Is Bloodborne the best game this generation?

Bloodborne is 5 years old in three weeks.

Imo it is the best game released this generation. The atmosphere is great, the blood upgrade system is intriuging and the weapons are the best and most fun I ever had with a game.

Pizza cutter in action

I mean dark souls 3 is solid and sekiro enjoyable, but bloodborne reigns surpreme. The random generated catacombs were also a brilliant idea when you were tired of the main map.

Some old youtube clips i found of me playing it.

Personally, I quit Bloodborne after 10 hours or so. Had enough of it to be honest. In fairness, im not a Souls type guy. I did however play and complete Nioh which I loved and easily see as better than Bloodborne. Better combat and gameplay, better story and a protagonist that's preset and actually has voice acting. I fucking hate silent protagonists.

As for the best game this generation, for me, it's The Witcher III: Wild Hunt followed by God of War.

It is all personal preference. There is no wrong answer for your personal Game of the Generation.

Well, unless you picked something other than Bloodborne.

It's up there. I personally liked Nioh better though, and Demon's Souls is still my favorite Souls game.

I wish magic builds were a little better.

I loved Bloodborne personally, and there were so many different types of games released this gen.

Arguably the best action game, but I wouldn't call it the single best game of an entire console generation.

Nah, I'd put Wonderful 101, Xenoblade X, and MGSV ahead of it.

Heck, I also liked Sekiro and Nioh better if we're just talking action games.

It's great but I don't think the best. I'd have to really think about best but I think I'd side on dark souls 3 first.

That and the lack of true build variety.

I got half way through NG+ and dropped it.

If you want build variety go play your JRPG weeb and let me enjoy where FROM took the formula.

muh build variety muh backstab muh pvp arenas

It's always the same complaints.

Just kidding. We'll both get to enjoy build variety in Elden Ring together.

For me? Without a doubt yes. It just blew my mind in every way. However, it was my first modern Miyazaki From game, so I'm sure that played a ton into it. Wasn't the biggest fan of the DLC though. It was still great, but not as good as the vanilla game.

I think that the term "best game of the generation" should not even exist. Because there are too many games (even great ones) out there, so there can't be only one game.

It's all about personal taste but my answer would be no. It's not even the best FromSoftware game this generation.

Are you comparing it to Sekiro? Bloodborne has :

- better visuals
- better lore
- better gameplay (im no ninja)
- better soundtrack
- muuuuch better levels
- better fights
- better bosses
- didn´t die within first few months of release due no
- has PVP
- better enemies
- Bloodborne Theme >>> Sekiro "Feudal Nippon"
- no requirement to parry 99.999999% to succeed
- youtube bloodborne content shits on sekiro (3x Platforms)

I prefer Nioh 1 over Sekiro. No one will ask for a remaster of Sekiro in the next 100 years. People are already asking for a BB2 or Pro 4K patch .... and are still finding, gathering new levels, maps and bosses.

Sekiro was objectively and subjectively not as good as Bloodborne.

Easly the best for sure. The lore is so good, the visuals are gorgeous for a dark looking game, has some interesting non story dungeon(chalice), no dumb kill mechanics, astonishing looking villains(the fight against Gherman is epic) and superb soundtrack.

The game feel more like a piece of art.

Worth noting that GAF thinks Bloodborne is the best in the series at least, with Dark Souls 1 in distant second:

Every single game that has fun mechanics should have something like this or the Bloody Palace in the DMC games where you can just have fun with the game mechanics without being in the narrative. I badly wanted a mode like that for Max Payne 3 because the story mode was such a chore to play through, you spent more time hammering X in a futile attempt to skip the cutscenes than you do shooting people in the face while jumping. Max Payne 2 sort of had one but it wasn't all that great.

Pure yikes.
