Jez Corden: Playstation Pulling Back From Releasing Their Tentpole Single Player Games on PC

Would not be surprised if true considering the Steam box. PS has legit competition but it still won't change my stance on my Pro likely being my last console (unless the kids want a PS6).

Makes sense, when did last last release/announce any big ports?

Steam Machine and Xbox Magnus aren't direct competitors, but it's not a good image having Sony's AAAs on there.

Fully expect GaaS games to continue being multiplatform going forward though.

Nvidia DLSS making PS5pro PSSR look like shit.

They risked their ecosystem for some shit sales.
MS died doing this, Nintendo thrives not doing this.

It would even be better to officially announce it and never look back. What an idiotic strategy that was...

They were never releasing day and date anyways. As the financials show they make easy money off PC ports years down the line so why would they stop this? Smells like more FUD from Corden after saying literally the opposite earlier this week. Mans a class A hack.

Bloodborne is getting better and better in emulation all the time. Sony could have pushed out a HD remaster (not let Bluepoint ruin the artstyle and atmosphere) and made bank, but that window is just about closed. They can take their SpiDEIrman and their Horizon and fuck off as far as I'm concerned. All of the Sony games I'd want on PC are already years/generations old, so this doesn't personally bother me at all.

Now if they considered Gravity Rush, Motorstorm, Warhawk, Driveclub (60+ FPS), Tokyo Jungle, etc. Then we'd be talking.

I feel the same way. The good news, I bet the PS5 generation will play pretty much all AAA games for the next decade. The cross-gen period is going to be crazy long

I actually don't believe it. But what is true is that their PC (and GAAS) strategy since 2020 is a failure. They are now making less money from first party on 2 platforms than they were doing on one platform (PS4) just before PS5 was released. And they were doing much less investement back then, even "flops" like Driveclub or Day's Gone have actually been super profitable in the long term. This is really tragic what is happening at Playstation. And this is not the market talking as third parties are mostly having a great success those last few years, but certainly not Playstation games.

At the beginning of PS5 gen the PS4 sales were muddying the waters but now even an intern should notice it.

I can see the cope in people wanting it to happen, especially because it feeds into fanboys wanting their box to have toys the others kids don't get...but I just want Sony's output to overall be better, and stop wasting resources on live-service flops.

It's getting to a point, where it's just 1-2 games a year from their collection of studios that I have even passing interest in per year, and I hope Yotei is a sign of them at least controlling budgets.

They are making less money now selling 2 version of the same game? Where was this said

Smart move. Even if they do release on PC they should make them exclusive to a Playstation PC Store at the very least for a year.

Wolverine.
And Intergalactic.
Tentpole single-player games being platform exclusive at launch was never not going to be the case.

As I've explained before, the *entire* premise of first-party is to serve as brand-identity leaders for the platform. Because if they were looking purely to maximize direct revenue return they'd target the widest audience possible.

If a game is multi-player or service-based then naturally the calculus changes because titles like that live or die based on engagement numbers, so the priority becomes to open wide with MAU as a KPI, because the assumption is within any user cohort there will a hardcore of "whales" who will contribute disproportionately to the overall revenue stream.

In a single player stand-alone offer, essentially every sale made is of equal value. So opening "narrow" then going "wide" in terms of addressable market makes much more sense as its a value driver to the host of the "narrow" distro channel through FOMO and brand identification.
You are correct that's how things used to be. So tell me, if one can finish Wolverine or Intergalactic via streaming, 20-30 hour or whatever games, why would they buy hardware?

Stellar Blade??
Sorry which games? I haven't seen many of them lately
Herman Hulst said one or 2 AAA tentpole games every year. He would love to release a Horizon game every year plus something from others.

Nah, it's better than DLSS CNN model but still quite a bit behind transformer
Quite a bit would be FSR3 compared to DLSS. Nowadays, the difference is largely academic.

Agreed. Its going to be wild to see how well Pro ages compared to OG PS5.

Sony are just thick when it comes to this.

Releasing their games 6/13 months later on pc with some half assed port that runs like shit is why their games don't sell well on pc.

If they released the pc version actually working it would sell better. If they released it in the launch window it would sell even better.

Pc gamers aren't buying ps5s to play Sony games - and once you miss the launch hype they've already moved on to something else.

That guy is really something. "Sony is doing A," two days later "Sony is doing B." No matter what happens, "See, I was right." In my opinion he's just an attention-whoring troll anyway, and people, especially here, give him way too much attention for some reason.

Whether this report is true or not, I have to imagine that Sony is at least debating whether they should keep putting games to Steam. I think they are smart enough to consider Valve a competitor.

Playstation games going on PC day and date would have never made sense and I never believed that rumor.

I mean, you're risking Console sales. Majority of PC players who 'have to' get a Console wouldn't bother if the above was the case.

The optimal approach depends on the stage of the console life cycle imo. I would not be surprised if they pull back from PC temporarily when PS6 releases, to encourage as many as possible to buy the console, only to move back towards being PC friendly later.

Tsushima did very well on PC. If they think eg. not releasing Yotei or Astro Bot on PC is going to make a significant number of PC gamers go and buy a PS5 at this stage, they are dreaming.

At this points its about trying to convince people to not jump ship.

Isn't Bloodborne on ShadPS4 running better than the original PS4 version these days?
Unavoidable shader compilation is a far worse experience than the poor frame pacing 30fps original experience on PS4.

The nicety of 60+ fps is completely ruined by the shader compiling.

Hey, say what you want about jez but at least he has it in him to retract or contradict himself and admit he was wrong, unlike a vast majority of other journalists who will never admit they're wrong and just try to gaslight.

Nope, FSR4 is a giant step from FSR3 but let's not downplay the advances they can still make

FSR4 is known to sit somewhere between CNN and transformer. This doesn't prove anything- FSR4 is very close to Nvidia's solution.

Just 3 days ago they announced the PlayStation monitor and combined with the speakers and headset for PC compatibility with a setup with a connected PC on a desk.. they would change strategy just because of the gabebox announcement?
lol I don't think so.
It's not like the industry didn't know the gabebox was coming.

But hey if they leave then bye bitch ! They refuse to actually bring the games we want anyway. They can keep fairgame$ too

I thought this was fixed. Or maybe I am just lucky, since I haven't had a lot of trouble with shader compilation.

Jizz: PS is going day and date with pc releases
Jizz 5 minutes later: PS is scaling back their pc releases

Lmao this clown just says random shit hoping something sticks.

They've been saying it without actually saying it if you listen to the investor meetings and quotes from the past 6-12 months..

At the 2:20 mark Hulst spoke about single player tent pole franchises off console and being thoughtful "how" to play them off console or "if" they'll ever take them off console..
