Kickstarter: Divinity: Original Sin 2 [Over, $2 million funded]

Backed for 25. The first game's combat was the best I ever experienced in any CRPG. I liked it even better in retrospect after playing through Pillars.

Nice to see this kept up a good pace overnight. Might have already claimed a stretch goal or two before they're even announced.

Double Dibs. I didn't have to think about Backing or not, only how much money I could spare. I adore Original Sin, it's steadily becoming an all-time favorite.

They're having some really bold ideas for the sequel. Exciting stuff.

Really looking forward to Sven's blog and video updates. His love for his work and RPG's in general is alway's a joy to behold.

I'm so incredibly excited about this, I feel like a kid again.

Campaign is definitely going to pass $700k today. It would really be something if it reaches $944k (final amount of first Kickstarter) in three days, which at this rate is entirely possible

Now finally make the 750.000 USD tier console versions for X1 and PS4

PLEASE !!!

Given that it's running on the Enhanced Edition engine, I would be very surprised if this wasn't headed for consoles eventually no matter what. They could make a stretch goal out of it, but I think they're probably waiting to see how the EE reception is on consoles and/or want to focus on making the base PC version the best it can be.

Yea, there is a very good chance that D:OS is going to megabomb on consoles, so they probably don't want to dedicate development resources to it until they know there is an audience for it.

Focus Home is doing the console ports, so I imagine it'd be up to them this time around as well.

Only concern at this point is the the ambitious online systems will adversely impact the game design and/or use too many resources.

Of course, this is from someone who isn't interested in the competitive aspect and wonders how big an audience there is for it in a hardcore turn-based rpg.

First game sold over 500k copies as of September 2014

And while I was concerned about the MP focus at first, the dev's rationale convinced me oherwise. MP means each quest line and choice has to be very fleshed out because it has to be fun and engaging for different players. So single player will benefit by having incredibly fleshed out and expanded quests and emergent options and gameplay choices.

Would actually make sense to wait how it does on consoles before deciding to do another one :-)

I was referring to the audience for the competitive mp mode. It wasn't in the first game.

As far as I know, nobody has attempted to do what they are doing with the competitive questing in this. Hard for there to be an audience for something that's brand new.

Edit: got beaten to the punch there

Bah! I said I was done with Kickstarter for the year, now fucking Larian Studios is making a liar out of me...

Alright, I'm in. Enhanced Edition will probably spur me to finish up OS as well, I got as far as killing the elemental king and then other stuff took over my life

looking at the two demo videos, it looks like a lot of the effort this time round if going to go into sheer amount of races, skills, backgrounds, competitive quests, personal story lines and dialogue options. So mainly writing.

Also watching the two demos, with the "dark source" & "so many oppurtunities to fuck over your friends" options, this feels perfect base for Avellone to write some content for.
Didn't they make quite some money with the first release? Maybe I'm stupid, but why don't they finance it with that?

they made a post on that

If they only knew the response this Kickstarter was going to get
There’s no guarantee that we’ll have any success. If we were to fail, I guess that will mean we’re on the wrong track, and that we would have to return to the drawing board. It would be a real pity if that happens, but there’s no certainties in life, and perhaps we’re completely wrong about this. But that too would still be valuable feedback.

Finally got a chance to login and pledge, managed to snag a $25 Divine Dibs, yes!!

Now to actually get around to finishing 1. Director's Cut when!?!?

I didn't get a chance to back the first game, but I'm glad I could back this one.
Every good local co-op RPG game will get my support.

New tiers are up. I really wanted a hoodie, but it was too much of a jump for me from the collectors edition tier. Now I am in for the Divine Hoodie Redux tier.

You know how when a Kickstarter project gets funded and the developers act all surprised and then a huge list of stretch goals show up immediately? This is not one of those times. :p

I'm struggling to rein in my expectations. Orthodox developments like improved role-playing (with the emphasis on origins), four-player multiplayer, and refinements to combat and the character sheet are enough to take a good game into the top tier of RPGs (the combat system alone has it knocking at the door). But if they deliver on the competitive multiplayer aspect, we could be talking about an all-time classic.

What they need to improve is the writing in general. That was the main issue I had with the first one. The writing was really dull.

And yet apparently day/night and NPC schedules are off the table. Larian, you'll never have that Ultima VII-like masterpiece without that. Heck, Ultima V had it. Backed at $25 for now, though.

Backed! Really enjoyed playing through the first one. Although I never did finish it, will probably get back to it once the EE patch goes live.
