Kickstarter: Divinity: Original Sin 2 [Over, $2 million funded]

Ugh... tits and gore and cursing with two and a half times as many votes as extensive mod support? Twice as many for new races? 25% more votes for romances?

Extra gore could be cool, add a little extra visceral touch to the magic attacks.

Where is this being talked about it? Would love to see funding get us a wide variety of death animations and effects. Honestly, I think the game is going to be more than big enough, so hopefully the money is to add nice details like this and polish.

What they had in D:OS was actually pretty decent. More death animations for melee and physical attacks.

Game could use a wider variety of weapon types with various benefits and drawbacks.

It is like a crowdsourcing DLC!

Well I am not complaining, thank you for buying me DLCs, kind strangers!

Whenever people talk about adding gore or 'viscerality' to combat my mind, horrified, snaps back to God of War. Don't do this, Larian.

And also disregard your polls. My preliminary data
does not exist
suggests that the polls were manipulated by a group of special interests, and, thus, do not represent the interests of the majority at large.

There's a difference between GoW over-the-top gratuitous violence and having magic attacks and melee strikes decapitate/dismember/explode enemies

Imagine the possibilites for enemy types too, like a creature that grows a deadly new head if decapitated or removing a monster's movement points because it has no legs

Manipulating the games systems to break it in half was a huge part of the fun for me. I love doing crazy nonsense like that.
Yeap, that was one of my favorite part of the game and its pretty awesome to have that kind of freedom built into the system.

Their last Kickstarter took 12 days to raise 400k.

This is great example of a proven company using kickstarter successfully multiple times.

It's also a stark contrast to unproven companies that try and go to kickstarter again, such as Uber and Comcept. Basically if you have done what you said you are going to do and delivered a good experience, people will most likely happily back your next game

Right alongside InXile and Harebrained.

You get the game for $25 so if you're going to buy it anyway you're actually saving money.
Think I might have to up my pledge before the campaign is over, really want to check out the first game

Backed.

So worth it after the first game, fantastic game that deserves a sequel and by the sounds of the video it will be awesome with friends.

I have the original game so I will get enhanced for free But if someone doesn't have the original game the $50 pledge for enhanced edition an the sequel is amazing value imo.

I didn't even get to play the first one yet but I backed this earlier while at work, the price is right and people seem to absolutely love the first game - respect to this company.

Haha sorry but to me pretty much everything you describe is the FUN with D:OS!
Just like old RPGs. Free systems that allowed you to do fucked up things. Making you go wowww wtff? There are enough streamlined and sense-making games out there.

I enjoy breaking games too, but I don't really like it when it feels expected. I like it more as a work around type of deal.

It didn't really feel like that in DOS, it almost felt like sloppy at times because of it.

The recognition Larian's received for Divinity: Original Sin is nothing short of awesome. They went from a little-known Eurojank dev to one of the most prominent RPG developers in the world with but a single game. That game changed everything--Early Access, the RPG genre, Kickstarter, and of course Larian themselves, showing exactly what can be accomplished when you use those services with the right mindset. All-in-all, a really amazing feat, one that this second Kickstarter is proving.
Chris Avellone stretch goal, where are you.

Maybe he'll write one of the romances.

Y'know, I'm really curious who the composer will be for Divinity 2.

Some of you might not know that the Divinity series' composer Kirill Pokrovsky (this dude) unfortunately passed away earlier this year. He was an incredibly talented man and there will be huge shoes to fill for this new game.

So any chance they'll discount the first game to give people who don't have it yet a chance to catch up?

The enhanced edition is coming out with tons of changes AND if you have the original version you get enhanced for free so I doubt it will get a permanent discount. That said it has been on sale more times than I can remember during Steam sales.

Gonna back the $90 option so I can get the 4 copies for me and my friends. Normally hate playing rpgs coop, but alot of the stuff sounds really fun and interesting this time around, and knowing my buddies, they probably wont wanna pay full price at retail for this.

Woohoo! Funded!

Yeah, it looks like the Bioware fans came out to vote in droves... God, I hope Larian just ignores them because it's like people have never played a Larian game before. They aren't about blood, guts, tits or romances. The Divinity games have always been more laid back and goofy.

I don't have any issues with that stuff (it's pretty much staple in the Witcher series...), but it should only be done if that's what Larian wants and not because people voted for it. Adding something to a game that goes against everything about the Divinity games just to please people who may not even played them just seems like a recipe for disaster.

Give me mod support/new races before considering Adult Mode/Romances. Honestly, anything else on the first page would be preferable - even if it was only for Co-op and I only play games solo.

How long was the original game?

I always like how it looked, but damn RPGs can be way too long
Lengthy, it takes a good while just to figure out all the systems and all the possibilities it gives you to do things. Think my first play-through was nearly 60 hours and I didn't do everything (well you can't) in the first run through.

Depending on how you play it can be a long game. It personally took me 97 hours, and I still had a few sides quests I didn't do (i'm gonna go back).

I looked at Sinatar's time and he has 60 something hours, a few other people I know like have 70ish. It really depends how quick you finish the first area. I combed that first area multiple times and completed everything I could. Co op could take you a while, easily up to 100 hours.

First update's up:
Kickstarter Page
Funded by people with good taste!

Look at that!

You are all amazing!

Who would’ve predicted that a pitch built around adding extra dialog options & origin stories to a complex RPG would be capable of mobilizing so many people so fast? For RPG developers like us it's like a dream come true. You are allowing us to create deep complex RPG experiences that we love to make and we're so very grateful to all of you!

Where Divinity: Original Sin took 12 days to reach its funding goal, Divinity: Original Sin 2 was funded in less than 12 hours. Nobody at Larian, except Eric that is, could imagine that we would meet our goal so fast and now that we’ve reached this point, we’re incredibly motivated to take D:OS 2 as far as we can.

Thank you!!!

Since things went a lot faster than we anticipated, we’ll need a little bit more time to prepare our first big update, but rest assured, it’s coming.

Our Pax booth will be great, but we still have a bit of work

We’re currently in Seattle, prepping for showing the D:OS 2 prototype at PAX Prime (Booth #6011, Level 6), and our best case scenario was actually that we’d be talking about what’s next near the end of the show ;)

But you’ve caught us of guard and showed us there was an even better scenario. We’re very happy that you did!

As a little teaser for PAX, rumour has it that we found a cosplayer who'll be doing the rounds as a wood elf. We haven't spotted him yet but once he pops up, we'll be sure to share a picture with you.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 in the press

Prior to launching our Kickstarter campaign, we've been showing Divinity:Original Sin 2 to the media, and a lot of impressions popped up today.

"I can't help but think that another Kickstarter success could help make Divinity: Original Sin 2 one of the most engaging RPGs to date." - PC Gamer

“This sequel has some wild new ideas and ambitions far beyond the scope of the already-impressive first game” - Polygon

"It’s exactly what I wanted from a sequel" - Rock Paper Shotgun

"If successful Original Sin II is poised to shake up not just isometric RPGs but the whole RPG genre" - PC World

"Divinity: Original Sin 2's narrative is fuelled by dizzying, twisted multiplayer" - Eurogamer

We've also invited the RPGWatch & the RPGCodex to our offices, and they did extensive write-ups.

Finally, if you speak German, French, Russian or Polish, you may want to check out these hands-ons: PC Games, GameStar, JeuxVideo.com, Igromania.ru, Gry-Online.pl

Thank you!

We'd also like to extend a big thank you to our fellow developers who gave us a shout-out today - Harebrained schemes, inXile Entertainment, King Art Games & the Aquanox Team, you guys rock!

In closing - Have a look at take 1

For the last couple of days the hardware gods have been pretty harsh on us, cursing us with broken laptops, hard drives and burned ...things, and they continued their curse today just as we were filming the big moment. Here's the footage as it happened, but you'll notice we had quite a few problems :)

That's it for today. We'll be back tomorrow with more, stay tuned. A lot more is coming your way!

I'd hope that'd not be a stretch goal -- given it was one for the first game and they lamented not getting it in. Should be baseline for this one.

I agree! I'm surprised that they haven't even mentioned it, though, and I suspect that they're focusing on the other new features instead. Might have to wait until the game after Original Sin 2!

Just got home from work so I haven't been able to read everything, but I just keep seeing "PC."

Should I assume Mac as well as Windows? That's how I played the first one, but I actually don't see it confirmed anywhere and I try not to get my hopes up.
