Indiana Jones and the Great Circle |OT| Fortune and Glory, kid. Fortune and Glory.

Currently walking around in the Vatican, had no idea the game was like this, was expecting a straightforward action adventure, but this has very strong riddick vibes and it's awesome so far; opening the game with a 1:1 of raiders was brilliant too.

Very strong atmosphere, voice actor is good too, feels like I'm actually in an indiana jones movie.

The vatican infiltration mission though, I was being all stealthy, but then I found a rifle and I couldn't help myself

I think I even shot a guy that was supposed to be my guard break tutorial, saw someone lurking on the bridge while I was still all the way up top and just sniped him lol; got the prompt to do a guard break while crossing the bridge, but there was no one there 🤣

Anyway great stuff so far, if they don't fumble the vibes/story, the this is a winner.

Think that was supposed to be a tutorial, but yeah, think they could have done something original.
Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Indy movies always have these exciting and original intro sequences. But this game does the least exciting or original thing possible and just recreates the most iconic intro.

But whatever - like I said I'm still digging the actual game. Just thought they should have done their own thing for the intro.

There's a bug since getting to Vatican that kills performances if switching from path tracing to RT. I kept moving back and forth in some places to compare and then it suddenly gets unplayable, kills performances by 1/5 until you restart game.

Nah, I thought it was fun and also a great way to tie this game to the original trilogy instead of the later movies right from the outset.

Anyone else got excited when the game starts and Indy is in third-person? I thought this was a surprise the devs added with a patch, only to be disappointed when it transitioned into first-person.

Don’t bother, it’s super taxing and I am on a 4090. I don’t think they optimized the game well, might wait for more patches.

You can turn it on in the video settings and select full RT.

Just booted up the game and it's the most unoptimized and unplayable shit I have seen in years, even on a 7800X3D and 4090.

Thought there would be some hope since Bethesda is only the publisher, but everything their name is on seems to be complete shit.

Unplayable? I'm playing on 4080 laptop. It is fine. You have full RT on or something?

Meant third-person. The first shot is third-person and transitions to first when you start moving.
There’s a lot of third person in the game. Like Riddick. Some people have been saying this for months. No one listened.

What res and with FG on or off?
1440p, highest visual settings, DLSS quality and FG off.

FG ON makes the framerate fluctuate in a strange way, almost bouncy as if something is truly wrong, plus adds latency, so I’ve always had that off. Don’t know what’s causing it, if there is a settings fix then please share.

Well then - no.
I did like how they used that for a little dramatic flourish when they showed Indie's face for the first time.

You really prefer the same scene you've seen a hundred times (also recreated and parodied a thousand times) over something new and exciting? Think of how exciting and original both Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade's intros are, and how they're all so different from each other. Spielberg was a fucking master.

Having said that, it's not easy to make an iconic Indiana Jones intro (nuking the fridge, anyone?), so I understand why MachineGames chose the easier path here.

Maybe FG stands for Frame Galloping?

Yeah, max settings with full RT at 3840x1600. Game is running at 30 FPS with DLSS and 19 FPS with TAA while utilizing ~10% CPU and ~50% GPU, which suggests it's horribly optimized. Frame Generation seems broken. The frames fluctuate a lot, as if it's constantly being enabled and disabled.

Give how often Indy is looking at stuff up close I think a third person game would have as much "zoom in to see whats in front of you" as this game has "zoom out to see Indy moving around". I'm starting to see why they went with first person.

Not sure I agree, but I can see the choice thye made.

I turned on mainly high non-path tracing 4K on my 5800x, 6900XT, like maybe 30 seconds set-up, and it has been perhaps the smoothest modern AAA experience I have had.

PT is the problem. I turned that off. Still getting some stutters every now and then but for the most part, it plays really well.

If we hadn't had a bunch of shitty movies they are trying to distance themselves from then I think they might have tried something different. But playing through that intro did put me in the mood for an Indie game.

cant believe this game doesnt support the dualsense on the xbox app. I really dont understand it. if you are supporting it on steam and you are porting this shit on console, just support the dual sense on the xbox app.

i have to use ds4windows which is adding drifting whenever i turn the right analog stick to the right. never had this issue with any other game before.

i dont see it under advanced video settings like i see in some youtubers vids. they definitely turned it off for 10gb cards.

How's your frame rate and system utilization?
Framerate is about 70 - 100 depending on where I am, didn't bother turning the other metrics on, game looks good and fluid - I'm not gonna stress about the rest.

Also seeing how awkward Indy's movements are when in third person.......I'm starting to understand as well why they decided to stick to what they know. I guess there is just a lot more to making a characters movement look fluid in third person when having to do so many different interactions.

Either way, it worked out better than I thought it would so I'm good with it.

You realise full rt means path tracing right? It's just very taxing, game is very optimised otherwise and runs smooth as butter for me.

Yes, I realize that but a game that barely utilizes a system's hardware is far from optimized. Disabling features isn't a solution to that.

The game is optimised, maybe you're experiencing a bug with the path tracing option, but that doesn't mean the game itself "unoptimised uplayable shit".

During the introduction level, there are some items you can pick up around the lake where you can first swim. Three items in all I think I found, while searching around the edges of the lake. I dont know if you can go back to this area later?

Gotta put this game away for the night. Put about two and a half hours in and I'm really digging it. Only combat I've had to deal with was a couple of fist fights, but other than that, I've been doing fine with the stealth. Really like figuring out ways to get from point A to point B indirectly and not being detected. Reminds me of TLOU 2 in that way. Very well done so far.

And dang.....that Troy Baker man. Can't say enough about how he nailed Harrison Ford. What an amazing talent.

This game is far from optimized, especially with RT enabled. Poor system utilization = poor optimization. Turning down settings until the game requires less resources to push more frames is not a proper a solution.

DLSS barely works. Frame generation is completely broken. Even the devs acknowledged some kind of issue with DLSS, at the very least.

Either something is broken or the game is horribly optimized. It's not a bug on my end.

Runs beautifully for me 🤷

especially with RT enabled
There's no way to turn off RT, path tracing, which was only added a few hours ago, can optionally be turned on.

It's not a bug on my end.
Didn't say anything about your end, just that you might be experiencing a bug, which sounds to be the case and will probably be fixed sooner rather than later.

Think it might have been better if they had just called it "path tracing" in the settings like other games. May be causing some confusion as to what this is.
