Yao Ming had five rebounds total tonight. He's like 9 feet tall and he had five rebounds. FIVE. Against OUR frontline of Chris Mihm, Brian Grant, Brian Cook and Lamar Odom (who by himself had 12 boards). Not only that, but he was continually getting out hustled down the court by Brian Grant and his sorry knees.

Where's T-Mac cross over on Kobe? And don't say it doesn't count because he missed the shot, because I remember last year you Kobephiles had videos and gifs of Kobe's cross over on Sprewell even though he missed the shot :p

Yeah, TMac did catch Kobe out high when he came back through his legs, but it wasn't NEARLY as bad as Kobe making Spree almost pull a groin muscle. :lol

Kobe would never try to press up like that out high against a guy like Wade or even Ray Allen; despite TMac's greatness, I've never been too impressed with his first step (weakest part of his offensive game imo, along with his footwork), and judging by how close Kobe played him, he isn't either. :p

They are relative to the PRs (see below):

http://teamrankings.com/nba/

Traditional "Strength of Schedule" measures only average opponents' rankings, which is an absurd way to do things. Over two games, a team may have the choice of playing one great team and one terrible team, or two average teams. A good team would likely take the latter, which would probably result in two wins, as opposed to the former which would result in one. A mediocre team, however, would prefer the first choice, in which they'd likely split, to the second, where they would probably get swept. This is the general idea between my schedule strength listings, which seeks to define a team's schedule difficulty relative to its ranking. Thus a poor team, which has played only average and above teams (but not great teams), will be seen to have had a very tough schedule, while a great team which played the same schedule will be seen to have played only an average one. For this reason, when comparing schedule strength, it's best to only look at teams of comparable ranking. There's an inevitable bias toward the top teams having a seemingly "weak" schedule, and the bottom teams having a "strong"schedule. However, this bias is not in any way included in the rankings - the strength of schedule measures are computed only after the rankings are computed.

Yeah I saw that too. Yao has like zero athletic ability. He was gasping for breathe in the first quarter. I wonder if he will ever get used to the pace that the NBA is played at. Cause he looks so out of shape out there.

Forston calls Shaq out :lol

Fortson fires back at Shaq

FRANK HUGHES; The News Tribune
Last updated: January 8th, 2005 09:04 AM

If the Seattle SuperSonics thought Miami Heat center Shaquille O’Neal was a load Monday in Miami, wait until O’Neal gets word of Sonics forward Danny Fortson’s comments about Sunday’s rematch in Seattle.
Fortson, who guarded O’Neal for most of Seattle’s 98-96 victory that snapped the Heat’s franchise-record, 14-game win streak, was responding to a question about O’Neal’s complaints about Fortson flopping in the game.

Upon hearing that, Fortson issued the 7-foot-1, who-knows-how-many-pounds O’Neal a challenge.

“You know something? That is a cop-out,” Fortson said. “Write this down. If he can’t go out and bang, if he can’t get two or three feet underneath the basket, he is ineffective.

“My goal is to keep him out of the paint. That is not an easy task to do. That is easier said than done. But I am going to try to keep him out of the paint and see how good he is.

“I challenge him to take a jump hook. Take a couple jump shots. I bet you he can’t do that. Of course he is going to complain about flopping because he has to be inside to score buckets. If he doesn’t get inside to score buckets, he might as well give the ball to Dwyane Wade and move back.”

In Monday’s game at Miami, starting center Jerome James picked up three quick fouls, and Sonics coach Nate McMillan inserted Fortson.

Fortson drew a foul from O’Neal while he was going to the basket, completing a conventional three-point play. Then, 69 seconds later, Fortson drew a charging call on O’Neal by flopping, sending O’Neal to the bench for the rest of the first quarter. O’Neal played only six minutes in the quarter.

It prompted O’Neal to complain after the game, “Bill Russell and Bill Walton would be ashamed to watch this game, big men flopping around like that.”

“I don’t even know what he is talking about,” Fortson responded. “He is the big man. He’s the one that wants to go out there and dunk on everybody, like he’s been doing. I’m not going to feel sorry for him.

“He is the biggest man in the world and he’s worried about guys flopping? That is kind of crazy, you know.

“One flop? I only got one flop? Besides that, who wouldn’t flop against Shaq? But for the most part, Bill Walton and Bill Laimbeer and Charles Barkley would be proud of how I went head-to-head with him. Especially Charles Barkley. You know what I’m saying? For the most part I was in there battling with him.”

O’Neal scored 25 points and had 14 rebounds and seven blocks, but Fortson did a reasonably good job on the player considered to be the most dominant force in the league.

Fortson had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the game, but that was not why his teammates called it his best effort of the season.

In the locker room after the game, they pointed out that Fortson, who leads the NBA in technical fouls, kept his poise without getting into personal arguments with O’Neal or bickering with the officials.

“The whole thing about it with me is it’s a spiritual warfare with me,” Fortson said. “It’s about focusing and doing what God wants me to do. I am going to play hard.

“It ain’t going to be no different on Sunday. We are going to do the same thing, and it is going to be the same results. We are going to win the game if we play hard. I am going to try to stay focused like I was in Miami. It’s no easy thing. It’s a work in progress for me. But if I stay focused, it’s like David and Goliath, I win again.”

You can give those clowns 3's in practice and they wouldn't hit as many as they hit tonight.

Other teams have slept on Cook. It's not a smart thing to do. Recognize game.

TORONTO (AP) -- Vince Carter's former teammates were dismayed Friday after hearing him admit he didn't always try his hardest when he played for the Toronto Raptors.

In an interview broadcast Thursday on TNT, network analyst John Thompson asked Carter if he pushed himself as hard as he should have in Toronto.

"In years past, no," said Carter, acquired by the New Jersey Nets on Dec 17. "I was fortunate to have the talent ... you get spoiled when you're able to do a lot of things. You see that you don't have to work at it.

"Now, with the all the injuries, I have to work harder. I'm a little hungrier. Getting a fresh start has made me want to attack the basket."

Many have questioned Carter's dedication, his commitment to offseason conditioning and his desire to improve, but some where were surprised to hear Carter acknowledge it.

"It's a reflection on him and his character," Raptors guard Rafer Alston said. "Is he a guy that you can go to war with night in and night out? That's what a lot of people are going to be questioning."

Alston also suggested that Carter cost the Raptors games with his lack of effort.

"It hurts," Alston said. "I don't know if a player who is considered an All-Star and has so many fan votes going into All-Star week wants to have that on his rap sheet."

Carter has played well since being traded for Alonzo Mourning, Aaron Williams, Eric Williams and two first-round draft picks. He is averaging 22.5 points in 40.3 minutes with New Jersey, compared to 15.9 points in 30.4 minutes with the Raptors.

Toronto guard Morris Peterson was shocked when he watched the interview on television.

"It caught me off guard, being a professional player that's something I always pride myself on," Peterson said. "I can sleep better at night knowing I give it everything I can."

"You could tell he wasn't playing his best," Peterson said.

Toronto coach Sam Mitchell didn't want to talk about Carter.

"That's between Vince and his conscience," Mitchell said.

Oh yeah, Suns are up 23 on the Clippers at halftime. Go Suns.

In a feature story in this week's Sports Illustrated, McGrady admitted that he was so defeated mentally by the losing that "some nights I did slack off" and also "I'm not going to sit here and say I played my hardest every night." McGrady said he did not trust his teammates on last season's team and that part of his motivation in leading the NBA in scoring was to protect his image as one of the league's elite players.

If Kobe had spewed some shit like this, ESPN and the rest of the assholes in the media would have hung him from a tree by now.

I think the media has totally twisted this shit around. VC never said he quit on the team, he was just talking about aggressiveness...

I dunno about Tmac, but I'd like to see the context as well. Why would he come out and confirm what the Orlando brass said about him?

Looks like BSPN has found some new players to trash for a while :lol

Suns win again. Just ridiculous at this point their ability to beat the shit out of everyone. The Clips hadn't allowed 100 points in nine game and the Suns put up 108 on them like it's nothing. They haven't had a single let-down game all season, which is just incredible. Beginning of 4 games in 5 nights here and 6 in 8 nights. If they can win 4 out of those 6 or better, god damn look out.

The Suns have had a few let down games this season. Specifically the loss to the Cavs.

No what I mean is they've only lost to solid teams. By now, almost any team has lost e.g. by 15 to some crappy team. The Cavs loss required an Ilgauskas 3 at the buzzer just to go to OT, it was a close-ass game throughout. Hardly a let-down.

The sad thing is most NBA teams are so futile on the defensive end that they get run over by a "No D, Run 'n Gun" playstyle easily.

Thankfully, the Spurs are the exception. :D

TMac may not have given 100% every night, but he's not saying he was dragging ass for most of the season either. Come on, anyone who saw him play last year knows he HAD to work his butt off. Who else was gonna score? I mean, he won the scoring title last year. That's like saying Iverson doesn't give 100% b/c sometimes he has to take games off, or some games he just doesn't try to the fullest. When you've got a one-man wrecking crew, you can't expect them to produce the perfect result every game of the schedule. I think it's pretty cheap to blame the Magic's problems on TMac when he was the only guy worth a damn on the team. Thank you, G.Hill. The same goes for Kobe and even Steve Francis who got that label sometimes. How to you blame the guy who's clearly doing the most on the team?

That said, Vince Carter is another story. Everyone knows that guy's a bum. Since the first year in the league, he's been spotty and people have doubted his commitment. He'll go buckwild on one team, and then disappear for a few games. WTF is that? The man who threw down the greatest dunk in hoops history has the talent and ability to dominate a game night-in and night-out, but he doesn't, and you can't blame anyone but him b/c he's not producing like a TMac or Iverson. Vinsanity was a favorite of mine, but the guy's fallen off. He can blame injuries all he wants, his bum ass has just plain given up. Hope he can turn it around with the Nets, b/c otherwise he'll be forever be cast in the Shawn Kemp role. A great dunker who eventually became a fatass, worthless piece of shit. :lol Yeah, btw, Kemp was one of my all-time favorite players until he totally fell off in the span on one season. Embarassing. PEACE.

Not a single person posted that the Wizards beat the Timberwolves!

Maybe cos it's not big news (although it is mentioned a few posts up). The Bobcats blew them out the other night and they barely beat the Sixers without AI :lol

The Wiz are what the Lakers are trying to be though. Fast and dangerous. Damn, I love watching those guys. They better just pay Hughes and keep their chemistry...

Oh and the VC/T-Mac stuff is starting to irritate me now. Why must everything be blown out of proportion? Even if they did dog it (which is putting words in their mouths), EVERYONE slacks off at work. Remember, hoops is their job :lol

Yes but people are paying good money to watch these douches play.No one gives a two shits if joe blow working in a supermarket doesnt do his job, except for his boss or fellow workers.

Plus these guys are making millions to put a ball in a hoop.....I'm sorry but they have no right to not show up every night and give 100% effort.

And if you're a fan of a TEAM (Stick with me here Konex), and the best player on your team admits that he didn't try his hardest when he played with you, and now, after getting his wish granted, and playing for a new team, he does....it kind of pissed you off. In the case of me, really pisses you off.

McGrady admitted to Sports Illustrated that he didn't always play with maximum effort last season and that he chased the scoring title only to protect his image around the league. McGrady was traded to Houston in June in a seven-player blockbuster deal.

"I like Tracy and wish him well in Houston because underneath everything he's a good kid," Davis said. "But he shouldn't even think that way (about the scoring title). It's foreign to everything that you're supposed to think about.

"When he says that sort of thing there's no amount of money or anything that can ever repair your character again. What he is basically saying is, 'I don't care.' I think highly of Tracy, but it's just sad to hear those types of comments."

Asked if he had read the article in which McGrady said he didn't always play hard, Magic general manger John Weisbrod cracked, "This just in, huh?"

WTF was Tmac thinking saying this shit.

Also this just in...Wesibrod is an ahole still :D

That article's stupid. How do you chase a scoring title and not help your team? TMac didn't even Kobe the ball last year. When he tried dishing off, it was brick city. If TMac was dragging ass on the Magic, then there are A LOT of players around the league who have now become suspect, b/c last I remember, TMac was the Magic. Yeah, I'm a TMac whore, but this is just fucking stupid now. PEACE.
