And if you intend on using it as a headset, I purchased this mic to go with it. Huge success. The people I play with say I sound just as good as I did with my old plantronics headset.

It's okay, but definitely not as great as the ModMic.
That's 2 votes for the X1's, anyone else?
I can also say the X1s are great. Not the absolute best for virtualized surround if that is your bag though. They are a lot more "fun" than cans that generally do better with virtualized surround though.
Do you mean to get the most out of my card, one of those solutions would work best? Also, I plan on going nvidia/intel when I build again probably mid-late next year.
I really wouldn't suggest putting any more money in your AM3+ socket. It's a dead socket, and the procs just aren't the best gaming processors. Start saving for one of the configurations in the OP.

The microphone on my Sennheiser PC360 headset has stopped working out of nowhere. I tried the front panel from sound card, motherboard directly, a laptop etc. Ports are all fine, the mic is dead.

It's almost 3 years old, warranty is 2 years. Of course!

The RMA fun
expensive
time begins now.
So today I have discovered that the direct surround sound jacks on my sound card are also dead. Strangely the front panel connectors still work (where the headset was plugged into).

Why audio gods. How have I angered you?!

Hmm my pc has started to just randomly shut down, mainly when gaming. Event Viewer says something about Kernel Power and Event ID 41. Some quick googling suggest that it may be the PSU failing, do you guys have any ideas how to be sure if it is indeed the PSU?

How much of a loss in audio quality will i get if i just plug them straight in to my headphone jack vs an amp?

God damn that looks so good.

Going to be picking up one of these with SLI 880's when they launch, probably gonna go with the 5820k as well.

If you're SLIing it would be better for you to go for the 5930k. More pcie lanes than the 5820k. Ideal for multiple GPUs.

Of course you don't have to and it will run fine. But if you're gonna go high end with two 880s anyway...

If they're eyeing something like the Rampage V, there's no need. It has a PLX chip to take care of PCI-E lane stuff.

Oh really, didn't know that.

Thanks for the heads up!

Edit: Would the PLX chip give me x16/x16 sli?

I'm at my wit's end here. My frontpanel USB ports (3.0) just refuse to accept anything that isn't my 1TB external. Everytime I plug anything in, be it a 1GB stick or even my iPhone it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting up until the computer shuts off the port due to it exceeding voltage. They all work when plugged into the regular USB ports from behind but I really don't want to have to do that everytime I want to load some music or charge my phone.

Is there any advice I can get on the subject? Google has not helped me at all.

...any chance your USB 3.0 is connected to a 2.0 port on the mobo?

Or an extra cable isn't plugged in? -Eh.

I really hate USB and power-lacking issues. I assume power is the problem. Your 1TB external has an external power source right?

It doesn't actually. I just plug the USB in and it's ready to go. That's what's so weird to me - this far more demanding drive goes fine while everything lesser is rejected.

That does sound headache inducing...sorry.

I remember a while back, installation for some of my devices messed up on some USB ports and I just simply had to use another port to get them working. I think it was when I was messing with console controllers.

There must be a way to delete the drivers it installs (specific to that usb port). I wouldn't know how to advise doing that in Device Manager though.

Perhaps you tried installing them while it was powering your 1tb external and it couldn't cope and messed up the driver installation or something whacky? Might be worth trying to clear the drivers and going about it again.

Although

I'm not sure, sorry...

Last option being getting a USB extension cable to swing round from the back or one of those externally powered usb port hubs (nice ones with switches too).

Hey everyone, my brother-in-law is in the process of building his first PC. He has all of the parts but is running into a problem while trying to install Windows 7. It always freezes at either the screen where you select a language or "Install Now." A few time he has made it past those screens but it always freezes. I'm not actually there in person because he lives in a different state so I'm just trying to figure out what the problem could be. His motherboard is GA-B85M-D3H. He's tried two different Windows discs and two different disc drives. Does anyone have any ideas?

Edit: I forgot to mention some things we've checked.

- In BIOS, set to Legacy Boot.

- Check for Secure Boot, isn't present to turn off.

- Set SATA ports to IDE.

- Used MemTest86 to check RAM.

Edit 2: Did some more researching through Google and found a post by someone who had a similar issue and said he just let it sit there for awhile and eventually the installation started. So, my brother-in-law tried this and it worked. Problem solved.

Make sure the CPU cooler is on properly and it isn't overheating and crashing.

Check the RAM is in nice too.

I'm ready to buy a copy of Windows 8/8.1. I know I saw something on here within the past week or two about software swap being messed up when it comes to windows. What am I to do friends?!

Off-topic, I couldn't think of a better place to ask about this - I'm looking to get a HDMI splitter which will take in my PS3 and my PC as inputs, is there anything I should look out for when I'm buying one? What price-range should I aim for? I was hoping to be able to get a good one for sub $40 but I'm not sure if that's possible anymore.

Sorry if it's been covered, but how far out are high-quality G Sync monitors?

I don't game much on PC anymore but I'm very interested in the tech. I would be willing to get an Nvidia card and replace my 24" TN LCD if the pickings are ripe.

What do you mean by 'software swap'?

Splitter or switcher?

The Reddit software swap that everyone says to go to for Windows licenses.

iirc the subreddit has had to clean up its act in terms on MS licenses it seems, when I last checked hardly any windows keys to be found & I did hear MS was starting to jump on such instances.

The best announced one is out as of yesterday. ASUS PG278Q

I wouldn't expect an IPS ever. I'd hope and dream for a VA. OLED maybe in the future.
