Okay, I know it's been a few years since I've played a jrpg, but this is just ridiculous. I got through the door thanks to Quazar, beat the boss and now I'm stuck in that room because I have no idea how to get out.

Edit:
Got it, okay that was not obvious to me at all. :lol :lol Fuck, I suck.

Heh, no surprise. Tossed IU in to check it out but...US IU is region locked. :/ Guess back to Vesperia for now since I'm lazy about switching consoles. At some point I think I'll cave in though. XD

Nice impressions Error. Hype +10

Shoulda picked this up before I went to work today, but I was running late. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow, but I still have Vesperia to hold me off for a bit.

As for the story, I'll be happy with it as long as we don't end up in 4D again. :lol

Palace, you can fully upgrade Capell's equipment via IC, using Edward forging IC skill. You do need Iron Metal material, which is dropped by the enemies around that area. if you have a broadsword you can also upgrade Capell's weapon

Have you exited Castle yet? You have great options after doing so.

Got it. This is an impression for somebody who hasn't played a lot of Tri-Ace RPGs. Haven't had time for RPGs in the last few years until recently (lost odyssey, Blue Dragon).

The opening sequences remind me of adventure game levels than RPG levels. You complete the stage and if you accomplish certain things during the level you get bonus'. The first few sequences showcase some of the game's systems well I think. I love how well done those condensed tutorial cards are. They explain the systems very well and if you want to look at them again they are in the menu.

You are certainly rewarded for surprising enemies and are punished for being surprised. The combat is fantastic already and I am only 1.5 hours in so far. Everything is so flashy and exciting. I even love the money "jingle" as it hits the floor after kills. it reminds me of Diablo.

Lots of characters get introduced quickly. It seems like there will be tons of opportunities for tweaking character combinations, which is fantastic.

I was expecting the non-voice acted cut scenes so they did not jar me as much, but it was weird. I think 1up's review said that most non-voiced scenes are at the beginning though? Either way, does not bother me.

The graphics and character modes are quite good aside from a few goofy faces here and there at certain angles but for the most part the graphics are very, very good. Much better than what I was expecting viewing the videos. The opening cinematic is classic Square-Enix awesomeness and got me pumped to play the game.

Sheathnig and unsheathing sword and being able to be attacked while in menus reminds me of some MMOs, and it's good. I like the tension of having to find a safe spot to set yourself up to do some housekeeping but some may not. For me, any tension added to an RPG is good because most RPGs lack it at all.

The music is awesome and the voices that are present are excellent. I like Capell's and Aya's voices especially. Very well done VA so far. VA has come a long way quality-wise in the last few years that's for sure.

The camera was weird until I inverted the horizontal axis and now its exactly like the Blue Dragon camera, so I'm right at home. :D

So far I think the game has a ton of potential and I'm looking forward to it. The action nature of it makes me think that this is one RPG that I may actually play through again on harder modes to get that extra content because, once I'm used to its ins and outs, I can really explore what it has to offer and maximize the experience the second time around.

So yeah, only a little ways in but I'm liking it a lot.

- unvoiced cutscenes. shitty shitty shitty. Can't believe SE greenlighted something like this. Although most unvoiced cutscenes are under a minute long, even if they are short I don't think there are any excuses.

You probably already know this but if not, from the 1UP review:

my patience finally paid off. Around the same time, coincidentally enough, the cut-scenes began brimming with voice work, and a charming, surprisingly compelling tale unfolded.

My problem with the unvoiced cutscenes is the inability to manually advance it at your own pace D: Sure you can skip it, but the you'll be missing something important. Also coming off of Vesperia, the framerate really hurts, especially the autoframe skip. Seems so awkward, as if Capelle was teleporting move to move.

I feel pretty overwhelmed now since a lot of characters joined my party.

Sigmund in your party= ATK stat boost for the whole party (except sigmund).

In my 4th hour, I've done the first major mission of the game, and the first major boss (MEAN son of a bitch, too! Those ogres were nothing compared to him). What's the average level at this point? I'm around 9-10's for everybody, and finding grinding to be painful, so I'm avoiding that. Seems like Equipment is where its mostly at, anyways. Really need FAQs or guides for this game to get all the combining done.

Story seems typical, although I'm gonna have to hold off on commenting until I'm done with it. Outdoor maps are LARGE, you can easily wander around for a while until you've got the complete map of the area. Some of the areas are really cool, others are.... well, I REALLY hate darkness just because it's a pain in the ass.

Music is about average, maybe a little above, but I've been listening to Tales of music, so... yeah.

Multiple party system is a brilliant idea, especailly if you're going to have THAT many characters... they seem to be joining right and left.

I think I borked the system.

So, out of curiosity, what's the maximum combo you guys have gotten, because I just pulled off a 150+ combo on one monster, that was giving me +10 EXP every time I landed a hit on it.

1,500 EXP for hitting a monster for about thirty seconds.

I think I borked it.

Really loved the battle system.
The getway in the dark forest sucked hard, but of course, it's meant to be that way. But oh man the chaos and panic I was in
Makes me yearn for Tales to finally hit seamless. Still trying to get a feel for using the connect, and manipulating Aya. Again on the framerate, it really throws me off on the timing of the attacks because its just all over the place.

Sounds awesome. What was the usual experience you'd get from battles in that area?

Fighting Guidos, the wolf-dog things outside of the first major town. They're about 200 EXP, so add on 1,500 EXP, and they become a LOT more fun to take down.

Question about those orbs though. Is it the people who score the hit who get the bonus EXP, or the whole party?

Still trying to find their fur for that one quest.... can't wait for FAQ, not gonna lie, gonna be helpful with the quests.

(For further note: EVERYBODY ON THAT FLESHBITER QUEST:

If you go into the tunnel connecting the two fields together, you'll find a crapton of them, usually fighting a snake. They're REALLY easy to sneak up on, too!)

Hey everyone. This game is actually beginning to pick up after I gave it a chance, and it is actually becoming very enjoyable.

I am stuck in a "desert" and here is my problem:

After you save the little boy, the bird flies off and takes him away. I have tried hitting him with the bow but to no avail. How do I stop it in time?

EDIT - Lol my arrow just magically worked.

Man, I really want this game...:(

What's worse? Having no 360 to play it on, or having a 360 that just RRoD'd as you were playing?

I'm the former...D:

Oh, and Error, thanks for the
even more saddening
impressions. The game sounds great.

So these guys did Radiata Stories...is this game funny? I apologize if this ground has been covered.

Yeah, i thought it had a lot of humor. More than most JRPGs. A few of the boss introductions were hilarious.

Lot of tri-Ace games have exploitable mechanics that can net you some good shit. I'm glad to see it can be done in this game!

Picked it up and watched the intro scene then we had company show up. Looks like I'm waiting until tomorrow to actually dig into this. The intro did really pump me up to play though.

Finally had some time with it...

- The tension everyone mentioned. You feel like there's just no break, and I loved the forest part. It helps keeps you going and it's refreshing in a JRPG.

- Music is truly awesome.

- Combat does suffer from frame problems and collision isn't perfect yet it never distracts me. Things seem to connect solidly and so far everything just feels intuitive.

- Production value seem okay but it seriously dips sometimes. The character models start leaking like crazy when standing in front of a light source. The dungeon was largely unimpressive, though the areas afterwards are pretty nice though. But the character models all seem alright at some angles and downright scary at others.

- Man the English voices are so horriblely sync'd. The characters mouth movement was insanely bad already where just a bit of the mouth moves and the rest of the faces look dead. Half the time they are talking and the mouth isn't even moving.

- Watching your party go absolutely APESHIT over a few measly bees has to be some of the funniest shit ever.

I don't know why I tried to fight the ogre... wasted all my pots :(

the scenario with the crystals=awesome

the escorting scenario I'm in now=not awesome

Symphonic Blade is a really useful skill, but I wish there was a way to know what type of element each character represents :/

Got my first game over, too. ambushed by a bunch of goblin mages plus garudas.

I'm not very fond of the game so far. I'd say it ranks amongst Tri-Ace's worst, such as SO3 and Radiata. The camera is very fiddly and the controls are way too wonky when you need to use a party member's special abilities. Also, not being able to pause when selecting items in the heat of battle is a poor design decision. MMO mechanics shouldn't be shoved into JRPGs just because they can. In an MMO, we put up with on the fly item usage because we have to; in other games we have a better option. The combat slowdown is also distracting, but it does not seem to have much of an effect on the gameplay. Combat strike freezes are a bad idea in Zelda, so it's especially a bad idea in a game where you are hitting 20x as many things.

Also, the VA is a mixed bag, and it's frankly terrible coming off of Vesperia. In the 360 RPG battle of 08, Vesperia is the clear winner here. Infinite Undiscovery is your typical kinda totally broken Tri-Ace game.

Also, whose idea was it to make the tutorials the most frustrating part of the game? Fire them and sodomize them to death.

I am really enjoying this game although I am not too far (save game at 2:20)
just arrived at the castle to help sigmund
. I am finding the combat very refreshing after just recently finishing Lost Odyssey. It's also nice to see your party members following you around for a change :D. The music is also a highlight, and as for the text only cutscenes there seems to be less and less as I progress, most being voiced. After reading some reviews I was rather hesitant to pick this up but took a chance and very glad I did.

Look out fellas, here's another! From Team Xbox.

Of course, if you want the full-meal deal, steer clear of Infinite Undiscovery and look forward to the 360 versions of Star Ocean or Final Fantasy XIII.

:lol Yet another review that seemingly has never heard of Valkyrie Profile as well, as they make comparisons to Star Ocean and Final Fantasy not once, not twice, but four times in their review.

Seems like a strange ending line to give a game that you give a 7.8 to, though. "It's a good game, but don't buy any RPGs until next year."

I'm tempted to cancel my order since the impressions are so mixed but with Vesperia not coming out here for 6 months or so, I might just get it.
