Japanese Music (Pop, rock and all 'dat) |OT|

I got Oblivious and Shine and I'm addicted to these two songs. If you guys have any more recommendations, please tell me. You guys have amazing taste. :D
I'm glad you like one of Leo's songs. Check her other songs since they're are quite good and addicting to listen to. Her first album is coming out the 24th so if you like her other songs, be sure to support her. :D

Also, thanks for quoting that song by Gackt. I found another song I like.

Some more songs:
Yuna Ito Let it go:

I'm surprised Yuna Ito wasn't mentioned much in this thread. However, she hasn't made a new single in 2 years.

I know some people think Orange Range became bad when the drummer left but I'm not one of them.
I really liked orcd and Neo Pop Standard.

I liked them up through World World World. Not really a fan of their sound after that. Sure doesn't help that they're practically indies now though. Hard to tell if they're even active anymore.

They released a new album this year, Neo Pop Standard.
Japanese still like them even though their CD sales are kind of low now. When I watch things like Rock In Japan or Countdown Japan the crowd is really pumped up.

Following this thread has really gotten me into 8otto, who kind of sound like the Strokes used to (and I love them for that). Gonna try out some of the other bands mentioned over the last few pages, too!

Their sound engineer used to work with the Strokes.

New band of the day: 6eyes

Currently I was looking through their history since they haven't bloody released anything in long time and lo behold they had an Album released the end of last year which is called ''Flush''. I had to get at once, and yes, they are the same old 6eyes i fell in love with, except that its a bit on the short side an don't have a track that is 10 min. long. Anyways, what is this band? I am glad you asked because if there was a psychedelic/funk revival, it should have done in the same vain as those guys are doing with all those releases. If I would describe them: I would say its a band that have a method within a madness they tend to create within their music, from the way the main vocalist appear to be drunk in his vocals performances to the whole stumbling while mumbling some incomprehensible words. The whole music have a serious funk to them with some distilled sound down into a razor sharp post-punk laser, while at the same time they've managed to highlight their simple yet infectious melodies. ''Blank in Black'' sheds the fuzzed-out guitar rock in favor of focusing on the raw and tight sounds. The songs are also more rhythmic, almost dance oriented, which makes them all the more irresistible, albeit quite dark. Almost goth-like at times.

They have released 3 albums, and they are quite enjoyable on their own right. Flush is much more take on their whole 'early 'Supercar'' image they tried to create and one that should be owned f you are that type of person who is looking for more enjoyable, yet experimental psyche in your music.

Also, Maminka from Czecho no Republic Is bloody amazing!

Yes, really solid album.

About 9mm Parabellum Bullet.
I have to say that their latest album Movement was quite disappointing.
But I'm LOVING this new single. I think they have the same problem as The Back Horn.
Their previous works were so good that it's really hard for them to top that.

Damn this thread is dead :(

Anyway, I have changed my Avatar since BYEE the ROUND is releasing a new Mini-Album so I thought maybe they would be an apt band to do an introduction on.

3Znqf.jpg

Having formed in 2003, they have remained underground until they have exploded into the indie scene in 2009 with their Mini Album ''Give me Chocolate''. After that they have been going on from strength to another. And they were, especially, the indie darling in Japan last year as they have released their self-titled album, which was magnificent. So what type of music do they play and why did they end up to is this poplar... relatively speaking of course? Well, their sound is not focused within one genre, and their play is really varied and mixed within the rock parameter. Their Progressive style of varying tempo and rhythm is tangled with screech noise of the guitar. This mixed with guitar melodies of Blues and the rhythmic progression of Garage, they have established a new way of playing music. However, let us deflect the main reason why this band has been regarded as the next big thing. The elephant in the room is the vocals of Kota Matsuyama. His screaming, shrieking, melodic vocal which varies in tension, emotion and tempos comes out as a powerful drive for the music. This is strengthen by the themes of the lyrics as the band does not shy away from asking some of the bigger questions about human society and behaviour within their lyrics. Themes such as Lust, perversion, loss, and contempt, the hopeless part of the human eye are all explored, while the minus sing a little cynical, and dangerous there, giving off a love and also essentially Voice.

Really appreciate the comprehensive updates you guys give in here, Kurita and Faridmon especially.

I've been out of the Jrock/pop scene for a second now, and this thread has made it so easy to jump right back in. Loving Mudy on the Sakuban, and BYEE the ROUND atm.

You're welcome, I'm always happy to make people discover some great J-Rock bands.
Mudy on the sakuban might be my favourite instrumental band at the moment. Been listening to them for... 4 years I believe.
Pavilion is such a great album.

I've yet to move on to Pavilion. MUDY IN THE SQUALL has had me absolutely hooked, it's so good.

I wish I liked Instrumentals only. I do like some bands here and there, but generally speaking, I tend to stay away from bands who are Instrumentals.

It's actually funny that you mention 9mm in connection to MUDY. My first impression on MUDY was '9mm without their horrible vocalist', which is fantaastic, as I've always thought 9mm to be one of the more instrumentally sound bands out there. Just can't come to think that the vocalist does anything but bring them down.

I'll have to get on that immediately. Thanks!

E: te' is also right up my alley. Good god. So much new music.

Hi all, do you have recommendations for sites that sell Japanese iTunes gift cards? The prices differ widely but I do not know which are reliable.

Kurita

I have no idea. I'm interested in buying some too since a lot of things are not available on my iTunes store.

Cheapest site I've found that's legit:
http://www.japan-codes.com/
Send codes usually in like 5 hours for me.

I'm just a lurker, but I can vouch for this site as well. I bought a code from them a few months ago (used it on a whole bunch of Chihiro Onitsuka stuff) and they sent it to me within half an hour of my order.

Thanks! I was looking at that site earlier and it is nice that they sell some of the larger point cards since iTunes Japan's pricing is rather steep compared to the US's. Good to know that they are reputable.

S/mileage is my least liked hello!project group but this single is fun
Berryz Koubou >>>>>>> Buono! = S/mileage >>>>>> Morning Musume = °C-ute, that'd be my personal ranking.

But sadly Berryz' upcoming single (their 30th one no less) blows. And it blows even more that it'll be released just after the glorious cha cha SING.

For me it would be
Berryz Koubou > C-ute > Momosu > S/mileage

Mind posting the Berryz single? I actually wasn't aware of it surprisingly

EDIT: Found it. I'll hold judgement until the actual studio recording comes out but I think I like it.

I've never been able to get into any of the groups that came after Morning Musume (who have made a nice turnaround lately).

Of course the best girl group is SPEED! New album next week :D

Frome the new Nintendo Direct thread

20:29 XING and Nintendo co-developed karaoke software Nintendo-JoySound Wii Karaoke U.
20:30 Over 90,000 songs, purchase tickets for certain lengths of time during which to use.
20:32 Business-level quality at home. User settings. Regular karaoke videos, Mii performances.
20:33 Use the built-in mic or use the Wii U mic accessory. Bundle with Wii Karaoke U trial disc.

I wonder how many of them would be J-indie? I guess none. I think ONE OK ROCK and Maybe Fujifabric will be on the service. NUmber Girl and Supercar?
They could go further and put ART-SCHOOL and Oblivion Dust there as well. What do you guys think?

anyone here know the status in Japanese Karaoke? Do they have J-indie amongst the selections?
