, won't be able to overclock.
