It's probably been discussed, but how in the hell does the connect system work exactly?

I just started and I'm trying to get Aya to shoot the barrels, but it doesn't seem to work every time. I checked the manual, but it doesn't seem to detail it that much. What am I doing wrong?

Edit: Nevermind, I got it. I think I was trying to hold down the RB button to execute. Stupid moment of the day.

So, I'm only 3 hours in but I like it so far. The only "ugh" moments were carrying Aya through the field to Nolaan. It seemed like a useless segment. Oh, and learning the subtleties of ravaging raptor at the end of the tutorial section. I got confused by the need to release RB before issuing connect commands.

I've been digging the hack and slash-y combat a lot (though not as much as Vesperia) and look forward to playing some more this evening. Graphically the game is quite nice but the lack of any believable lip syncing pulls the presentation down a notch.

Music is kickass. I'll need to pick up the soundtrack soon.

The amount of things you have to press just to do anything is a bit overwhelming. Couldn't they have streamlined the controls or is just me?

I hope I got it in the mail today (about to go home from work), I really want to play this for the rest of the weekend. I have a feeling I'm gonna like it a lot, I just know it. That's probably based on the fact that I don't think Tri-Ace is capable of making a bad game.

I agree. I think part of the problem is the need to release buttons and then press new buttons to get stuff done. in battle it can be a little hectic having to release RB to initiate the connect and then press the X or Y button. There's a tendency to want to hold bumpers and triggers down when you're already tapping A and B in combat.

Also, I'd like to be able to sheath my sword even while I'm running. Having to come to a dead stop, hold RT, then press A to open a chest is more cumbersome than being able to run over, tap RT and then quickly tap A to get the item. Or, heck, being able to keep the sword out and pick up items with A. Context sensitive buttons...

Beat Disc 1 last night. Wow what a ride. Vesplume Tower was definitely one of the best dungeons I've played through in a long time. In the beginning of Disc 2, I also liked
how quick the next boss battle was in Port Zala. No crazy dungeon, just straight rush to the next screen and BAM!

Also, Edward
has to be the biggest bitch in the world of all RPGs. Capell's whining (which is funny a lot of the times) doesn't hold a candle to bitchface Edward in the second disc. I just hope there's a battle against him sometime in the near future so I can put his ass in place.

Gustav riding rules.

I haven't noticed framerate drops at all, even when there's 8 characters on screen wrecking havoc. As blim said a couple of pages back; the game has that zelda freeze-frame thingy when you hit an enemy with Capell. Seriously, just run around and do nothing while the other 7 kill shit and the game won't drop at all.

Edward is awesome, stop the hating.

And this game is in desperate need of some way to customize the AI. I got killed by a treasure chest trap, and lucky for me, so did my healer. Now, as I lay there on the ground hoping for one of my teammates to use one of my 20 miracle medicines on me, I realize I had to turn them off because those bastards would waste them everytime someone died while I had a healer who wouldn't revive them using his superior revive spell. Why can't I just have it so "IF EUGINE OR CAPELL DIE, THEN USE IT"? Instead, both Edward and
Touma
stand there and do nothing. 20 minutes of the current dungeon lost, and the long spread out save points don't help either...

This gmae could have been so much better, and I only hope that tri-ace doesn't give up on it, becasue the combat, world, and music are great, but so many aspects are just horribly stupid.

This game picks up about 100% after the awful first hour or so. I was a little down on IU after lugging Aya through a shit storm of fireballs, but the dragon shrine was excellent.

have any of you try enchanting? ATK+500 bonus before a boss fight can make a different, just saying! Not to mention there are tons of neat bonuses.

Also for chests in dungeons I use Komachi to open them, she disarm traps and opens locked chests. I believe Vic can also.

Press the right analog stick. if you have set on Auto, once you kill an enemy it'll automatically target another enemy. pretty useful.

good for bosses that love disappearing/reappearing, too.
Thanks. That helps a lot.

Ricker said:
And to get Rico with you, since the party automatically disbands, well don't tag along on screen with you as soon as you enter the village, you have to go in their House and press RB near Rico to have him tag along again.

Also you can change locked targets by pressing LB.

god that is so unnecessary and just plain dumb.

Quick question, how do you grab those treasure chests that are on top of pillars and other elevated surfaces that are out of reach? Tried shooting them consistently with Aya, but no luck.

Why is there no demo of this game? The commercial makes it look good, and the game play video is decent, and your screen shots are great, but I like to play games before buying them new.

How am I supposed to save the kid without him getting hit by the snakes and bear to get the achievement? Seems a bit impossible. =\

Eventually a character will join your party that has a chain.

And the R click targeting helps so much.

Maybe they're leaning a lesson from the very subpar demos of Blue Dragon and Vesperia.

Both were complete shit. As far as showing off the game, that is.

EDIT: not saying good demos for RPGs can't be made, as they have been before. But the 360 RPG demos have been pretty shit.

They have been :lol was going to get at least 1 rpg for the 360 but the demos of every one I played were horrible, and if there wasn't a demo, then the gameplay just didn't look fun.

Thank ya much. Wish I knew this earlier way back then when I spent literally 10 minutes on trying to figure out which character's chain would do it.

Another question, after I finish the 1st playthrough, can I go back to every place I visted before? Will there be a world map for quick transport or will I need to walk through the whole world again?

BTW this game is a solid 8.0 for me, at least 8.0. GS' 6.5 makes no sense at all.

okay, 6 hours in the game and i'm really enjoying it. the "anything" cut-scenes were really funny heh.

Edward reminds me a lot of Korkus (Berserk), such a pain in the ass....

How do I get to Casandra? they kind of just told me to go there, but I have no clue where it it should be. It isn't like they put it on the map or anything, and Capell can't actually ask anyone where it is, so I'm lost.

It's one of my main issues with this game (along with the lack of save points in dungeons), they tell you to go somewhere, and you have to run around in circle to find the place. Maybe I've missed something somewhere, but damn it's annoying.

Really annoying. It turns out it was the same exact teleporter that was used to get to another area, except now there are two options to choose...how the hell were you supposed to know that? Tri-ace was taught by the Simon's Quest school of game design. It also doesn't help that there is another teleporter that doesn't do anything, and that would be a much more likely solution.

Well I picked this up yesterday. I'm just through the castle/catapult battle.

Man, what a lousy start to the game. I feel really clumsy trying to do basic tasks a lot of the time, and (to quote Garnett) often "feel like I'm playing it wrong".

I'm hoping it picks up a bit more later on... I'll certainly stick with it, but it's not what I was hoping for from the first pick-up of the great RPG crush of '08.

Got this game a couple of days ago, I'm fairly early on in disc 2 right now.
I'm liking it but alot of things are bugging me, the pacing can be pretty bad at times, the game excels when it throws you in dungeons but these seem to be fairly rare.

Right now I just got stuck doing 3 towns in a row with barely any fighting in between....UGH!

And what is up with the npc designs? Why the hell is everyone wearing neon colored clothing? They just don't gel with the surroundings at all.
I think the graphics engine is really good and I love the cloth and hair physics on characters. Those look very convincing and some areas look pretty amazing. Seeing your 3 different parties all fighting and running around looks badass.

I wish it could have been more polished but we'll see how I feel about it when I'm done.

By the way, does anyone know which tri-Ace team worked on this?

This has to be a joke...no way Tri-ace failed this bad at the game. I am at
The final area, and I fought the hardest boss in the game so far, super strong enemies, and two eyeball enemies that took minutes of hacking to finally kill....AND THERE IS NO FUCKING SAVE POINT YET?! What is this bullshit?

Dear Tri-ace, have more save points.

How do you get past the cracked rocks?

So far I'm really enjoying the game.

Big points off for not being able to save whenever you want to. What a serious disappointment.

Hard to enjoy the game that way.

Yeah, so this is kinda weird.

If ANYONE out there is planning to pick this game up, could you please help get me out of a jam and bid on this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260283133614&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT&ih=016

I won another copy of IU earlier today after I bid on this one yesterday. Stupid, I know. My max bid is $41, so if you bid $42 within the next two hours it'll most likely be yours. Please? :D

Sorry 0 feedback no thx.

Umm, I'm near the end and I have a question about someone in my party:
Why hasn't Toumo been attacking enemies? he just stands there, wtf is up with him?

Dear Tri-ace, have more save points.

That is how the Radiata dev team roles. The Star Ocean and VP series have damn near perfect placement, but Radiata Stories had only one in the world at any given time. IU is made by most of the RS people, right?

Alright, I just finished it. 22 hours or so. If I had to give it a rating out of 10, I would give it a C+ or B- with a 'Nice effort!' sticker.

Pro:
Story (More just the world itself)
Music (So great)
Combat
Graphics
Velplume Tower

Cons:
Escort missions
Cumbersome
Stupid party members
Genuinely dumb ideas
Not enough save points
Managing items in battles
Probably the worst start for a JRPG I ahve played in a while
Enemies with too much health and no health bar
Useless counter attack move when a defend would have been far better
Lack of direction
...and others I don't have time to go on about

If tri-ace was to take the pros and model the game after a PSO type multiplayer game with loot, it will be incredibly amazing. So many aspects of the game already seem to be built for that type of gameplay, so I can only hope this was almost a test for it all.

Not the 'best RPG of next-gen so far' I claimed it was going to be, so I am wrong...but I did enjoy it at times.

Just bought the game.

Before I start is there anything of strict importance early on in the game I should be made aware of? You know, chests that I shouldn't open, items I should or shouldn't equip, etc, etc...

Also, should I start grinding right from the beginning?

Oh yeah, which difficultly should I select?

Just got through the Dais. Probably my least favorite area so far. Still, the game is awesome and I'm looking forward to going through it again.
