I really think Overwatch deserves GoTY over Uncharted 4. It's historically unlikely.

Ive played through UC4 twice this year. It's the pinnacle for story driven singleplayer games. Loved every second of it and can't wait to get back in when survival mode arrives.

Who cares?

I mean, why do you care. A small panel of people are voting on their personal favorite game of the year. Big deal.

It could be Star Ocean V and I'd laugh and move on with my life, because it doesn't matter. I'll place my vote where I can and care more about those results.

I wouldn't have agreed with this a week ago but after the free weekend I'm hooked and bought and can't stop playing it's amazing

I don't think either deserve it and would be annoyed if one of them did, so surely one of them is set to sweep an inane amount of awards.

I liked UC4 more than Overwatch, but as a father with children, I guess I'm not really the target group of Overwatch. I'd probably be all over it when I was still in college, like Unreal Tournament back in the day. So I can see why people like it and would probably mind it less than UC4 winning, even if I liked it less. If that makes sense.

edit:

I played overwatch for day (when it was free) and you know what?
It's just another FPS, nothing more, nothing less.

Sure, some characters have different skills and what not, but at the end of the day is all about killing each other.

It bored me to death very, very quickly.

I've stopped playing FPS since the dreamcast era, with unreal tournament.
That was truly the pinnacle for me and it has not improved much since than nor will ever improve.

EDIT: Oh and well, Uncharted 4 is a looker, but it's just another action game
with no real substance to be honest.

old man brofist

There is a lot people who only play the series for its single player and never even seriously attempt the MP, which just outright silly.

And UC4 MP has been generally viewed favorably and it is popular (there's also a shit load of competition in this area).

I'd agree. But unless it's outstanding I can't really see it improving people's opinion of Uncharted 4. TLOU has a great multiplayer mode but that wasn't referenced a ton as a reason for the awards it got.

Rainbow Six: Siege is a proper candidate to be a GOTY, not Overwatch. Sorry guys.

Both games are trying to do completely different things. If either of them win, it's deserving. No need to put UC4 down just because it doesn't strictly "put gameplay first".

I had blast with Overwatch this past weekend as well, but it does nothing for me compared to Uncharted 4. Granted I am not much of a competitive MP guy though.

Bloodborne WAS robbed while this forum rode the Witcher 3 dick train. Fuck that game. Generic and overhyped to the Nth degree. But it's pretty and has boobs so GOTY.

Also, Uncharted 4 was a stunning, incredibly well crafted, beautiful and super boring game.

Never played Overwatch as I'm not a huge fan of multiplayer.

DOOM is my GOTY for 2016 by a country mile.

One year later and you still hate Witcher 3. How petty can you get?

Damn didn't realize Uncharted 4 was the new highly praised and reviewed game that people are compelled to trash to show how refined their gaming tastes are. Another MGS5/Skyrim/Fallout.

That said, I think Overwatch has complete shit mechanics for an FPS but it's fun as a MP game when I can get my brain to not think of it as a competitive FPS. I'd be fine with any making it. There are a few others I think belong in the conversation also.

The official Blizzard thread was lying to you then, as far as level goes. I very, very rarely end up playing against people who haven't prestiged at least once when I am in anything but Competitive. Player level isn't the main factor, but I can't help but feel it is a factor. I've played shooters competitively mainly my entire life and I have yet to ever find the "bad matchmaking" argument compelling because it almost always relies on either the matchmaking from the perspective of a single person and the idea that matchmaking either works or it doesn't. I guarantee you have plenty of good games. Probably even the majority. But you don't get pissed off and stop playing because of them. You don't get angry at them. You play, you enjoy yourself, and then completely forget about them out of frustration once you play a bad game.

That might not be exactly what is happening here, but for most cases I find that is how that goes.

Playing in a close match in Overwatch has been some of the most fun I've had in a shooter ( I don't play many). That's why the is contrast of steam rolling matches are so much more frustrating. When I first started playing I don't know what i was doing and that was fine because the people i played against didn't either. Then as I leveled, I got a little better (realizing i'm not playing team death match) and close matches became less and less common. Sure you can say that I'm just playing better people, but steam rolls happen on both sides. I'll lose 4 games horribly (no one on my team is on the board at the end of the match (when I'm not playing Mercy) then I'll win 2 completely dominating the other team.

It ture, I don't know everything that going on in the background with matchmaking, but its has to be a better way. I know i'm not the only person that feels like this else why would blizzard feel the need to explain how their matching works if people weren't taking issue with it?

It's nominated for best multiplayer for The Game Awards.

Due to TGA taking place in the same year as the games it's considering it has to miss some of the games that release late. For instance, even though it releases in December 2016, Dead Rising 4 could be The Game Awards 2017's GOTY.

Despite being someone that enjoys SP games over MP, I actually agree here. Overwatch is a monumental game that will be played for years to come. No one will be playing or talking about UC4 in 2 years.

That said, GOTY for me is still DOOM or Forza Horizon 3.

Game journalists don't really have the time to get sucked into one game for endless hours the way that fans tend to. As such, a focused single player experience often resonates better with them. It's uncommon that a multiplayer game will be played by journalists for anywhere close to the same amount of time that it was by fans. Rare exceptions do occur, but the last time I can really think of something like that was when Battlefield 1942 took IGN's goty over Metroid Prime back in 2002. Other than that, even games like Gears of War which really did take the IGN office by storm for a while end up tapering off rather quickly simply due to the sheer number of other games that come down the pipeline.

This is why we're not gonna see Monster Hunters ever winning goty from major outlets in spite of those games kicking so much ass in terms of design and long-term playability. I don't however think that Uncharted 4 is gonna sweep awards this year. While reviewers seemed to like that game, I actually don't see the continued enthusiasm for it the way that I do for something smaller and more original like INSIDE.

Deep in everyone's heart people know it should really be Pokemon Go, and some of the more esteemed venues will go with it, leading to lots of cognitive dissonance.

GOTY awards are almost universally given to story heavy SP games, at least for stuff like the game awards.

I brought up all the awards that those games won because I think it shows that they aren't against giving it to some multiplayer games. Those games just didn't live up to the pre-release hype. I think Overwatch has a shot at winning since if anything it exceeded the pre-release hype that it had. And if anything, Overwatch is specifically the type of multiplayer game that will win an award like this. It's an online FPS. Just like Evolve and Titfanfall. Racers and fighters are the multiplayer-oriented games that have no chance in hell of winning these awards. It's rare for them to even get nominated for anything outside of the specific genre awards they're in.

From my pure subjective view: Uncharted 4 should win.
But I only played Uncharted 4 from beginning to end and 2nd time, and several chapters. The other nominees, except Inside which I did not played at all, I just played in the mp betas/free trial for Doom. No other nominee catched me to pick them up.

If there would be Dishonored 2 nominated for GotY it would be a little bit more difficult for me to choose Uncharted 4.

I agree. That's why I think all the reviews and rating are bias ant not real. Uncharted 4 is not a bad game but also not good.

I just said that, but it's worth noting Siege came out last year in December. Game's easily my goty this year still tho.

If only they deeeeeelay only a month. Haha.

HAHAHA you nailed me!!

So yeah about R6 and Overwatch PS4.

I bought Overwatch first back in August, tried all characters (apparently it has time limit, I was about 3 characters left but I am kicked out of training session because the system saying I've been in training for too long). Played like only 5 match then done. I wasn't that impressed, this is like playing team fortress 2, and all those "heroes, not classes" is not valid. They still a class ._. and the hitbox seems too big. In my first match I wasn't dead at all. But the positive: very noob friedly and accessible game. No wonder friend in my circles are playing this game.

Then in beginning of November just now a friend of mine telling me that he kinda regret not playing R6 from release date. So yeah I decided to give it a try while it is cheap (PS4). OMG I LIKED IT!!! The tactical aspect, of course. In CoD/BF1 I just run and shooting at people. R6S is kinda different for me. The downside is...it is Ubisoft game. You know the problems, lol.

I purchased R6S again on PC. Weekdays on PC, weekends on PS4. No regret buying both versions.

So yeah. GOTY! (Lets just think R6S released in January :p )

I agree. That's why I think all the reviews and rating are bias ant not real. Uncharted 4 is not a bad game but also not good.

Of course all reviews are bias. They're opinions. Of course all award shows are bias. They're opinions.

Everyone has bias. The sooner we accept that and learn not to invest so heavily in the opinions of one or a small group of people the better off we're gonna be.

Game reviewers don't have time to invest hundreds of hours in a game. So all these multiplayer only/focused games? Yeah, they're gonna have a bias against them. That's the way it is.

How salty will you be when Blood & Wine picks up an award?

jesus lol

Personally, Uncharted 4 is my GOTY.
But all the nominees deserve to win in my opinion, so I would be okay if Overwatch for example would win.

People seem to take this way too serious.

Damn didn't realize Uncharted 4 was the new highly praised and reviewed game that people are compelled to trash to show how refined their gaming tastes are. Another MGS5/Skyrim/Fallout.

FFXV is next lol. That's how gaf rolls. First couple months is praise, then after a while, a couple loud voices will say it's a bad game, then everybody jumps in on the bandwagon lol.

I didn't like overwatch.. at all. Sold it after just a few brawls.

It's just not for me, i don't know why i bought into the hype with it since i'm not fond of multiplayer. Silly me.

So yeah, different strokes.

Deep in everyone's heart people know it should really be Pokemon Go, and some of the more esteemed venues will go with it, leading to lots of cognitive dissonance.

You could probably make a good argument for in the same way you could for Destiny, nothing really comes close to being as huge as Pokemon Go was, for a couple of months it seemed everyone was playing and talking about it, from the hardest of hardcore to grandpas and everything in between, it literally being a walking sim and not a very good game doesn't even really matter, as no game was bigger in 2016.

Overwatch? Overrated.

Uncharted 4? Uncharted bore.

DOOM is the only real winner and you know it. Titanfall 2 is also acceptable.

FFXV is next lol. That's how gaf rolls. First couple months is praise, then after a while, a couple loud voices will say it's a bad game, then everybody jumps in on the bandwagon lol.

Nah people just engage in the bubble that is the OTs for Naughty Dog games and thus miss that some people might not like their latest games.

Uncharted shouldn't even be a nomination. Uncharted 2? Sure. But 4 is not an amazing game.

Yes it is an amazing game. I honestly didn't care for 2 much at all. UC4 blew me away.

But back on-topic, I do think Overwatch deserves to get GOTY awards (and I'm sure it will from some outlets). It's one of the best MP games in years.

Overwatch more like Overrated.

Uncharted 4 more like Unfun Bore.

Doom more like Dumb.

Titanfall 2 more like Titandull Drool.

Gears of War 4 more like Gears of More Snores.

Only it was muuuuuuuch bigger than Destiny, and also much more transformative.

Overwatch or DS3 should easily be GOTY both are great games that have a ton of replayability. Uncharted 4 was a flash in the pan.

The window is November 25th through November 24th.

It's nominated for best multiplayer for The Game Awards.

Good explanation. I thought current GOTYs are must be released in 2016. So December 2016 games (if nominated) are still valid for 2017 GOTY?
