how come hilary has a female name?

I have a female name. So what. Plus, it's unisex. :p

Waiting for more reviews. Don't know why, I'll probably just pick it up. The game looks fine in my eyes. The short length doesn't bother me one bit. I would have preferred if some RPGs I played were 20 hours shorter. The character designs look nice to me. I'll probably enjoy the game no matter how much IGN wants to sh!t on it. Can't help but wonder why Square Enix gave IGN the exclusive review with the treatment they gave it. Are all the others worse, because it does leave a poor impression on the game. Two days of 7.1 is how I've been looking at this game. I don't hold numbers for much, but I can't help but think this way.

I got grudge sucked!
EB/Gamestop has the release date back to 09/02. I guess they were hoping to get it into stores for the labor day weekend but no such luck

Scored a B on 1up.
Fitch reviewed it.

This game looks like it plays like Rogue Galaxy.
That is a good thing. Rogue Galaxy was one of my favorite RPGS ever. Highly underrated.

Very interesting...

The first few hours of Infinite Undiscovery, the first current-generation offering from acclaimed Valkyrie Profile creator tri-Ace, are so out of character for the otherwise reliable developer that they almost feel like an intentional primer for what not to do when designing an action-role-playing game. Undiscovery kicks off with a flaccid dungeon hack, a tedious chase scene, a grinding stealth-action segment, a pointless escort mission, an ill-advised attempt at a Legend of Zelda-style labyrinth, a half-assed castle-siege minigame, and scores of unvoiced cut-scenes straight outta 1995 -- and on the rare occasion that voices are present, they're laughable lip-synch that even Speed Racer himself would mock. Oh, and to top it all off, the game's got the chutzpah to immediately force the most grating, disturbing Palom and Porom knockoffs ever into your party. They're a couple of creepy, vacant-eyed gremlins who'd be right at home in The Shining.

ouch, just fucking ouch.

score for us working folk? maybe some "highlights"? please?
I suppose this statement sums up the review the best:

To me, though, Undiscovery is really more than the sum of its parts -- despite the badly botched opening segments and frustrating menu and navigational issues, it really won me over with its rewarding combat, kooky charm, and goofy humor

Sorry, I wasn't sure if I should post the score or not, knowing how certain people like the suspense and all.

It is harsh, but I've been convinced since the first shot of Capell carrying Aya while running from the dragon that I would hate the opening bits of the game, so at least I was prepared for it. :lol

He briefly mentions that he doesn't whether there are multiple endings or not and that SE wouldn't confirm there were. Considering VP and SC3 had them, I would hope there are some.

sounds like a good game with a shit opening.
Yeah. The review was fairly positive (eventually).
One thing i sorta get but dont really get, is the complaining about the size of the environments. Five minutes for town to town travel doesn't sound like something so large it deserves bitching about. Unless the environments are real empty like, or something?

It seems as though the biggest polarizing factor is whether or not the reviewers enjoy managing stats/equipment like Fitch does.

well, not really a negative review. obviously it has it pros and cons, but it still seems to be good enough to be a worthy purchase.

anyway, i'm still annoyed about several things but especially the unvoiced cut-scenes, but i hope it really doesn't hurt that bad

This review is so much better than the crappy IGN one. Funny, if the review had been a C then this thread would have ballooned by another 5 pages already.

Come on people, get HYPED. Bonus dungeon!

Baldur's Gate II can relate.

The opening dungeon is so awful, it took me over three years to finally sack up and complete it. Thank goodness I did, or else I would have missed one of the greatest RPGs ever created.

Fitch mentions the different difficulty levels and a post-game dungeon of extreme proportions, none of which was mentioned by Hilary. I wonder if Hilary even did research to find out if there were these extras, or if he completed the game like Fitch did (not that you need to complete a game to review it). If you are going to say the game has no extras (like Hilary did), then shouldn't he have been 100% about it?

apparently the IGN guy, only played the parts Fitch didn't like to much.. then stopped.
Yeah looks that way. Oscar Worthy review style.

In 10 years, IGN will look at the cover, depending of the cover art rate the game, and add the extra info from the back to fill the review.

In Tri-Ace tradition, it probably has no save points and numerous freezing glitches.

Fortunately I've never had this issue in SO3 and VP2. Also, hype for IU hath returnathed! Fuck IGN!

I guess the day is saved. Wow, the 1up review is way more informative than what IGN had to offer. Maybe the IGN guy really didn't play through the game.

I for one am glad the game is on the shorter side since I will most likely be playing through twice in a row for the endgame content.

Got the pre-order bonus when I was at GS today. It's a code to download a "Special Voucher" which gives you access to bonus items when you shop at stores. Although it does say you still have to purchase them with in-game monies.

They had it early? Here it seems they only give that stuff out when you pick up the game on release day?

Sounds alright. It was a 40-80h game, I'd probably pass. But it's more like 25, right? Then I might pick it up.

He also mentions Aya is one of the best female character in a JRPG in quite awhile, her relation with Capell is well done, even after the IGN review I was still picking this up but I have to admit doing a small sigh of relief after the 1up review :D

bonus dungeon that takes 'balls of steel' to conquer. 4 difficulty levels. :O

Tri-Ace RPGs are known for their extensive bonus content, and based on my playtime, Undiscovery looks to deliver on that front, offering four difficulty levels and a postgame dungeon that, as the game puts it, takes "balls of steel" to conquer.

The game itself describes it as that? :lol

The 1up review barely made mention of the games story and character development. Anyone got any word on that? It is really hard for me to play JRPGS anymore because i think most of them were designed for 14 year olds. The game looks nice but i need a great story and characters which imo tri-ace hasnt done in 10 years....

They mention enough about liking it, though I agree they don't explain the tone of the story much at all...

Around the same time, coincidentally enough, the cut-scenes began brimming with voice work, and a charming, surprisingly compelling tale unfolded.

despite the badly botched opening segments and frustrating menu and navigational issues, it really won me over with its rewarding combat, kooky charm, and goofy humor. Aya, Capell's spunky, sassy archer sidekick, quickly became one of my favorite RPG heroines in recent memory thanks to witty writing from the localization staff and palpable chemistry between Capell's and Aya's voice actors. The story even succeeds in spite of a glaring quality discrepancy between the major protagonists and the ancillary characters. For every ass-kicking, kickass companion like Aya, you'll have to lug along an absolute dud...like the aforementioned twin-mage brats or a freckled thief boy who wears what looks like a Breathe Right nasal strip, sounds like a chick trying to sound like a guy, and takes his vocabulary cues from flap-mouthed Saddam Hussein of South Park.

Undiscovery's ending also screams sequel possibilities, and I sincerely hope tri-Ace gets a second chance to explore this concept's potential. By the end, I'd grown quite attached to the world and characters, and I wouldn't hesitate to go on another adventure with (most of) them.

Seems to be enjoyable, and leans towards the humorous. If your statement is referring to Valkyrie Profile, then I doubt this will have the same tone or style as it's a lot more colorful and light-hearted, but I imagine it's enjoyable.
