I really hate the terms "woke" and "wokeness". They're just so cringe.

The question itself is hard to answer because it's hard to define "woke" now. It used to mean, for me anyway, hyper aggressive social justice. However, now people pull out the "woke" card for something completely normal like a game having a black or female lead.

There is a long lead, so when woke goes out of popularity like it is now, games take a while to correct.

The publishers will desperately WANT to put woke in it to get those good woke-only loans so they don't have to risk their own money, but I think we have already made that too risky.

The crazy won't stop, meaning the people who for whatever reason MUST insert this shit in gaming will find a way, it will just be a lot more subtle and less likely to drive away customers.

They want to put just enough woke in to ruin the game but not enough to make us not buy it. They are trying to strike a balance.

I'd love to know what put this dumb shit in people's heads in the first place, but at the same time I'd love never to know as well.

The thing is, it's obvious that this whole push was being funded by some nebulous entity, somewhere, with very deep pockets.
The question of whether or not this bullshit is dying really depends on how deep those pockets are.

If devs/publishers are still profitable in spite of shit sales, because they're being propped up by this funding, then no, it's not going anywhere.
If devs/publishers are taking a financial hit now, in spite of the funding, or the funding goes away, then yes, this will be the death knell of force-fed woke in gaming.

And good motherfucking riddance if so.

then I see people complaining about ellie in tlou2 tv show first episode? really?! She was an amazing ellie in first season. give here a break. her acting was fantastic.

And stellar blade is amazing but the costumes that came out after few months after the game came out.. only work for detriment of the game. The game is genuinely fantastic. Music, art, world, story, level design, combat... but all you see is bikini screenshots. yeah I unlocked all costumes of course. It's fantastic... but I played canon costume in main quests. For immersion

edit: If She is a bad looking character (frey)... then idk. There is nothing the devs could do to win here. If her running around naked would save the game? fucking cmon. Where is immersion

Weaken for sure but it'll never die. There would always be those mentally retarded and insane shits in some corner or even in mainstream games which wouldn't be so bad if they kept their insanity to themselves but they'll try to normalize and push it to others. But at least more and more games are going back to the better days now recently where female and male characters actually look like their gender and are made to look good and cool as things should be in the first place. Just hope this continues.

Back to the actual point...
Putting aside any consideration on the choice of terms and the overreactions of people trying a bit too hard to overcompensate, let's just say that at this point publishers are probably starting to get the memo that presenting your product in a certain way may be poisonous for sales.

That's just publishers, though. Developers are probably a different story, given that a lot of them are often WAY too invested (emotionally and not only) in their identity politics to back off.
Especially true for the "very diverse and progressive" teams that were built up precisely to serve this "modern audience". You know, the ones where half are women and the there's a sizable portion of "LGTB community". The ones that incidentally seem to be virtually incapable to deliver anything with an ounce of mass appeal.
