The Matrix was ruined with the second, bloated, pretentious, nonsensical movie, and the equally fatuous and overblown third one. This fourth film is just the latest terrible sequel to one of the best films ever made, and a film that really should have been left as a single piece of work.

Truly was. Awesome trailer but shit film. My best mate saw 3 and felt like demanding his money back. I had no interest after 2.

Star Wars is dead?

Anyway, the only thing I remember remotely enjoying from the Wachowskis was Speed Racer. They come up with some neat concepts, though. Wish they would have had someone else direct a main entry.

Yeah, I like them.

Covenant I audibly groaned. Was such a small amount of people in the cinema. Which was great if it wasn't terribly loud. think 3 other people, It was a bad film, just made zero sense for the universe. It wasn't only terrible, it made no sense. Kill everyone at the start of the film. Nice!

Made the aliens origin shite too. Android drops them and kills a planet. A planet of the creators. The deaths of the astronuats are comical though as they are so bad it's funny.

I haven't even seen the movie yet, and I haven't seen any reviews at all.

Yet, just based on the trailer, I'm going to assume that this franchise is about as alive as the Terminator franchise.

Yep.

Or by ‘ruined’ they are ‘just remember the greatness and pretend the others don’t exist’ franchises.

For example Alien is still one of the best films of all time despite the fact Ridley seems intent on ruining it by explaining away any ambiguity or sense of mystery that made it a bizarre borderline cosmic horror and made it so special.

I don’t want to know the origin story of the Xenomorph or the Space Jockey Ridley, as they can only detract from the sense of dread. Fuck Off.

In the year 2021 the Matrix sequels will be declared good. Gotta jump in my time machine and tell 2003 that. Will make some money as comedy.

The Matrix was never a great series, but it was an influential groundbreaking series. There is a difference there. The first one was great. I thought the second was fun too, but objectively, it isn't great. It's a visual spectacle though. The 3rd was pretty bad.

I don't think anyone ever considered a great series, but it did set a style in the 2000's and influenced a lot of stuff with code and reality and free will.

This is one or those cases where I'm completely at odds with the GAF collective. I just finished it, it wasn't as gripping as the first trilogy, and the action was a bit...shaky. literally. But I think the meta-narrative and tongue-in-cheek nature they referenced the canon was a logical choice for continuing the series, and it kept in line with the expanded universe (MxO, Animatrix, etc) Especially keeping in line with the atmosphere the Wachowskis had with Path of Neo. A kind of fourth wall shaking "let's have fun with it," kind of attitude. People who were expecting the wheel to be reinvented and have their heads blown off again were never going to be satisfied and the film preemptively poked fun at that. I think it's the best possible direction they could have gone, honestly. Anything that was referential and regurgitated without doing so with a wink at the audience would just be garbage reboot 2,032. I'm glad The Matrix was able to...free it's mind of genre and sequel constraints. And my biggest fear, that the movie would be a vessel for agendas and politics, was unfounded. The most IN YOUR FACE thing was using a cover of a RATM song by that chick who pissed in some dude's mouth live.

Not even remotely a given. The latest matrix movie would have to be an absolute downright dragging knuckles across the floor shit show in order for it to be put on the same level as Star Wars or Aliens.

And to be fair I have not seen The Matrix movie yet, but it is really hard for me to believe that it is as bad as the latest entries in those two other series that you listed.

This. I don't even think the first movie is that great but it was ruined years ago.

What time is it?
Hard to ruin what was never a good franchise.

Matrix was always only a single good movie

I've come to appreciate the ending of the Matrix more with Neo pulling a Superman out of a Phone Book. While it is still terrible, it serves as a proper warning for what is to come in the sequels.

Let me know when you do.

They're truly are terrible Star Wars films. More so than Aliens. Prometheus I liked despite it being shit. Kinda like how people like Predator 2, even Robocop is bad but was a thrill to watch. Scared the shit out of me as a kid. Acid bit.

For Star Wars, animated series. Boring as hell but Yoda gives the secret of the force. Scene was awesome. Mean the Samurai Jack dude. Those were stunning.

How can you like that the Xenomorph have devolved if you take Covenant seriously? Where they first could spread through air without the need of face huggers that come from eggs. Also face huggers can plant an alien in you in 30 sec while in Alien is was much longer.

Dont get me wrong they jave there issue and i prefer Prometheus over covenant, but I dont think they were disasters. They are no where near as good as the original, but I still enjoy them for what they are.

No, but the further we move from the first movie, the less relevant the series becomes. None of the sequels would be good enough to drive the franchise. Just imagine what a future Matrix movie would be without Neo. Keanu's no spring chicken.

I loved both of them; come at me

I liked Prometheus but you loved Covenant?

That's crazy talk, Covenant was terrible. At least someone likes it though.

Then again the missus loves vampires, Resident Evil films and even that Brad pitt zombie one. She watches the worst shit ever.

There hasn't been a bad Alien movie yet and I actually enjoyed all 9 (yes, 9) Star Wars movies to varying degrees so I disagree completely with this thread that's putting words in my mouth.

And yes I'm very aware of the flaws in all the newer movies of both series.

Oh and I also liked all 3 Matrix movies and will probably enjoy this new one too.

I just don't have it in me to shit on movie sequels. I guess I'm not cool enough.

I will fight with my life to defend 2 and 3 as at least ok movies, but the newest one is a pile of burning trash. A fucking parody of a Matrix movie.

I really hope.they will just give up on making new ones. Like really, don't resurrect the franchise any more please.
