Indiana Jones and the Great Circle |OT| Fortune and Glory, kid. Fortune and Glory.

So I had my first bummer moment at the end of yesterdays session.

I’m still at the Vatican and the chick just got introduced. I’m supposed to go see Antonio your priest buddy, but instead I said fuck that and continued to wander around exploring. Came upon this pretty big puzzle involving a fountain. I’m solving away at it and hit a point where the chick suddenly pops up to help, in different attire.

We solve the puzzle, and move forward completely bypassing whatever important story beat and info dump occurred by visiting Antonio. So now a couple of things are being referenced and I have no idea what they’re talking about 😒

I mean that’s cool and all you’re able to jump around like that, but maybe gatekeep the ability to bypass story cutscenes? At least on a first run? I dunno, it seemed way off to me to be able to do that still relatively early on.
In Prey, the biggest story twist is shown to you on screen when you have control of your character. You can very easily miss it if you are goofing around with some vendor /character there.

I was quite impressed by that actually, game didn’t force feed me the story bits. I was free to engage in them if I wanted.

Maybe its similar here?

Every area Indy tells himself to wrap up other things there before moving on to the last quest of the area. Happens in Egypt as well. When you hear him say that, don’t do the last story mission before wrapping up the field work.

He didn’t say shit

It’s fine though

Been listening to impressions and I am loving hearing how they made exploring rewarding and how it’s a legit adventure game and not a TR/Uncharted style “adventure” game.

Also seems we were duped on the Sweet Baby crap. They either weren’t involved or had a tiny role in whatever they did because there doesn’t seem to be any woke elements at all.

Indiana Jones is a respected series, so they probably totally canned any woke crap.

They played it by the book.

Mr Bean Waiting GIF by MOODMAN

Waiting for EST launch, feels like an eternity

Bought on Steam. Feels like I’ll be in minority because it doesn’t really make sense with gamepass but I never liked the app and the fact that when I’m done it’s gone. I like the idea of gamepass for small tryouts, indies I would not have bought etc, but not a spiritual successor to Riddick.

Recommend anyone who gets to the Vatican to just start the fieldwork immediately. I got really deep into the city and then had to turn around to start side quests then just to go all the way back into the map. Fast travel system isn't great and you have to stealth back to where you were a lot of times.

Why is this game launching so late in the day, are they trying to make sure people who didn't pay don't get much time with it during the weekend?

Still in the Vatican, but so far the omission of "woke" stuff has been great. Hell, you play for like 2-3 hours before a woman even speaks, much less anyone bossing Indy around or whatever. There is a young nun that needs your help to reach a book that's too high for her, a cranky old nun that needs your help, another pines for a photo of a priest/ Sure, there are lots of female painters working on the Vatican but that's probably historically accurate since all the men are walking around as blackshirts :p Plus they are losing stuff ALL THE TIME. Even Gina, the willful reporter, doesn't snatch her binoculars away from Indy or anything. She is a strongly written character but (so far at least) stays in her lane. There are no women amongst the Balckshirts, there are no "tough girlbosses'" in the boxing ring (unless one shows up out of nowhere later on).

There’s woke crap in it (a lesbian character), but the rage grifters on Twitter haven’t played that far yet to throw a fit over it. The boycott and rage bait will start around Tuesday or Wednesday.

I don’t think they ever advertised this as Uncharted like, that’s a comparison console warriors and game media leaned into. The trailers showed red flags worth of lack of action that had me very skeptical of this game.

If you go into it being its own thing, and not trying to fit the PS4 defined “action adventure” genre then I think folks will enjoy it.

Then comes the question of “buy or gamepass” (or Im assuming PS PLUS eventually as well) and that comes down to your own disposable income. I’m a big fan of Gamepass and PS plus instead of spending $70 on a game but everyone is different.

got it pre-loaded, countdown says 7hours left, nice that it's launching around midnight.
Does anyone know if it's play anywhere? It's not tagged as such on the store, but I'd like to play any possible future content on console instead of pc to save space.

Well, it looks like Machine Games pulled it off! I'm hearing very good things for people whose opinions I trust in the ImSim community. This will for sure be a "launch title" when I buy an RT card. Played some Old Blood last night and it did get me pretty hype for this Indy. Enjoy fellas! Now I have to talk myself out of buying that Battlemage card (what could go wrong?)

Again, the existence of a lesbian character isn't woke.

Woke is having the lesbian character be a better Indiana Jones than Indiana Jones. If that's not happening, then no one gives a shit.

Is it ready to install on pc gamepass?

Yep, seems to be a pleasant surprise. Going to grab it on Christmas when I have off till New Year’s.

Thank you for patiently waiting. Yes, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle supports Xbox Play Anywhere. This means you can play it on both Xbox and Windows PC with a single purchase, and your progress will sync across both platforms
Support answer, took a moment to get there so I'm still a bit suspicious.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
There’s woke in it, but you don’t run into it until the second area, but so far it’s just a throwaway line and by the time you hear it the game is already at GOTY status. But grifters gonna grift, so expect to see Tweets and a 200 page thread about it here next week.

It’s minor:
A character’s sister who is missing and part of the mystery had a girlfriend.

Lol, yeah that shouldn't even register on the scale.

You’re joking right? People have spent the last year swearing that a gay dev on the dev team was making the game woke.

Another session and it’s climbing my GOTY list… I’m doing the final things at the vatican and it’s already top 3 this year for me. As an Indy movie fan I’m floored, no doubt the best Indy game ever and the whole thing feels like a movie and without gameplay getting downgraded, and the atmosphere is sooo good. They’ve been cooking this well!

Absolutely love how much freedom there is too, in everything from combat to how you reach areas of interest and the alternate routes. Top notch. And I like how you use the torches and can throw them into dark holes and over chasms to have later. Brilliant!

It’s slow-paced though. Slower than expected. Too slow at times imo. And very stealth focused unless you want a whole army rushing after you. I hear comparisons to Uncharted but unless it changes later people really shouldn’t go in expecting an Uncharted here, or Tomb Raider, this is a different type of game even if the themes are similar.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

I expect a lot of revisionist recollection now that the game has been received well, had it been a 70s scoring game, you can bet that picture would have been spammed in the topic right now.

It’s Play Anywhere ready, as every MGS thank god MS is pushing this through all of their studios. Play Anywhere is a blessing

Looks like it's a simultaneous global launch centered around midnight London time.

5hr30min to go. Thinking of playing this mainly on the ol' XSX. Looks like it's a solid 60fps on console.
Have you seen some comparisons on DF between XSX and PC? PC looks like a remaster next to the console version.

again: just because a developer hires sweet baby does not mean that they somehow become obligated to do whatever they might suggest. after all, who's paying who? as likely as not, developers are coming to understand that 'inclusivity' isn't quite the delicate, elaborate 'rocket science' that sweet baby claims to be the masters of, & that it's more just simple common sense...

Non-path traced and without any RT looks miles ahead of console version, make your own conclusions.
Playing at 4K DLSS balanced at 120fps on my 4070Ti. Its runs so smooth and image quality impeccible. Its such a shame that Microsoft isn't leveraging its own iD Tech within its own studios.

Runs like a dream and looks fantastic.

Try the pathtracing for us. Does it look significantly different?

Man I swear my Frame Generation has zero effect in this game. Literally gained 0 FPS for some reason with the new patch with DLSS Quality.
