Saw the table cloth thing coming as soon as he sat down but the nonchalant way he goes about it reaffirms Raylan's bossness.

Yep. I said, "I'd pull the tablecloth." To an empty room, but whatever.

Great episode, though I'm not sure how I feel about the neutering of Wynn Duffy. I also love Neal McDonough, why is he not big yet?

The fact that he refuses to shoot any sex scenes is probably a huge factor. Dude's a great actor, but that would be pretty limiting for series work.

I'm not quite sure why it's spiritually okay to shoot someone in the face, and also a woman, but not to portray someone having sex.

cool premiere.. is that the last of quinn?
From a Yost interview with EW:
Q: I loved the character Fletcher Nix. Is he dead, or could we see him again?

A: He’s not dead, because according to the rules of film and television, you only die if you get shot in the center of the chest.

Q: This was the right side, I noted.

A: It was the right quadrant, it was up more toward his shoulder. So he’s technically still alive. He’s just in our quiver. We have no plans to use him again this season, but Desmond did such a great job. If we can figure out a way to bring him back, we’ll bring him back.

EDIT: By the way, here a Deadline article on Neal McDonough's no sex on screen policy from a couple years ago.

Finally caught up. Great premiere, can't wait for next week. I dreaded Quinn's character but actually quite liked him. Shame there's no more.

Anyone notice how much Nix's hand was shaking when he was holding the gun throughout the episode? Wonder if that's part of his character, or if Quinn just has shaky hands.

I don't know. I think doing that would discount a lot of his arc with Art. I'd be really sad to this show turn into a Gunfightin' Spectacle after it took so many pains in S2 to show Raylan's attempts at avoiding it and Art's incredible summation of where it's taking him.

"...and pretty soon our little problem will just solve itself."

Fucking brutal.

To turn away from something like that would basically kill the show I love. I really hope yours is not a prevailing opinion the Showrunners are listening to. I guess we'll see.

So true. And I think the gunfights would lose their gravity if there were a lot of them. Besides, I enjoys scenes where there's tension, regardless of whether they end up with someone dead. And there was plenty of tension in season two.

They did that super well in this episode. Shooting for sure but really tense not BLI-BLA-BLAM-BLAMM-BLAM-BLAYYYMM

It was set up really well. You know it's not gonna happen, but they plant it in your mind like "man, how fucking awful would it be if Raylan got his brains blown out all over his front door."

But he's fine playing someone who quite possibly molested a child (Terriers)?

In any case, finally found time to watch it, and just such an amazing show. Hopefully the ratings stay solid so it can continue for many seasons to come.

Question: is the season promo worth watching? I want to be even more pumped up, but want to avoid any significant spoilers.

Heh, you have no idea what's coming, Devil:

Show is sooo good.
Love the dialogue; so happy it's back.

"Sorry about your tablecloth"
SO BAD-ASS

Also spoilers for season teaser
Boyd and Raylan working together again? Yess.

Great premiere! I did feel that the ending stand-off (sit-off?) was a bit contrived, but I still loled so hard when Raylan pulled the tablecloth :D and at Boyd in prison, smart play :D

So glad it's back, probably my favorite show on TV.

"Hey Boyd?.......You shoulda worn the suit"

Wow wow wow wow. Holy fuck that was incredible. Already loving everything about the set-up for this season. They wisely have gone in a completely fresh direction. I love the new villains. Neal McDonaugh brings such a sophisticated menace and I was rather pleasantly surprised with Desmond Harrington's work as the equally menacing but completely unhinged Nicks. The thought of Boyd, Dewey Crowe and Dickie in prison together is tantalizing and I can't wait to see what happens there. As always, the writing and performances were absolutely top notch and I love all the character relationships and interactions. I found Tim chirping at Raylan to be especially amusing. And GOT. DAMN. at the move Raylan pulled on Nicks. He may not have read his file before he met him the first time, but he obviously did before the second meeting. That was slick as hell.

Gonna be another incredible season of my favorite show on television!

That episode was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, so glad this is back i was grinning ear to ear with excitement while watching.

Team Winona here screw the haters - lookin at you A/V club review.

Almost done with my S2 rewatch, Mags is so magnificent. When she was asking Raylan if she could see Loretta....damn.

I wonder if all the money she made stays with Dickie?

Oh yes, exactly my thought after I finished watching the new episode. I hope they have done a lot of scenes inside the prison.
Loved to see Neal McDonough, excellent cast choice.

I just watched the first ep of season 3 and man Desmond was great as that dude. Too bad they make him look like shit in dexter.

Living in Montreal effin' sucks. No FX here so I have to wait tomorrow night to watch it. And I know I won't be able to resist lurking in this thread tomorrow at work, too.
