Have had mine since last wed. Loving the gizmo. Didn't expect to find a purpose for an ipad with owning an iphone and a macbook pro, but it's awesome to have when your in the living room while browsing the next instead of lugging the notebook.

Got a 64gb gold last Sunday after trading in my ipad 4 at bestbuy (nearly cut the price in half with the trade-in credit). I never tried the original Air but this one is quite a leap over the 4. The games I have run perfect, even heavy ones like Nova 3 run at 60fps pretty much all the time. I tried ppsspp yesterday and was able to get Tekken 6 running at full speed even at 5x the res. Not even my Shield or Oneplus One could come close to that.

Unfortunately, whatever jb method is out now is really unstable. Ended up with an ipad not booting up properly so I had to do a restore.

I have no idea why, but I'm seriously considering the gold here. Pics of the Air2 in gold are far more appealing to me than the phones ever were.

The gold actually looks really nice, I'm going to get my girlfriend a gold 64GB LTE in the next week or so

Did you use retroarch when you were jailbroken? I'm waiting for a stable jailbreak first but I'm curious to know if all the cores work (especially psx since it was broken on the a7 devices).

Nope. I installed it but it looks like newly installed cydia stuff requires a reboot and a respring. It's what I did to get ppsspp to show up. Unfortunately on my 3rd or 4th reboot, I ended up with what looked like a boot loop, or not? Holding the power button would sometimes give me the apple logo screen, or a really long black screen. Didn't make sense to me, and even without touching the ipad, the apple logo boot screen would appear then give me a black screen again. Looked like the ipad was having a random seizure so I just restored it.

for those buying at bestbuy, dont forget about mover's coupons. I was able to get my 64gb space gray for $494.99 after trading in a ipad 3 32gb for $185 gc and the $50 off coupon. The mover's coupon took an additional 10% off, out of pocket i paid $344.64 :)

Now to figure out what case to get. Anyone have any recommendations?

This. I didn't have a mover's coupon at the time so oh well.

Also, make sure they print out the $50 coupon. The lady processing my trade-in was having doubts about it at first because my ipad's value was already over $200 but her co-worker told her that I was still eligible for it.

Does the Logitech ultra thin keyboard case for the iPad air work with the air 2? Was looking at the Logitech k430 as a general iPad keyboard that would also work with my Mac mini, but it is pretty big - I suppose it is deep to avoid tipping over when you have an iPad slotted in?

Any other recommendations? I might just use my apple wireless keyboard with the iPad standing up in the smart case, and then get a new combo keyboard/trackpad for my Mac

Wtf why can't I see which best buy stores have a 64 GB space grey iPad air 2

It works for the white 64 GB version and all 16 GB versions but not that one 0_o

Well, time to stop telling myself I'd be able to wait a whole year for a new model. I can't, that's too long. I'm going to order it.

64GB should be perfect. I don't listen to music on my iPad - well, usually I don't - and photos shouldn't need much space when I turn on iCloud Photo Library. Furthermore, I tend to delete apps and games when I don't need them anymore. So, 128GB would definitely be overkill.

Sounds like 64GB is overkill for you too.

Was debating between 16 and 64 yesterday myself. 64 being out of stock made the decision really easy.

The 16gb only has between 11-12gb available after the os is through. The choice between a 16gb and 64gb isn't really much of a choice for any other than those that simply use it for internet and email.

Agreed. I bought my kids 16GB minis and they run out of space quickly with only a few games. Didn't help that the ios8 update wanted 7GB free..

This iPad is amazing. I got the 128GB gold version and it's a major improvement from the IPad 3 in every way. Love the form factor of this thing and it weighs almost nothing. The 3rd gen would become bothersome in this department after a while.

The vibration is quite interesting. Not bad to me, just feels a bit funny how you can feel the flow of sound. When it comes to gaming, its very immersive. It's also works wonders with porn. Now I can feel the moans of carnal pleasure.

Now comes the hardest part: Choosing which Smart Cover to buy. I can't decide between Black, White and (Product) Red. I'm leaning towards the white one, but I'm not sure..

If you equally like them all, go for Red since some money will go to a good cause. I did that for my iPad 3.

Just got a 64gb space grey one in the mail yesterday. Have only played with it a little bit, but the hardware is pretty spiffy. I'm excited to learn my way around it. This is my first tablet and my first iOS device. Hardware feels great, but as someone that's been using an android phone since the blackberry storm, the software is gonna have a bit of a learning curve.

Just a few questions...

- I opened a Google drive link in the email app, and it opened the link in safari. How do I set links like that to open in the related app by default?

- I'm simply being dumb with these passcode settings, right? I don't want a passcode on the lock screen, but I like using Touch ID for going into security settings and doing things involving my monies and app downloads (well, if you're going to force me to use a code even on free stuff...) so far it looks like I'm only allowed to do the latter... Is that right?

- So far all I've downloaded is Comixology, Marvel Unlimited, Alien Blue, Google drive, Dropbox, Evernote YouTube and Pulse. What are some essential apps for an iOS newbie?

- What's the best DRM free comic reader? I don't mind if it costs a couple bucks.

- So much talk of how great the camera is, and there's no Snapchat app?

- The plex app costs money? And it has no reviews...

- Good apps to stream media from Dropbox, Google drive and the iPad itself to a Chromecast?

- I know this is OT but I'm happy to hear game recommendations. Infinity Blade is something I'm supposed to play, right?

- Typing this post on the iPad right now. Feels pretty nice to be able use most of my fingers in landscape, and I dig the way I can split apart the keyboard into a thumb-keyboard (especially in portrait), but overall I find the keyboard lacking. I read somewhere that swift key is buggy on iOS currently, are there any recommendations for keyboards?

I can't decide what case to get on my iPad Air 1. Apple Smart Cover, Smart Case, or something third party?

Assuming the Smart Case is similar to the model for the iPad Mini 2, I'd say avoid it if you plan on doing any amount of travel. The magnet is very weak and it's useless as a stand...

If sleep to wake functionality isn't a concern, I'd say go for the Speck Stylefolio. They look nice and your device feels properly protected. This was the case I was rocking before switching to a Smart Case and I regret not keeping it.

- I believe you can hold on to the link and there should be a "open in..." Dialog box to select the app but I don't think you can set defaults

- you need a passcode in order to activate touchID in case the device is ever reset or has not been active for a long time it will want a passcode. Or if the touchID thing breaks it's nice to have some method to unlock. I do agree it's a little weird for a tablet since it hardly leaves the home, but that's the way it works on the iPhone and it seems they just ported it over. So you're right as there are no other options to have it unlock automatically while still maintaining TouchID

- get an rss reader like Feedly. If you like Instagram I recommend Flow.

- not big on comics but heard good things about Comic Zeal

- Snap Chat seems to lend itself to phone usage. So no official iPad app.

- Plex app was recently updated. It's $4.99. When there's a new version reviews don't show up until there's a new review. However just tap on "all versions" and it will show all the reviews from the past.

- I would say VLC might be an option, but they pulled it from the store and should be released back soon. I believe Infuse 3 has a Chromecast option though

- for games there's Letterpress, Threes, Super Hexagon, Monument, Tengami, Carcassonne

The main reason I bought this thing is for travel, actually. Gaming, comics reading, and watching movies on flights/trains/busses. I'll look into that case, thanks.

No problem. Good luck to you in your search for a case you like. It can be a pretty big headache with all the third party cases available.

Went ahead and went with gold. Looks good. Spec bumps are nice, vibration is noticeable but not really too much of a jump from the old Air but it's definitely there. Won't really effect me for my usage. Screen looks great.

Clips+, Apple Trailers app, Vine, Weather Underground, Overcast, free iWork stuff (if you don't already have it, i.e. Pages, Numbers, Keynote), iMovie, Hyperlapse are a good start.

Comic Zeal is real popular. I have found Chunky to be pretty solid.

- So much talk of how great the camera is, and there's no Snapchat app?
iPad camera has only now been something close to the iphone camera. But Snapchat is available for the phone which means you can put it on the iPad as well. If you are searching in the App Store make sure the filter is set to both ipad and iphone apps.

Playing a lot of Banner Saga, Adventure Xpress, Skullduggery!, Deep Loot, 80 Days, Monument Valley.

Banner Saga, FTL, Machinarium, Final Fantasy Tactics, and soon to be released Longest Journey seem like safe bets for games to me. Haven't tried 80 Days or Monument Valley. I already own Baldur's Gate and Broken Age on Steam otherwise I might consider getting those.

I really want to upgrade my iPad 4 but it's really hard to say it's worth the money. This does seem to be that sweet 2nd gen spot for Apple hardware and with all the trade in deals it's tough to pass up.

I'm finding it hard to justify paying over 200 dollars in difference for a 64 GB iPad Air 2 compared to a 32 GB iPad Air 1.

Anyone else feeling this dilemma too?

I got my Air for $320 refurbished, so $300 difference. There was no way I could even consider the Air 2 after that.

I played with one in the Apple store yesterday and it was enough to put me off. I thought a lot of the responses I saw online was just the usual hyperbolic nonsense but it really wasn't that nice to handle with the speakers only at half volume.

Lovely device otherwise.

I use mine mostly around the house, and when I travel it goes in a padded compartment in my backpack. So I use the smart cover. It has three benefits over the case for me.

- size: it is thinner because it doesn't cover the back
- looks: I think the covered back doesn't look great
- flexibility: if I'm just browsing on the sofa I'll often just pull the cover off to keep the ipad as light as possible. Can't do that with a wraparound case.

People keep talking about the vibrations in the Air 2. It's an issue on the Air 1 as well. How are the vibrations in comparison?

way worse in the Air 2. You can feel it vibrating the bottom half of the ipad on only a couple of bars of volume. It'll vibrate noticably through the screen too, which can be annoying if you're playing a game that needs to keep your fingers on the screen (like Mmm Fingers or similar).

If I have it on my lap with the smart cover folded behind it, then I can't feel the vibrations on my leg so for watching videos it is fine (I usually rest it on my leg or stand it up on the sofa arm)

Damn. I'm impressed that Apple managed to give zero fucks about that issue.

Games is maybe a bit too wide to get into fully right now, you might want to check out the monthly iOS gaming threads Tunesmith does on Gaming Side.

Infinity Blade is OK, the novelty of the graphics will impress you for a little while. Some things I have been enjoying lately - Bastion, X-Com, Broken Age, FTL, GTA San Andreas, Republique, forget.me.not, Minotaur Rescue, Threes, Shadowrun, Baldur's Gate, Rayman Fiesta Run.

Kinda a hodgepodge there but that's what I've been playing lately on my Air 2.

For DRM free comics I use CloudReader. No idea if it's the best one but it's served me well. Plus most stuff on Comixology is DRM free.

I don't find it 'way worse' myself. I usually keep it at around half volume. Eventually I'll have some sort of case and will find it less of an issue.

Hey, thanks for the responses! That'll give me some good stuff to explore when I get off work. I had no idea you could download/run iphone apps on ipad. I saw the words"iphone only" in the filter, and assumed it was only there to entice me or something :p

Bought an iPad air 2 silver 64 WiFi today. First iPad since iPad 2. Was debating between this and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S which looked great but something about the iPad still drew me in. Will be using it for business mostly so I can write it off. Its a beautiful piece of tech.

Dispatched. Will be there by Friday. Nice.

The tracking data is inconsistent, but there's a chance I might even receive it today.

Apple's estimated delivery date is tomorrow. TNT's estimated date is Monday. However, the current status is "Out for Delivery", and the city in that line is indeed the one the cars for door delivery dispatch from.

So my Air 2 had its first crash yesterday. I was closing out of safari, opened up the youtube app, scrolled through my subs, clicked a video, screen froze, flash of white and blue screen, iPad restarted lol.

And the keyboard in safari started freezing for the first time as well.

I had an Air 1 like a month before the air 2 released and returned it since I figured something better was coming. I dropped 750 on a 128 gig air one originally.

Ended up getting an air 2 128 for 679 plus tax due to a school discount. Really glad I returned the air one when I did.

Do any of you use screen protectors? I've always put screen protectors on my phones, and I did for my ipad 3 and my wife's ipad 2, but now I'm wondering if I should bother. The ipad doesn't ever get into a situation where it would be scratched. When it's not in use it has it's smart cover, and it's in a padded carrying pouch I own. Does anyone else use them? I've heard good things about tech armor's ballistic glass. I'd love to hear some thoughts.

Thanks!
