Jez Corden: Playstation Pulling Back From Releasing Their Tentpole Single Player Games on PC

Gotta love two completely conflicting statements from the same person back to back.

They don't necessarily conflict. Live service games could come day and date while the single player centric games (Astro Bot, Ghost of, Death Stranding 2 etc) stay locked as PlayStation exclusives.

If Jez is actually correct here (lol), that would align with my speculation that Sony will start to become more wary of PC releases once their competitors are vying for the PC-as-a-console space. Valve are making moves with Steam Machine and the next Xbox will follow by allowing Steam game installation.

PC ports on the side were fine for Sony up to a point, as they weren't intruding directly on their console business. But Sony are not going to want to continue to feed content which can theoretically be used to funnel people away from PlayStations in the living room (and its ecosystem).

It is a dumb strategy implemented by dumb people. Sony needs two things:

- Real exclusives.

- Real GOOD exclusives that don't take a lifetime to release.

And, of course, fire Hermen Hulst and a few others at SIE.

I guess they do not want to seppuku their hardware business afterall ...

Next step.. good single player exclusives , new ips and good games for your target audience.

Enough with half assed sequels done by purple hair and cucks.

It only makes sense.

There is one line that annoys me, when he claims that "it would be better for the players" if they released multiplatform.

That's the misconception, if they become a full multiplatform publisher they will have more incentives to behave like EA, Ubi and Activision... We will not see them trying to attract gamers to their platform with clean and honest games.

The quality of Sony first party games has been a complete joke this generation

Frankly, I dont give a shit if they release the games on pc or not at this point

Eventually the PC as a hardware build (SFF, USDT, desktop etc) is just going to absorb all these companies and games in the home will be done on what's generally a personal computer of varying sizes.

Some people take this guy way too seriosuly, he is allowed to have an opinion based on what he hears. Thats all, he doesnt seem to be stating facts or be 100 % accurate, which is perfectly fine. Its just his opinion based on what he he hears.

Reminder Jez knows shit

I am old enough to remember a State of Play where they announced a 1440 p monitor and speakers with PC compatibility

They are embracing the PC
There is a surprising amount of people who play PS5 on monitors, I even remember when the talking point was that PS5 can't support 1440p while Xbox could lol.

That speaker set is mad weird tho, like it's battery powered for some reason lol.

This gen made them realize they can sell a ton of consoles with barely any exclusives.

Microsoft are so fucking dumb that they let go the home console market by putting their games on Playstation, which is going to kill any hardware presence they had. Sony then becomes the only choice for a proper home console (there is not direct competition between Sony and Nintendo, not a lot of overlap in their respective markets), so they don't even have to supply exclusive games, and this generation demonstrates this well. That's because third parties drive the sales here (always have on PS) , unlike on Nintendo consoles. Maybe it was a revelation for them, and they didn't expect it ? Maybe they were planning it.

They are going to become a platform making their profits on subscriptions, services, royalties just like Valve on PC, and the console will be the entry point, which they will mass produce to mitigate loss. In this context, putting their games on PC makes little sense, they will want to drive sales of their consoles and services that bring people, and developers into their ecosystem to make money from royalties. They are also competing with cloud and TV recently, so they are going after a piece of that cake from Microsoft.

They might have put some games on PC to lead Microsoft into getting out of business themselves, a carefully laid out trap, wouldn't be surprising. In any case, Microsoft have totally failed here while Sony were lucid about the situation.

Biggest shame in all of gaming, Technically we were over the age of exlusives apart from Sony blockbusters and now they may not release at all. And the reasons why its such a shame:

1. I remember when Astro Bot won GOTY and a lot of normies on tiktok who wanted to try it were complaining about not being able to play (a ridiculous concept to them and rightly so).

2. And I blame the region block thing that Sony implemented right before Ghost of Tsushima (the game I was expecting to finally blow up). On PC, you need hype for crazy numbers and that region block completely shifted momentum.
TBF, Stellar Blade did blow up and removed region block but its not an internal Sony game so I don't think it changed much apart from the removal of region block on other Sony games (too late, main games had already been ported).

3. If playstation ever starts getting adopted in China, that would move needle far more than exclusives ever could. Plus, Sony will soon be only 'core gamer' console now that Xbox is going so exclusives would have mattered even less.

I play 99% of my PS5 games via a monitor, currently testing this new LG 32" 4k OLED with a glossy screen and I love it

That said people generally aren't going out looking for a new monitor for a PS5 and land on a 1440p screen

This new display is squarely aimed at PC gamers who also own a PS5

Sony are just thick when it comes to this.

Releasing their games 6/13 months later on pc with some half assed port that runs like shit is why their games don't sell well on pc.

If they released the pc version actually working it would sell better. If they released it in the launch window it would sell even better.

Pc gamers aren't buying ps5s to play Sony games - and once you miss the launch hype they've already moved on to something else.
True. We all know videogames basically live by marketing, streamers and hype.
The sale window is a month or so.

Doesn't really matter how good your game is nobody gives a fuck after a year.

I said the other day, the only time I ever believe anything Jez says is when he has bad new about Xbox. That's because it pains him to say it. Everything else is just engagement farming when it comes to controversial takes and predictions.

Sony didn't buy Nixxes and create PlayStation PC LLC just to just abandon ship this quickly. The next game that makes sense on PC will be Death Stranding 2. I expect it will be on PC next year.

Realistically, both things can be true. There's no way they're going back to zero, since every GAAS game is basically save on day one on PC. But the next Xbox and the Steam Machine could still steal some of PlayStation's audience. They're also trying to get back into handhelds, which is a super competitive space. It'll be interesting to see how they convince people to buy those new devices, because one thing is certain: they won't be subsidizing them either.

Anybody who keeps listening to that idiot deserves every bit of whiplash they get from his inevitable backpedaling.

Tbh they release 1 great game per year they have now 7-8 Studios capable to make a sp game. If they don't bring to Pc I Will never play their games again because I'm not buying a Playstation ever again.

Stop making sense

That's not the problem here. The problem is he just said that Sony is going day and date or some shit like less then 2 days ago and now is backtracking.

He's just another twat that wants attention on the internet.

He is delusional, Sony first party games make now almost as much revenue outside PS (most in PC) than in PS, and Sony is working in their own PC store and launcher.

Sony also stated multiple times that PC is a platform with a huge ROI for them (all their tentpole ports have been profitable) and that instead of cannibalizing console sales PC is helping to grow their console userbase's with new players. The active userbase of their console is at all time highs.

What Sony could do, pretty likely at the same time they release PS6, would be to start releasing all their games, including tentpoles, day one on PC PSN, their own store. And maybe with crossbuy with their console version. And to stop releasing their own games on Steam or Epic Store, or maybe to release them in Steam & Epic a couple years after releasing then on PSN.

did anyone from Sony actually state any of this, or were these kinds of things just said by the oustered Shuhei Yoshida in his interviews after he had already left Sony? I feel like a lot of the blame for the current state of PlayStation is down to his decisions. I mean, VR was his baby and look at the state of PSVR2

Folks are free to state their opinion on his takes as well. When the guy makes two statements that directly contradict each other mere days apart then people are rightfully going to point that out. He doesn't mind because this all contributes to his engagement farming at the end of the day.

Smart move. Even if they do release on PC they should make them exclusive to a Playstation PC Store at the very least for a year.
I really doubt they would release a PSN. It's a fact PC gamers don't want even login to PSN to play games. Why would they skip Steam for PSN? PSN prices are higher on many games, Sony would have to lower the prices in both PSN for console and PC. And what about PSN+? The excuse for the online paid is because the cost of servers, how they would explain the PSN for PC don't have that cost?

Maybe they dont care if you don't want to use it. Like how Activision didn't care whether you wanted to use Battle.net to get access to Call Of Duty and WOW and Epic doesn't care whether you like Epic Store or not to get access to Fortnite.

Yeah, but should we expect anything else from Jizz? This guy is one of the biggest retards in gaming "journalism".
Jez may not claim to be a journalist but his relentless dedication to chasing down the truth proves his true journalistic credentials. I find his humility utterly remarkable in this day and age. How many people in his position admit to their flaws and pledge to do better?
