I love Alien and Aliens two of the greatest films ever made and two of my favourites ever. Classics but the
Alien 3 is ok I guess. Haven’t seen Romulus yet
Resurrection is meh
Prometheus and covenant are trash

But I’ve just watched the Predator and it’s a Solid film

What with
Predator 1 ,2 Predators the predator and the film Prey all being solid movies
1 is the best

I just think Predator wins out for having a consistent record of better quality films.

Even though I hold Alien and Aliens in higher regard with the original Predator being a great film I just don’t think it’s a patch on the first two Alien films

Oh AVP and AVP2 can fuck off and don’t count

Exactly. I think because Alien and Aliens defined a genre they are higher in regard for me.

Predator is lower tier for me so I give it more leeway maybe that’s it.

I have to watch Romulus.

The Alien franchise has always tried to be "bigger" than just an action movie, which has led to a lot of masturbatory sequels or concepts getting made. Prometheus and Covenant really stick out here.

Predator feels like it at least knows what it is and doesn't really try and do this extra level of world building, so the movies can be more pure action.

I like the Alien franchise better in theory, but it does feel like they're essentially green-lighting fanfics more than establishing some truly deep and well thought out world-building.

I havent seen all the Aliens and Pred movies. Ive seen all the older ones though and only a few past 20 years.

I gave up on Alien movies about 10 years ago. Aliens still gets regular rewatches.

Predator 2 gave us such great Predator weapons, plus just enough lore to expand the Predator mythology without making it fall apart. It would have been better served with a different lead I think, not that Danny Glover isn't great, but he isn't quite as believable taking on the Predator.

Alien, Aliens and Prometheus are all good with Aliens being the standout entry.

Predator, Predator 2 are classics of course with the 1st being the standout entry.

It's probably Alien. It's not like Predator 2 for as fun as it is, is literally flawless. And I don't think any of the other Predator movies compare to Prometheus. Alien 3 is watchable, even if it has issues. And I haven't even seen the new ones for either franchise.

P.S. I'd probably put Robocop in 1st place still. Robocop 1, 2 and Robodoc.

Anyway, I think the clear nod goes to the Alien franchise. The overall quality of the films, comics, games, for Alien is much better than Predator. They never really cracked doing the Predator in another genre which worked so well for the Alien to Aliens jump. Of course 90% of the credit goes to James Cameron and his detailed world building for Aliens, the Ridley Scott contributions are...less helpful IMHO.

I know that aliens is the better series. Maybe that’s why I am harsh on it.

For me, everything good about the first Predator movie has nothing to do with the Predator at all. The actual Predator alien by itself is cheesy man in suit nonsense. And the lore and back story is silly. There was no where to go but down from the first movie.

While the Alien from the Aliens franchise was something so unique and the starting point for some acutal interesting world building. Not all the movies are great. But at least they all have interesting themes and a world that is relatively plausible.

That's kind of it. Predator is a simple concept that will always work for it and it can potentially thrive without human characters as well. They're Saiyans with a code of honor.

I feel like the Alien movie writers don't know where to take anything because they're scared of changing lore, especially around the corporations like Weyland Yutani.

It's this!, the best movie or movies of both franchises are in the 80's and just before, Alien was 79 i think, and they have never been matched, and Aliens is still 1 ahead for me. the later films were all a bit disappointing in one way or another.

I think alien still take the edge, but i also love predator 1 way more than the 2 aliens movies so...

Also, i don't think predator has lows as lower as alien, no predator movie annoyed me as much as covenant, because the bad predators movie deep inside know they are cheesy, trashy movies, the bad aliens movies always feel like they expect to be considered more sophisticated, so them being straight trash is even worse, but of course this is just the impression i have from them.

Correct. Theres a lot of slasher horror movies nowadays and theyre all extremely overrated yet no one cares. Also the first Alien movie set the standard for horror movies and though many have tried it has yet to be surpassed. It's a shame Ridley Scott nowadays is a shell of what he used to make.
