'Jump' for joy - Lords of the Fallen 2.0 is nearly here

It's a patch. There is a sequel in the work, but it's pretty obvious that it's a patch.

The amount of work they've done on this game is amazing. I got it at launch and it was rough, but jumped back in when patch 1.6 dropped and got the platinum. It was really good and I enjoyed it a lot

As someone who was extremely satisfied with version 1.7, I'm confident that 2.0 will be even better. Definitely give this game a try, especially if you're like me and tried version 1.0 but didn't really enjoy it. It's basically the Dark Souls 4.

In these times where From Software has shifted toward multiplayer, this company has a great opportunity ahead. I'm especially looking forward to the second game. I think it'll be released within a year or two.

Will that mess with any balance for encounters etc?

No, to be honest. Don't see how it changes anything. Maybe in the alternate world(Axiom) it can probably help with precision when needing to do some tricky jumps to get to hidden areas. But it's cool their adding it I guess.

I just wish the game could have released in it's current state. Because the release version and current version are almost 2 different games. If it released as it is now, it would have gone down as one of the best souls-clones available.

Cool. I got this game for Christmas two years ago and it unfortunately got shafted into my backlog. I finally started playing it a few weeks ago and I'm having a good time with. Glad I'm mostly experiencing the "complete" version.

This game has been on my radar for a while, and it's good to know that they've improved the quality of the game since its release. The first LoF, despite its limitations, I ended up enjoying.

I had this game on my XSX for 6,7 months and didn't play it more than 15 minutes. Last night got +30GB update to play the game before leaving Game Pass (maybe in 2 months) and now saw this! lol
So maybe I should wait for the patch.

Will probably jump in on this once it drops (assuming a sale will accompany it)

We have Dark Souls at home

People, don't be like Ritsumei2020 😁, Lords of the Fallen is one of the best souls-likes out there at the moment.
It's unfortunate that it released in a poor state but, after patch 1.7 i can confidently say that - again - it's one of the best games in its genre.

- Enemies that actually react to your hits.

- Nice, "heavy" and solid feel when hits connect (this got fixed apparently with the 1.7 patch).
Also : they fixed/changed the weapon sounds when a hit connects.

- Amazing, Grimdark art-direction, the artists really went to town with this one, it's like Bloodborne x 10.
Atmosphere so thick that you can cut it with a knife.

- Amazing sense of exploration that rivals FROM titles (i shit you not).

- The lamp is not a gimmick but an actual mechanic in that there's literally 2 worlds stacked on top of each other to which you can change freely whenever you want.
Not only is it very cool tech-wise but it literally makes the whole exploration bit even better (not to mention more complex).

- One of the best looking UE5 games on consoles (on the Pro at least), poly count and visual fidelity are top notch (shit looks CRISP).

Played both Wukong and Lies of P this year but Lords of the fallen is the one I enjoyed the most.

I went in expecting absolutely nothing and came out actually impressed, plus, It's dirt cheap nowadays so if you're into souls-likes you should definitely give it a try

Once I got used to the somewhat clunky combat, I really enjoyed this game.
Played it at release and didn't have any issues I can remember.

We're now celebrating the ability to jump 10 cm. Is this already bottom or still not yet?

You Dont Get It Over Your Head GIF

I can't tell you how shit I think the first is, but I'm a sucker for an underdog with a comeback story. I'm tempted if this is a NMS situation.

To people who say this is on par with From or that this is Dark Souls 4: what are you smoking? The game was mid as hell and all its new ideas fell flat imo.

Good basis to build upon tho, so I expect their next game to be good.

My main problem with this game was the abysmal enemy variety. After some hours playing you've basically seen everything the game has to offer when it comes to the enemies, especially in the umbral realm.

One thing I didn't like about Souls-like games is the lack of jumping so this kind of has me sold.

Going to give this a try had it on release and was meh, but all the glory talking has me interested in the improvements! I guess 2.0 will justify the 20.00 increase in price that's coming ? Thanks Nintendo!! :)

Maybe it "was" mediocre as hell, it's not anymore.
Which were the ideas that fell flat in your opinion ?
PS: have finished most souls-likes out there (and especially all the FROM ones) and this, again, it's one the better ones IMO.

The abysmal enemy variety has been fixed via patch.
They even put new enemy types.

I really want this game now. The developer really seems to support it pretty well and I seem like cool people all around.

Nice, I might have to start back, I've put off playing it for some time. I loved the first

Really? Is this recent? Because if I remember correctly I played when patch 1.5 came out and it added some optional roguelike modifiers, but the enemy variety was quite bad still.

It clearly has potential, and I might be willing to give it a try again if they truly fixed enemy variety.

Not sure if this is a patch or the sequel, significant because you couldn't jump in the first.

I'm excited to give it a playthrough. I never got around to it.

Of course, now I need to wait for 2.0. Hopefully that doesn't take forever to come out.

It's definitely worth playing now. Well, I guess at launch it was also good but buggy, unbalanced and not overly fun, but they've reworked the game so much and for the better. As I said earlier, it's a pity it didn't launch in it's current state, but as with modern day gaming, we get unfinished products at full price now.

But the devs turned it around and now it's a magical experience, it runs great as well.

Sey, let me put it this way, out of all the problems this game has (which are almost zero), enemy variety isn't one of them :

- Dingy dungeons have skeletal/undead type of enemies.

- Castle-like levels have knights/guard dogs etc.

- Town-like levels have different type of knight/warrior enemies.

- Church-like levels feature more...religion themed enemies (think Blasphemous).

- Snow levels feature more Norse looking enemies (Berserkers etc).

- The underworld features its own enemies (4-5 types).

- The Rogar race is comprised of another 4-5 different enemy types.

I don't know the state it released in but, not once I thought while playing "shit, this game needs more enemy types !", it's on par with a FROM game now.

Talking about the game's "problems", I only found 3 :

- you can hear when the music starts looping (not a big deal)
- enemy lock-on is not the best (there's 3-4 types to choose from though).
- there's some MINOR stutter when the game loads a new area.

That's it, the game is In a very good state right now and a showcase for the PS5 Pro when it comes to GFX.

When I got my PS5 Pro in December I installed LoTF again(already had the platinum). And damn does it look freaking sharp and tidy on PS5 Pro. And it's not even using PSSR, so I ended up doing a short NG+ run again till up to the Tower Of Penance. Game looks and runs so well on PS5 Pro. Damn now I feel like replaying it again but I'm busy with Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 now, and I still have a massive PS5 and Switch backlog to work on

Man, i know I sound like a broken record, but, I can't emphasize enough how good this game looks on the Pro, resolution is C R I S P and it runs buttery smooth 99.9% of the time.
Couple that with a high poly count AND fookin' AMAZEBALLS art-direction (I also can't emphasize enough how good the art in this game is) and it's literally one of this gen's best looking titles.

Shit, putting it side to side with - say - Lies of P and...there's really no contest, P looks like an uprezzed PS4 game (or, a FROM one 😁) while this...this looks proper next-gen, you know, the reason why we spent 500-800 Eurodollars for these plastic boxes.

If you enjoyed the first Lords this one is better by several orders of magnitude.
The first game was pretty crappy, but it was one of the first crop of Souls clones when they started to appear and I did enjoy it enough at the time.
The "reboot" improved the game drastically in every single area. It did have a few issues at launch but the post suppprt has been phenomenal, and I give major props to the devs for that.
It the sequel continues this trend we should have a real banger on our hands.

I second this post.. Im a huge Souls Fans .. imho Lords of The Fallen is a great souls like experience ... better than Lies of Pi .. I did multiple runs on LOTF for the platinum and different builds...did only one in Lies of PI.

With Fromsoft doing some strange choices lately and the fact that I really didn't like Elden Ring open world mechanics, having at least one dev capable of getting the Dark Souls feel is great.

Opinions and all .. I liked LOTF more than Elden Ring as a pure dark souls - like game.

When you come out of the cave and this is the area you walk into, it looks so so so good. I remember screenshotting like crazy. Shame and the poor (failed monk), if you follow his questline it's very sad

I started a save earlier this year and went pretty deep, then I paused because I got hooked on Elden Ring. It is a very solid ARPG, I am planning to get back to it after I finish Khazan. It doesn't break any ground but it does everything quite well.

I played up to a point in this a while back. When 2.0 hits I'll definitely fire it up and finish it.

Did they ever patch in making the blacksmith guy at the hub easier to get? I seem to recall reading they did but I also remember that early on you could miss him or something along those lines.

Once you find her ('bout 2 hours in), she teleports and stays in the hub 😉

Man, they must have patched this game from the ground up ffs, what am I even reading ! Missable blacksmith ? LMAO
They must have really rushed this thing out if the door 'cause after all these fixes it sounds like a whole different game...

PS :The side quests on the other hand...all of them are obscure as fuck (think FROM type of bullshit) and actually missable 😁

I may be mis-remembering, but I swear the blacksmith was either missable, or very hard to find/unlock. Either way, glad to hear you find her 2 hours in and she stays put :messenger_grinning:

I dunno how people were missing the blacksmith, she's kinda on one of the main paths. I think it took me considerably more than 2 hours to get her, but I have old man skills so that is hardly surprising.
The npc questlines are very much From Flavor, expect to miss a ton of them without a guide unless you are insanely thorough.

Once 2.0 drops I'm gonna do a caster run, haven't messed with magic at all yet in this game.
