All
lesbian sex scenes
are pretty fucking hot. I was a bit disappointed that Jane
did not lose her virginity
but fuck you know Raphael wants a piece of the Jane booty while trying to patch things with the wife. Jane's boyfriend's partner all up in the mix too, what a bitch. I want Episode 4 now, shit.

And the grandma all swooned by Jane's biological father. I felt like some shit about to go down between the two one day. Lol this show crazy.

Ok will it watch 3 episodes before I judge it :)
If the pilot doesn't grab you, then bail out.

The show's special brand of easy breezy charm is everything I need in my life at the moment, but it might not be what you need in yours. It's rare for a show to know itself so well from the outset, but its unabashedly the way it is.

Grrr, pre-empted on the East Coast because of football...

I haven't watched network television in so long that I forgot this was still a thing :-\

Fantastic episode. Easily one of the most charming shows currently airing. Love how it's so over the top, and each episode just continues contributing to that.

The narrator and on screen text are the best new characters of the fall season.
Yeah, it's really working well for this show.

On a lesser show, the combination would just be redundant at best (and deathly annoying at worst). But on JTV, the narrator's snark and text's earnest shock ("O! O! O!") really do elevate the show's jocular mood.

By the way, Raf is a seriously handsome dude. Is Michael really that surprised?

I mean...I dunno. Everything I've seen and heard of the show makes it sound trite as all hell, but with the reviews like that, I might have to try and episode or two.

It's hilarious. Like, half of the posts in this thread are incredulous, mostly dismissive "Is it really good?" queries, as if it's so hard to answer that question for yourself.

The episodes aired to date are available for streaming free right on CW's website

Enjoy.

Watched the first episode with the girlfriend and really got into it and liked it. This isn't usually my kind of show but damn there's so much going on just in that first episode.

God this show moves fast...and I love it.
Yeah, I was originally worried that developments like
Jane meeting her dad
or
Raf learning about the affair
would take so long to occur that by the time they happened, they'd have no impact. Instead, the show's constantly a step (or 29) ahead, and everything happens ever so unpredictably.

The only stick in the mud is Michael - he's so plain in a show full of larger than life characters, and I don't think whatever backstory they flesh out with his shady brother or whatever will make him any more interesting.

Another good episode. How are they doing it, keeping consistently high quality like that? Must be some kind of magic.

I realized I like all main characters. Yes, even Petra and Michael. I'm actually rooting for those two crazy kids to make it. They have easy chemistry in their shared shadiness and I hope they'll get together when the time comes to pair the spares (Jane and Raphael are the obvious endgame). I'm also happy that Raphael is finally showing some character - I loved his little scheme with Petra and her ex-fiancé. Also showing how he and Petra got together was a nice touch - I suspected it went like that, but nevertheless it was fun to see.

Rogelio is so awfully vain, I adore him. The Narrator continues to rule. His comments about the priest had me cracking up.

God, I love this show so much already. Can't wait for the next episode.

I have no idea why I find this show so entertaining. That was a great episode, the moment when
Rafael asked Petra how long she was sleeping with Zaz
was hilarious.

Theory time!

I rewatched the episode and noticed that Michael leaves Petra in the crime scene for a while, to speak with Jane. When he comes back, she draws his attention to the dent on the wall. Do you think she put it there? I bet there was no bellboy involved in the murder at all.

I wonder if I'm the only one who has a hard time watching this show whenever Jaime Camil talks english. I've seen too many novelas.

laughed out loud at that scene. I was chuckling as Rafeal gave Petra damning faint praise about her convincing duplicitous performance to her ex before double crossing him and then I snorted when he revealed he was doing the same thing to her.

Heh, I almost thought they were going to get Michael to do something irredeemably bad with Petra this episode.
How many episodes has been ordered for this season? Standard 22 pickup?

I dunno how you (and my wife) keep track of all these plot developments, Leona! My wife had to remind me about Petra's pre-nup scheme partway through this episode. (Which was another great ep.)

So what was the story with Michael's brother, again?

How did Raphael
find out about the affair anyway?
Did I miss something?

There was a scene in the last episode where she pretended to not know that Zaz had a brother. Then later in the episode, she asked Rafael how Zaz's brother was doing and it clicked with Rafael.

I agree that Michael is bland but I don't like Rafael enough to want him and Jane together in the least.
I hope her love interests get some good development soon. :/

Totally forgot about that, but I thought I had missed him finding hard proof of the affair. Seems like he just put things together and figured it out then.

AV Club just started reviewing this show. A's are pretty rare on that site.

Hopefully all the positive word of mouth makes a difference eventually. The show held onto last week's 0.4 despite the football pre-empts, with 1.01 million viewers.

Gina Rodriguez is just adorable in an endearing sort of way on this show.

I'm enjoying this show a lot more than I ever expected I would and wrote it off from the first trailer, glad I gave it a chance too bad more people aren't watching it. And yeah, the narrator is great.

I finally tuned in up to episode 2. Did not see that ending coming...

Really digging it. Although like with other "Miami"-based shows, it's hard to take Long Beach as a substitute for Miami when no one's sweating and the average temperature never seems to go above 80 degrees.

Gina continues to be the MVP of fall 2014. Her crying nearly made me cry!

This was definitely my favourite episode yet. I'm starting to come around on nearly all of the characters and Rogelio might just be my fave.

Rogelio is amazing. He gets all the best lines.

Love his brand of narcissism.

Well, I watched the pilot / first episode and boy, was I wrong about whether this show would be any good (though it would be bad. It's awesome). I should something in Spanish to close this off, but I don't know the language. Bueno?

Set in Miami, the series will detail the surprising and unforeseen events that take place in the life of Jane Villanueva, a hard-working, religious young Latina woman whose family tradition and a vow to save her virginity until her marriage to a detective is shattered when a doctor mistakenly artificially inseminates her during a checkup. And to make matters worse, the biological donor is a married man, a former playboy and cancer survivor who is not only the new owner of the hotel where Jane works, but was also her former teenage crush.

That old story again?

Wife and I are loving this show. We recognized Rogelio from La Fea Mas Bella from several years ago. I was wondering how he would do in English (not that I'm 100% fluent in Spanish I was just curious how his English would be and he delivers his lines perfectly so that answers that).

I don't know how this show keeps making this absurd telenovela plotline so compelling but it works somehow.

I think it's the genuine earnestness of the heart of the show. Like, there's all these ridiculous plot points (and some too-crazy coincidences, honestly), but it's grounded by these tangible human moments that just feel so achingly real by comparison. When we learn it was her abuela who actually said Xiomara should get an abortion, and the decision that was made by Jane's mom.. it instantly gave so much more profound depth to these characters. The same as what we learned Xiomara did for Jane at the quinceañera, turned what would have been a traditional comic point in any other show into a moment of unexpected weight. It was still funny, but the subtle shift in perspective gave it momentum it never otherwise would have had.

The show is filled with tiny moments like that. And so while the show is uproarious at times and a lot of fun, I think what makes it work so well (most of the time) is that beating heart. Jane is so earnest and tries so hard to stay true to her convictions, but I don't consider her naive at all. I think that's a hard tightrope to walk.

That emotional gut punch in episode 2 just came out of nowhere. Ratings are good? I hope because this show is way too good to be cancelled.

Woah woah wow. I just realized Rose's actress played the girl from Legend of the Seeker. Woah. And she will be a a character on Agent Carter. Holy corset!

Ratings are circling the drain, but it's already been given a full season pick-up and they're filming new scripts, so no cancellation worries until renewal time.
