Ok... I know there is a way you can open the console and mess with some screws, from what I hear this can completely solve the problem? Anyone care to enlighten me on this?

If not... how much does it cost to get it fixed? It's getting pretty bad. Some games seem to run choppier than usual, others break up with audio and stuff (MGS3, GTA:SA show both... they didn't 6-8 months ago).

i thought Sony fixes them for free now? I would call them and find out first, cause if you open it up you void the warrenty and they aren't touching it.

Yeah, it was the result of a class-action lawsuit. As long as your problem and model fit the parameters they legally have to fix it for free.

Ah. It has to say "Disc Read Error." Mine doesn't say that, not yet. But I can tell you it's definitely getting worse. Audio breaks up all the time, it takes forever for the PS2 to sense the game discs, even if they're already in the drive when I first turn it on, framerates for some games seem to be TOO LOW even for the PS2's below average performance when it comes to framerates sometimes.

Tisk tisk Sony, should've just put a Lite-On or NEC DVD-ROM drive in the PS2. :p

wait....... i thought they didn't fix 'em for free no matter what?

shit, if they do, my PS2 gives me Disk Read Errors all the time with half my games now. gimme, gimme the #. and what ?s will they ask?

Everyone I know with a PS2 has had this fault at least once. One friend is actually on his fourth PS2. Great console but the qulaity of the hardware is shit.
