It's been exactly 2 months since Destiny launched - what are your thoughts on it?

Tight and great gameplay. A lack of narrative, character motive, history and lore presented in game really kills the huge amount of potential that I think Destiny had/has. I mean, doesn't the back of the box even say something about epic cinematic storytelling or something? LOL

Seriously though, give us a rich world and story with the ability to explore the world (off the beaten path for more than 4 seconds before auto dying) and the game could become a serious milestone in the pantheon of great gaming titles. Until that happens, it'll just be a treadmill game where you retread a mediocre amount of content, rolling the rng dice hoping for some sort of justification for your time investment. DId I mention the gameplay is tuned really well and the game plays great though?

*edit - Just looked up the back of the box. It says, "...rich cinematic storytelling set in huge worlds to explore."

That description in and of itself may be subjective, but I've got to say, it hardly felt rich or cinematic. The worlds have some redeeming qualities from a design standpoint, but I wouldn't say they feel particularly huge and as I stated before, anytime I try to explore I either encounter invisible walls that literally repel you back to the predetermined area of play or you get a 4 second kill counter telling you to turn around and go back. It's incredibly disheartening.

Haven't logged on since Advanced Warfare came out.

My friends and I will go back for the weeklies as we wait while we wait for the DLC.

Still playing? Traded it in, sold it, or thinking about it?
Done with it until there is plenty of new content but might be pulled back in by my buddies for a spell. I haven't played nearly as much as most here but I still feel like I've wrung every bit of blood from that stone. With no real dynamic elements to the strikes and missions the repetition sinks in so quickly.

How would you try to improve the game, GAF?
Mentioned this in the DLC thread but I'd sell the Raids+Raid Gear for $20 while keeping new campaign and crucible content as free updates. That'd shift the MMO comparisons and value proposition overnight. Raid gear, being the best there is, would still be desired by both PvE and PvP players alike.

Otherwise I'd remove level restrictions and have all fire teams auto-scale while having all enemies scale to the fire team. That way people can choose any planet and mission to play and extend the existing content far more than it allows for currently.

Then I'd redo loot and rewards so that all bosses drop a nice grab bag of loot each time they're killed, quintuple the number of chests to find out in the open world (at minimum), and throw in planetary resources like helium into more drop tables as an uncommon item.

Mediocre as fuck.

Beat the game single player and have ZERO desire to return to it.

Never felt addicted or any need to grind for loot. There's too many other good games to play.

Leveling up to try the raid was really the only reason I was still playing it. Cleared it tonight with a PUG from reddit, dunno if I really want to play it anymore at this point.

Also, my PUG was completely green except for one guy who joined at Atheon and took command of the group. We cleared the entire thing in a little under two hours, figuring shit out as we went. Really not sure if I believe Bungie's "this is impossible with strangers" line at this point, having done it. We wiped our fair share, but nothing was so obscure that we couldn't figure it out.

Meh, probably not getting the DLC at this point.

Destiny is great. Easily the best shooter on console. PVP is skill based which makes it fun, much better than kiddy hand hold cod. Also way more content than most console games, especially fps's.
Story is lacking in game though and the raid is quite good.

Got bored a few hours in. Haven't touched it since. Biggest disappointment of the year. Really shook my faith in Bungie.
Second post nailed it. Put in a solid 7-10 hours on it, was extremely bored two days after release, haven't touched it since. Bungie has lost it.

Destiny and Watch_Dogs are the only games I really regret buying day one over the last 10 years.

To make it even worse, I bought Digital Guardian Edition for Destiny and DedSec_Edition for Watch_Dogs. What a huge waste of money.

It's cool you don't like CoD, but kiddy hand hold?

My thoughts are... I sold it back to GameStop three days after purchase and put the cash towards my purchase of Driveclub. It was a good decision.

You traded it for a broken game? Yeah good decision.

I got DC two full weeks after launch and it still wasn't working. Trading it tomorrow for AC, that's a good decision, or not because I waited too long.

Bought a Xbox one with Sunset Overdrive, will probably beat it and then return the Xbox to get my money back, then get back to Destiny, but will prob bounce between that and COD, but come December, I'll be playing the hell out of Destiny again, because honestly, it's everything I wanted in a FPS rpg

I'm not as addicted as i once was

highly addictive

Highly addictive but flawed game.

But even then, the hunt for the PvP gear was fun and addicting to me.

its so damn addicting, even though i am fully aware of how flawed it is.

Was heavily addicted for a week or two.

I still am addicted but notice its flaws.
People mentioning the game being addictive should watch Matt Lee's video on Destiny:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZXsjd9je3o&t=5m29s

Links to gambling psychology and variable ratio schedule (social, mobile games). The finely tuned feedback and gameplay make the game perfect fodder for being addictive compared to something like Farmville. Are you playing the game or is the game playing you?

About three weeks ago I was playing Clash and a kid jumped in got 2 kills and a 0.36 KDA and got a Monte Carlo. Haven't played since. (Still have yet to get an exotic weapon)

Bungie has lost it.
Millions disagree, if you only put 8 hours in, what does that mean, you beat the campaign? Pfffft come on guy, get with the program and play the rest of the game, attempt the Vault of Glass, gear up or do better research before spending money on fps console MMO's

I love it. I play it daily for a few hours. One of the first games I can say that I have put this many hours into, other than DCUO. My brother and cousin have started playing as well. My brother is lvl 26 and my cousin is lvl 22. I can't wait to take them on the raid. It'll be a lot of fun.

I can't wait til the dlc comes out

I think the pvp is amazing, the sole reason I play.

it's really hard for me to enjoy it because for some reason FPSes these days need to make it nearly impossible for new players to catch up if they don't buy at release.

I'm sure it's decent once you're maxed out on level/gear but it's an uphill climb to get there. And the matchmaking gives no fucks and throws me up against level 29s with endgame weapons, right from the start. Coming from their matchmaking in halo 3/reach it's pretty sad.

I put about week's worth of hours into the game. I even frequented the OT throughout 1-8. After the single pathetic raid got patched to satisfy Bungie's need to tell players how to have fun, the glitches in it got worse and after a bunch of failed attempts at getting the Flawless Raider trophy and sleepless nights, I realized I can't be playing this kind of game. As someone who even enjoys MMOs, Destiny doesn't reward time invested and resorts to RNG when it isn't needed all for the sake of slowing progression. Going from level 20 to 30 was RNG in my favor, and getting weapons was the same but far worse.

Destiny has a great part of a foundation because the shooting mechanics are excellent. The problem lies with how loot is distributed and what little content is in the game. You can easily throw hours and hours at the game no problem, but it's not because you're actively gaining anything. It's because you have to keep doing the same thing over and over again until you get that thing you want so badly, except in this game, little is put in the game to cater toward unlucky folks like a trade mechanic.

The core gameplay is awesome. The content is pretty lacking though, and there is no way I will spend $20 for 1 raid and 2 strikes.

I think they made a huge mistake not making this a larger world game, and making the end game so lackluster. I mean, the big thing they touted for so long was the Vault of Glass, which can be completed in like an hour.

I really hope it's not picking hub missions from a map in Destiny 2. They should expand on it a ton. It doesn't need to be a full blown MMO, but they can do a lot better than what they have right now.

Its an interesting game, you could make an essay about how perfectly Activision, Bungie and Sony handled the Marketing campaign, whats the impact of reviewers on game sales, why some consider the best selling new ip a failure, whats going to happen to the dissapointed fanbase, etc.

Fascinating.

Still play it just about everyday. The days I don't play it are because I'm not home. Slogging through CoD:AW's campaign now but I still log time into Destiny as well.

Started an alt after I hit 30 on my main (with all available exotic armor pieces maxed out for him as well).

I understand the dislike/criticism for this game but I don't think I'll ever get the absolute doomsaying from folks but that's ok. We're all entitled to our own opinions. Loot system could be improved. I'd love for loot tables to be separate for certain tasks/bosses rather than entire RNG (global RNG is fine but needs to be paired with certain enemies/bosses dropping things as well). World bosses could be useful, too.

I feel like there's a solid foundation laid out but Bungie is going to have to build upon it.

My GOTY, love it.
Play it daily. I think the biggest reason i enjoy it as much as a i do is because i have friends to play it with.
Not sure id still be playing without them. An amazing experience with friends.

Yeah no. The game was boring as fuck, and I was so hyped for it. 90% of the thread agrees with me, so there's that.

Still in it until I beat Hard Raid. Once that's done, nothing to really hold me over until the Expansion Pass content comes out.

So glad i did t follow this game till about a week before release. Didnt have any hype to really mess me up.
Might be a huge reason why i love the game so much

I stopped playing about 3-4 weeks ago. Probably not going back to it this year. It would take the dlc being incredible to bring me back and I don't think thats going to happen.

Completely forgettable
Good gunplay

But they forgot to make the game fun
Just a product of marketing bulletpoints

Its like fire and water for everyone. Very interesting reading the comments. I think you guys saved me $ from not getting it.

Great gameplay, addictive setup that had me hooked for weeks. I'm only just now slowing down after finally hitting level 30. More than got my 60 bucks worth.

It just needs more content. Not gonna fall for any DLC money grabs though.

I've played it for 170 hours and I don't see an end in sight. That's more than I've played a console game since probably CoD4 on 360. I don't know what it is about Destiny, but despite the flaws and limited content, it's kept me playing far longer than I ever anticipated. Vault of Glass with other gaffers is probably some of the most fun I've had with gaming in a while. I think that Destiny will only get better from here on out once they iron out the issues.

I do think that for people who don't have a dedicated group of friends to play with, Destiny will be a slog to play. It's not a game you play alone all the time. The game is a blast with friends.

Played the fucking hell out of it for awhile.. then one day got busy and didn't log in.. that went on for a few days.. then logged in and just said.. "nope"... haven't even booted it up in weeks .. wanted to trade it in the other day but my son said he still wanted to play it and I didn't feel like arguing.. he's a big Halo fan.. he keeps thinking Bungie will fix it.. they won't.

In the end, the game left me empty.. it's hard to say I regret the time I had with it.. because I don't really.. but it was empty of an experience as most iOS F2P games in the.. completely and utterly unrewarding at the end. No closure.. no feeling of accomplishment.. just emptiness.

Traded it. I didn't mind that there was zero story. I didn't mind there was not a ton of content. What bothered me greatly was Bungie's arrogance in forcing me to "play the game how it was meant to be played". After I put a good 35 hours in I was out of things to do. This was right when the queens missions came out and it was discovered that you could grind them for ass shards. I was also running an hour or two at the loot cave for shits and giggles to break up the monotony of the doing the same patrols and strikes. Bungie decided I wasn't allowed to have fun playing a game I paid 60 bucks for and that any little nuance I decided to grind for much needed inventory items was off limits as I "wasn't seeing their vision".

Well, so long Dinklebot, it was sorta fun while it lasted.

I got caught in the Hype and bought it Digitally. Worst mistake ever. I was hoping for this epic sci-fi game and ended up with the same setup over and over again. Oh well lesson learned.

Yep, if anything Destiny taught me a valuable lesson about buying into hype and pre-ordering digital (the guardian edition, no less).

I deeply regret my purchase and hate that I have that DLC to "look forward to". I don't even want to bother with it, but if I don't it's $ wasted so I'm sort of stuck.
