Inquisitor - Isometric RPG Steam sale gem I just played for 14 hours straight.

I bought a bundle just for this game some time ago. Heard a lot of good words about the story but apparently it's a pretty rough game with huge difficulty spikes. If I remember correctly some people were working on a mod to fix it but I can't find it anywhere
Yeah, the difficulty spikes are tremendous, but I tend to think of them more as puzzles than actual difficulty spikes. Most of the time, it's not that the enemy is unbeatable, but that the enemy requires a specific strategy that is unlikely to be employed commonly.

While we are talking about that, could you please let me in on the secret how to defeat Herbertius in the cemetery? Every time that dude took 100 damage, he restores 107. I tried to lure him away or something, thinking that something helps him restoring it but no luck. I also used my strongest up to 90 damage items, but no dice either.

In the same room, there's a hidden spot that has his heart; grab it and break it by right clicking on it in your inventory. Then he'll die.

Also, just found a strangely mutilated corpse with stuff hatching from her:

Let us do what every normal bypasser would do and stuff her in my inventory.

...

clever.

I told you... puzzles. ;)

And the above is part of what I mean when I say that leveling up combat doesn't pay off in the same way it does with other games. It's definitely not useless. Just... yeah. Thinking around your foes is frequently more useful than forcing them.

Seeing that highly detailed descriptive prose for some random dead body confirms this is just the game for me.

Yeah, I just noticed that that description/picture alone might be a good selling point for some.

Ugh Toma, why do you do this to me (I was actually sold when I saw the first screenshot and got a nostalgia rush)

*buys bundle*

I started this game a little while ago, but I haven't made much progress. I really like the art and how detailed the world is. One thing that really put me off though was how slowly stamina regenerates. It was a bit frustrating that you either had to stand still for a long time or use a potion.

Fuck me, I'm playing Planescape, in-addition to god knows what else, including Watch Dogs. I don't have room on my plate for this now . . .still, this is very appealing all the same. It being an indie effort is all the more impressive. I might buy it, throw it on the mountain that is my backlog.

Edit: Bought, will definitely fuck with at some point.

Haha, thanks for the recommendation :) Absolutely love it.

I started with a bow too and its actually a pretty decent weapon. You can postpone fighting the bats in the beginning by
threatening the guard
, then you go into the city, grab 1-2 companions, stock up on arrows and you are good to go by using the companions as tanks. Its worth investing into ranged combat level 6 for some great bows early, but as will all of the issues here, players just need to find a way to deal with the situation somehow.

Ah, I see, thanks. I really struggled while killing the bats. Playing the priest has gone much better for me right now, especially after postponing killing the bats.

Yeah, lots of potions or you get some stamina regeneration equipment/spell.

Yeah, this is good advice for a new player to the game. Stamina is really important, but stamina regeneration does take a bit of sleuthing to manage effectively. The game is quite unapologetic about how difficult it is (though I think some of this is just the game being intentionally obtuse).

This game has a great story stuck in a small box with bad color choices. I'll love playing it as soon as someone mod that text box.

I wouldnt necessarily say that a bigger box would increase the readability. On 1600*900 at least, not sure whether the box seems smaller at bigger resolutions. Did you try a lower resolution?

Thank you for this thread. I had completely forgotten about this one. Just purchased it.

Likewise. I saw that beautiful text and did not hesitate any further.

The games definitely looks interesting and it seems like something that would be right up my alley. I have to ask though, WTF is Bundle stars? I've never heard of that site before. Is it legit? That deal for $3.00 seems too good to be true.

Plenty of others bought the bundle, so it seems to be legit. And most of these bundles are crazy in content.

I always want to get games like these and really dig in, but I fear I'll just get bored after a certain amount of text. =\

$3 isnt really the biggest hurdle to try, and if all else fails, you still have other games from the bundle :)

This game has been in development for around 10 years by a small group of RPG fans. I heard good things with some caveats, much like the OP, but haven't played it yet. I admit, it kind of intimidates me.

Deservedly, but to be honest... the bundle I linked in the OP is fantastic value overall. If you decide to grab the bundle you still have other games to check out :)

I added it to my wishlist despite the low metascore, since it sounds somewhat interesting.

However, can Toma or anyone else who has played it comment about this?

They suggest that you constantly run out of stamina, and if you run out, you can't even walk (OUT OF BATTLE) at more than a snail's pace unless you are constantly using stamina potions. And, they say there is no wait/sleep/rest option to restore it.

A 100-hour game may be fine, but if it's because you are forced to walk at a very slow speed everywhere, that could get frustrating. :P

Actually I already own the game, there was a local "pay what you want" promo where I bought it for 5 bucks. I will check out the bundle anyway though :)

Sounds exactly like my kind of game, I'll play it when I finish M&MX and DivinityOS, thanks for the recommendation Toma.

I can confirm the bundle is legit. I bought it today and have since activated all keys on my Steam account. Only have played Inquisitor so far.

Liking the game-playing as a Paladin so far. Any obvious/helpful tips to know about magic/acquiring spells early on? Got my two characters now and am level 2 (they're higher).

The game throws stamina potions at you all the time. I havent bought a single stamina potion and still use them regularly to fill my stamina back up. Having enough Stamina potions to work around the massive stamina usage is basically a non-issue. I currently also wear a belt that has 35% faster stamina regeneration, so there are definitely way to deal with it.

There are
books which teach you the other magic schools.
Check the merchants in the city. They also sell spells, if the spell is "bright" in the merchant window, you can learn it after you bought it. Keep in mind that you can only use the spells that you have the proper skills for. Level 1 pagan magic will only allow you to cast the first 3 spells of that magic school for example.

I really like how the game world is so persistent. Going back to a cave littered with tons of orc heads because of your previous orc slaughter is neat:
Or that you can basically drop off items anywhere to save them for later.

What I played of it reminded me a lot of the original Divine Divinity, fans of that should definitely check this out.

Does anyone know what the Inquisitor team is currently up to? Visiting the website yielded no results

I wouldnt be surprised if they did this semi-professionally. You cant do a project like this over 10 years with any decent amount of financial return. They probably just work their normal jobs now, even though the game saw a minor update in may.

Wicked, thanks!

Bought the bundle, eagert to check this out.

bought the deluxe ed, will enjoy when I get off work. thx for the writeup

Post some impressions later or feel free to ask for some advice :)

You had me at "isometric RPG". How is this the first I've heard of this game.

I have no clue how I or most of my friends (even in the Indie thread) never heard of this game either. Really weird, I am guessing the negative voices about this game were too loud so that it never gathered a decent following?
