Kickstarter: Divinity: Original Sin 2 [Over, $2 million funded]

Huh, I guess Larian really wasn't prepared for this sort of response.
[...]
Where Divinity: Original Sin took 12 days to reach its funding goal, Divinity: Original Sin 2 was funded in less than 12 hours. Nobody at Larian, except Eric that is, could imagine that we would meet our goal so fast and now that we’ve reached this point, we’re incredibly motivated to take D:OS 2 as far as we can.
[...]
Oh, Eric.

Personally I want a day/night cycle similar to PoE/BG2/Planescape, nothing too fancy but makes areas more immersive.

It was weird not having it on Original Sin, but after a while I didn't even notice, though.

Manipulating the games systems to break it in half was a huge part of the fun for me. I love doing crazy nonsense like that.

Agree. RPG of old were full of things like that too. Who didn't cheese BG2 with a Kensai/Mage equiped with the Celestial Fury at least once? It's
fun
.

So awesome that this was funded so quickly. I do hope that they don't get rid of the lighthearted fun nature of the Divinity games though for grimdark serious writing. I thought Original Sin was a breath of fresh air as far as not taking itself too seriously (but still had some powerful moments and stories).

We also just added the update video as the Kickstarter update itself went up a little prematurely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAr3SSMx3XY

We were actually recording the update video as we reached 500.000 but just about everything broke down at that very moment. It's actually pretty hilarious and we'll share that soon enough as well.

Edit: got beaten to the punch there

Funded in 12 hours? That's fucking awesome!

Congrats to all of you! Cant wait to see where this all goes.

Great to see it funded so quickly but they proved themselves with D:OS, so the response is well earned. Looking forward to a steady stream of update videos from Swen, the guy's awesome.

Depending on how you play it can be a long game. It personally took me 97 hours, and I still had a few sides quests I didn't do (i'm gonna go back).

I looked at Sinatar's time and he has 60 something hours, a few other people I know like have 70ish. It really depends how quick you finish the first area. I combed that first area multiple times and completed everything I could. Co op could take you a while, easily up to 100 hours.

Co-op taking over 100 hours? Dude regular SP can take you 100. Like you said it's how fast you take the game, but everyone I have on my friends list who completed it hovers around 90-110 hours.

I'm waiting for the big patch to hit so I can restart my playthrough.

Backed for 2 copies for some good old co-op fun. Best TB combat system ever.

Grease rain sounds like a good time. In DOS1, half the battlefield was perpetually on fire in every fight because of my spellcasting party. Explosions everywhere mwahahahaha.

Hope they didn't have any plans for stretch goals at 550k and 600k, because the campaign is going to be flying past 600k in an hour or two :p

It took me too long to finally go for the last one and I've loved playing it co-op. Double pack ordered and I'm barely a few hours in with my fiance playing the first!

Don't worry, I'll have the camera in his face again very regularly. ;)

Today has been absolutely insane, we still can't get over how fast all of this has gone. Really curious what the next days will bring. And we love reading all these comments, it's awesome to see that people are as excited as we are.

They totally deserve the quick funding. Without a doubt, Divinity Original Sin showed how adept they are at making an enjoyable expansive game. Can't wait for the next one.

Oh, Eric.

heh, this guy is being too modest for his own good. Original Sin no doubt sold well over 1 million copies when you add up the Steam and GOG sales. The game was a big hit. No doubts that the sequel was going to get funded at record speeds.

500k is a pretty low, bullshit goal, to be honest.

My enthusiasm for the first one fizzed out in the second map, pacing of that game was really awkward, i couldn't find any enemies for my player level and abandoned it... I think I will pass on the second one until playing the updated version of the first one.

I'm a bad person who hasn't bought the original yet, I really should get the $50 tier with it included shouldn't I?

I pledged $25, but I want Larian to weigh in on whether or not the alpha/beta will be a separate app (or apps) to the final release a la Pillars and now Torment. (Yes, it was me that submitted the suggestion. ;))

Amazing stuff.

Loved the first game while I played it. But after reaching the second map, it became way too hard for me.

But these developers deserve all the support they are getting, so I'll be sure to give some as well. Just a bit sad I missed the early price tier (25$), literally one left when I was reading through the pitch...
I pledged $25
So it was you who snagged it! ;)

Haha, actually there were still ~1,600 left (or ~6,000... well, there were four numbers and was a six in there somewhere) when I pledged, IIRC. I just forgot to post at the time. ;) I'll be yanking my pledge if there are to be no separate apps, though, since I've not yet played the original and therefore would have no interest in securing a pre-order for something I can just get later down the line.

Awesome. I need to remember to update my credit card AS soon as I get home from holiday.
So dann excited about this game already.

Not sure if this has been answered yet, but is PayPal going to be added to kickstarter?

"Bullshit" would be if they were to claim that this 500k is their entire development budget. Which is not what they are doing. At all.
Yeah, I may have used too harsh of a word.
There wasn't any way that wouldn't have been reached after the enourmous success of the first game, the only question was how much money they can get.

Swen drops by Angry Joe's house:

This looks really good. I guess there's a lot of content and balancing to do, but the ideas are great. Sven seems like he really knows his shit and has a genuine enthusiasm rather than a media-trained salesman's enthusiasm (cf. every E3/gamescon developer demonstration).

I doubt I'll have time to play this in multiplayer, but the ideas that will bleed over into single player seem amazing.
It's also good that the kickstarter seems legit. They want to use it as a gauge of how interested people are in funding extra branching storylines. True branching quests and dialogue are a lot of effort, and why Bioware et al tend to offer only the most basic illusion of choice.
We've seen the thread here about steam's oversaturation and sequels often doing poorly, so they won't want to spend all their cash reserves on adding content to a game that could flop. Kickstarter lets them be a lot more financially secure as well as letting them be confident that a large market exists.

This thread reminds me that I have to go back and finish the original. I was thinking about starting over to see the new NPCs they added, so I never completed it.

Their ideas sound really cool, and they've already shown that they can deliver a quality experience with the first game, I'll consider backing this.

I had the opportunity to look through the reward tiers now. If they offer a paypal option for the signed tier it will be hard to resist, otherwise Sourcerer-tier sounds good.
