Let him make what he wants. Smith making movies literally doesn't affect you at all, if you don't like them, you never have to engage with them past seeing a neogaf OT for them. Not like they'll be mass marketed.

I'm shocked he hasn't made a similar deal as Adam Sandler with Netflix, and have all his future stuff end up on there.

Sandler is huge. He has millions of viewers to Smith's thousands.

Yeah, Smith doesn't really translate outside his established fanbase, but especially not in non-Western countries. I work in various African and Asian countries a couple of months every year, and Adam Sandler (and stuff like Mr Bean) is huge there.

We all look down on Sandler's sense of comedy, but his lowbrow sense of comedy is something that anyone anywhere in the world can understand. There's nothing to get lost in translation.

The Jay and Silent Bob movie was great

But I also saw it when I was like 19 so a new one probably wouldn't be nearly as funny to me.

That's true. But they've shown themselves to be niche-friendly, so I figured there would be something at least!

I'm in for this. I haven't liked his latest movies (really anything since Clerks 2), but I'll definitely see more of his old characters (other than that hideous looking cartoon).

Shame about Clerks 3 and the Mallrats project though. The gleeful corny stupidity of Mallrats has grown on me over the years.

Fuck it. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was hilarious. I'm more in for this than any other possible Kevin Smith sequel.

Damn some of y'all are some downers, let the man make his dumb self absorbed movies. I haven't actually watched anything of his since Miri but I'm down for more View stuff. I was actually thinking the other day how dumb Strike Back was and how hard it made me laugh as a teen, wondering if by any chance if he did a sequel could it end up decent. Probably not, but I'm in!

I'm all in on this and I think it'll be dumb fun. I'm admittedly probably the target demographic as I saw the original in theaters and bought the DVD the first chance I could.

Disagree. I think it's still a great movie.
He's talking about Cop Out, Red State, Jay and Silent Bob's Shitty Cartoon Movie, Tusk and Yoga Hosers. I agree with him, although Red State was okay.

I was obsessed with the Askewniverse growing up, and still listen to his sobriety podcast with Jay. Was looking forward to Clerks 3 and Mallrats 2, also. I'm not going to let myself get excited for this. Been let down too many times now. I don't think this will get made, although I'd like to see it happen.

Smith has a good thing going with his podcast and his very dedicated fanbase. He should really just stick to that now. I genuinely loved Chasing Amy and Dogma but thats about where he runs out of things to say or interesting ways to say them.

I will say that watching/listening to him tell stories just on a mic is great, his Prince story is really really good, so is his Bruce Willis story, it's probably why his podcast does so well. Too bad that doesn't translate into his films.

Zach and Miri Make a Porno is very underrated. It's his last film I really enjoyed and my favorite Justin Long character by far with only 2 scenes in the movie.

Jay and Silent Bob was a bad movie that great comedians had good scenes in. The best parts of that movie had little to do with Jay or Silent Bob. I'm not sure it could work again.

So it never started filming? I just hope nothing was lost.

Don't think so. I know he confirmed people like Stan Lee and Shannon Doherty returning when it was still a film, and mentioned finding the mall for shooting, but doubt they even got a pilot in the can for the TV show.

edit: This is the most recent thing I could find:

http://www.slashfilm.com/mallrats-tv-series/

Smith still plans to shoot at the Exton Square Mall in Pennsylvania he stumbled upon last fall, but there's no indication as to when production might begin or just what we can expect from the series. If anymore details surface, we'll be sure to let you know.

I've listened to his podcasts, watched live appearences, skimmed through his events, and cringed my way through his latest movies.

We need to stop giving this man money. He only wants to entertain himself and clearly no one else and he wants other people to pay for it.

I actually like how he comes across as sincere whenever he speaks, be it in a public forum or on his podcasts, but I think this is an accurate assessment that never really occurred to me before.

He seems very self-satisfied with his own brand of gross, utterly juvenile humor and is usually baffled when nobody else gets his work.

When he gets stoned (which is way too much) and makes conceptual or referential jokes, he can be pretty fucking funny. But none of his humor or very odd visual style translates to anything of worth in film.

Dude should have been a comedian or something instead. He's great at telling stories when given a live audience.

Edit: He also has a very strange, bordering on gross, obsession with poo (and poo jokes) and buttholes.

Who are the 2017 versions of Jason Biggs and James Van Der Beek?

Josh Gad and Tyler Posey?

Also Kevin has had the worst luck with film projects getting canned/changed to TV shows and canned since Hit Somebody. I wonder if he'll ever forgive Seann William Scott.

Mallrats 2? What the fuck is a mall?

I'm kidding (sort of). Just think of the wacky hijinks they could have gotten in with the dozen old people and increasingly vacant storefronts that characterize most malls these days.

Red State could have been his return to form, but he just lost it again afterwards. Now he's going back to that well that had run dry years ago.

Tusk was certainly a disturbing horror film. I don't know what the hell Yoga Hosers was trying to be.

I'm wondering if Moose Jaws will still happen. I can't imagine that failing.

Yeah I quite liked Tusk, but it really fell apart in the final third. Basically when Depp turned up. Red State was solid throughout though.
