I want to enjoy Silent Hill 2, but it is too fucking scary for me

Do my hack trick... Play normally, eliminate enemies but when you are in critical health, save the game... And restarting again improves your health a little.

So I use this trick and I have 3 syringes and 8 health bottles.
No tricks used, and on normal difficulty I have 6 syringes and 15 health bottles :messenger_sunglasses: My recommendation is to never use guns on 1v1. Just take time on the first encounter with a new enemy to not assault him and study hits attack pattern and how you can avoid all the attacks. Then use guns only for multiple enemies encounters and boss fights (and you'll need a lot of ammos for the hospital boss fights).

Play it at night, alone in a dark room. Make sure you start around 2am and wear headphones with the volume at max.

Optional but not necessary: Box of tissues and/or adult size diapers and a pacifier.

And no the pacifier is not to suck on. Its to plug the rear in case of uncontrollable slippages.

And I left a cemetery of monsters with the pipe XD.

Stop running from your fear and embrace it instead. Allow yourself to be frightened, then look forward to the next time you get frightened. Tell yourself it's not scary enough, you want the game to do it's worse. You WANT to be afraid. You want to feel your heart pounding. You want that adrenaline rush. Because it makes you feel alive. Let your fear eventually mold you into something stronger, until eventually you become something different entirely. And the only thing they fear is you.

You just have to jump in and play it to get over it. I played SH2 when it came out on ps2, it was psychological horror, not like a slasher horror like RE7 and 8 so different kind of scary. Most terrifying game I played was Outlast. What i would do when i played it was just run around and die, figure out how close you can get to the enemies before they spot you. Try to break the game by screwing around, it should help.

What time is it?
Silent Hill 2 can feel very creepy but the original and especially the remake have a lack of enemy variety and enough encounters that the scares wear off fairly quickly.

Ur not alone my friend
I remember back when re7 was released I put my kid and wife to sleep put on the headphone and started playing it in pitch black after a few hours I said to my self fuck this shit ,this is too scary and then finished it at day time with people around me

Play next to someone.

I still remember playing RE3 back then, throwing the controller to the fella on the side whenever Nemesis appeared. Good times.

The better graphics become, the worse it’s going to get. I remember hearing stories about how P.T. was increasing heart rates so much that there were fears of people having heart attacks.

Imagine a Silent Hill 3 or 4 Remake with PS6 graphics.

Turn on the mode that let you see the outlines of the enemies if you are that scared, or play without headphones, i thought the game was kinda scary at the beginning but then you understand how enemy think and the scary part just come from the random audio effects during the exploration.

Wait until you get to the hospital and then the prison...

My body tried to stop me from picking up the controller when I played SH2. Like it just didn't want me to experience that shit again. I got used to it after a few hours, though. But gosh, what a game this is.

Don't blame you. I'm never affected by games. Never. But Christ this game is a proper slog of tension. Especially the run after the hospital to the end of the prison. I had to put it down and take a bit of a break

Reading threads like this makes me feel abnormal because I don't get scared by horror things :lollipop_Mr_Smith:
Have you played SH2 all 18 hours and made sure to turn the haptics on max?

The haptics are what finally got me towards the end. Basically with the haptics and the way they are setup in this game, the game itself is streamed directly to your central nervous system.

I hate to admit it but I had to turn them down at the end. It just wasn't worth going thru that stress at every encounter with the controller fighting me and trying successfully to make me feel like I was really struggling.

It also doesn't help that James can take even just minor damage and it actually affects the way he controls, walks, and runs. It's such a good game but unfortunately much of that "goodness" was used to make me feel like I'm actually living a nightmare in the game. It's intense even with no fear, the intensity is pretty crazy considering how long the game goes on for. There is a stretch in the game where you don't see light for like 4-8 hours.

Also, the dark areas of the game are handled differently. Some dark areas can be lightened with upping the brightness of the screen, but there is a special mechanic in MOST of the dark areas that make them what I call "milky dark" meaning that the flashlight will not penetrate over a few feet in front of you by design no matter what level your brightness is on, you will not be able to see beyond your light for much of the game. It's a 10/10 but only for real horror fans and I'm not shook easily, this one almost made me quit. It just keeps fucking with you long after you are ready for it to stop. The story really gets amazing but only right at the end(of an 18 hour game), so it is a game that doesn't give you much hope and is an experience designed to destroy one's sanity. There ain't no rushing this game either. I tried to rush, still took me the same time as everyone else. The game expects you to be in a mad rush the whole way. Genius game actually.

Horror games just require you to push through until you gain confidence. Stick with it and you'll be begging for more encounters before you know it.

Wait until you get to the underground prison. I'm a pretty seasoned horror fan and can endure (and enjoy) much fear but that section of the game was very scary, almost to the point of exhaustion. Bloober did a great job with the horror element of SH2. It was legit scary in a way I haven't felt in a long time. You can do this OP 💪

I haven't picked this one up, but I did play and beat the original. I could only play if someone was watching me. Somehow that made it not as scary.

Dude, you could be the next pewdiepie, screaming for 12 year olds. You’re blowing it.

I don’t think I’ve ever been scared of tv/movies/games before. I think it’s cause my brain knows it’s all fake. Doesn’t really faze me.

Can’t Git Gud
What I did was playing on speakers and only when my wife was home :D
Avoid headphones son. The 3d audio is too incredible

I felt this way for the original games and I feel the same way about this game as well! And I put it down to 1 main factor- Akira Yamaoka! Guy is a genius in sound design and music in the Silent Hill games. Look, level design is great. Creature designs are superb. The story is my favorite in video games (especially the original 2 games). Yet for me, it comes down to the sound!!! If I turn the tv volume down, the game doesn't scare me. Crank the volume up and I am engulfed in fear, and NO games have ever had this effect on me! In fact, no media in general (maybe apart from some David Lynch stuff) has me completely scared like this!

So OP, I completely feel your pain in playing Silent Hill 2 remake! Brilliant game though!
