Killzone Shadow Fall 9 minutes of single player gameplay

All I have to say about the BF4 & KZ comparison is...

c7NJRa2.gif

They both look like a ton of fun!
You have to pick a side. You think this is a motherfucking game? It's a next gen war!

Single player looks great, but I want to see more multiplayer.. Show me more footage, maps, guns...anybody got some new footage?

People bullshit when they say this game doesn't look fun at all. GTFO w/ that BS. The weapons, sound, kills and graphics... all so satisfying.

I'm really excited for this game. Guerrilla definitely made the right decision in taking the series in a different direction, and I think that based on everything we know so far and the footage they've released, it will be the best Killzone campaign to date.

Just to break it down:

Positives -
*Large, open levels with varied ways to tackle objectives. The OWL should allow for some tactical options and I love having the option of what order to perform objectives in. It's little optional things like that which give a shooter just the right level of depth for my tastes
*It's fucking gorgeous, both technically and artistically
*Gunplay looks awesome, weapon models are beautiful, enemy AI seems as great as ever
*It seems like there actually exploring the racial tension and politics of the two factions this time around; clearly the most interesting story aspect which has been mostly missing from the previous titles
*Big levels and beautiful vistas. I know it's shallow, but if you want your game to feel important just give me fucking massive levels that look like they exist without my input
*Edit - levels appear to be highly destructible. This is a Very Good Thing. More of this please devs

Neutrals -
*I don't really know much about unlocked frame rates, but I'm sure Guerrilla know what's best for their game over a bunch of armchair critics on GAF.

Negatives -
*The characters and storytelling in all three prior mainline games has been really bad. Actually, it arguably got worse each game. I hope this is drastically improved in Shadow Fall, but for the moment I'll remain sceptical.
*No campaign co-op. I'm sure this would be tricky with the level of visuals they're going for, but I like campaign co-op in all my shooters where possible

So hyped for this. Anyone know when the embargo lifts? I remember Killzone 2's lifted about three weeks before its release, but obviously that won't happen here as Sony won't want it lost in the noise. If this game is as good and as successful as I think it will be, Guerrilla will be one of Sony's most valuable studios, in company such as Naughty Dog and Polyphony.

Typo on the box?

It's a thread about KZSF ......... you want to discuss it vs other games? ............ Make a thread, stop crying about this one.

I will do just that -- with an emphasis on technical merits. KZSF (PS4) vs. BF4 (PC Ultra)

Btw, I didn't interpret the poster I responded to as giving a subjective opinion as that's unarguable. I truly thought he was talking about KZSF having a more advanced graphics engine and based on what is being shown -- a visually superior experience compared to BF4 and Crysis 3 on the PC. That type of claim is hard to resist arguing I'm afraid..

And to be clear, KZSF is mine Day 1. ;) I pre-ordered it with my PS4 back in June. And I do think it's the best looking next-gen console game coming out. Although Ryse is a very close 2nd IMO.

This game is extremely pretty, it's a shame GG are STILL making Killzone games and don't use that talent to make another game first. I'm bored of KZ

They are making another game though aren't they?

VSA are Vektan Security Agency

they are only the ISA - Interplanetary Strategic Alliance when doing a intergalatic operation under the jurisdiction of Earth

so the military of Vekta is the VSA
VSA.png

and the intergalactic military of Earth and its colonies is the ISA

Edit: when I mean under Earth's rule then what I really mean is under the United Colonial Nations rule

Example Mars is also a colony if under attack then the ISA would protect it
if it is a internal affair then the Mars military would....

since a war hasn't officially broke out in Vekta then it is the VSA's responsibilities to control the situation

The facial animations still bug the hell out of me. The lip syncing is terrible and shatters the great realism and detail of the models themselves

Yea, it does seem that some models are much better than others though. The hostages look horrible and animations are very stiff. We'll see in a few weeks..

Glad I'm not the only one trying to decide between this and BF4.

I watched this multiplayer vid and the framerate shuddered pretty bad. Maybe it was just the youtube player on my tablet?

I like the addition of espionage and the sci-fi setting, if anything, that's what's making me lean more towards it than BF.

I realize that the story arch has concluded from killzone 1-3 to some extent; But I wonder a couple things.

-In the story trailer
Visari's daughter is stating that the ISA's aggression destroyed the planet
To some extent this is partially true. We know the power vacuum that occurred and Stahl was the one who wanted to invade earth with is petrosite bombs. The Nuke ignites the petrosite and causes a chain reaction with the instability of the planet and Helgan is destroyed.

-Since such convection is displayed here by the new Helgan leader, I wonder if the remaining ISA was charged for war crimes especially after being ordered to surrender. This is all being in hind sight now but i wonder if it will be mentioned. I just want a deep story.

With I believe in the Herman Hulst interview on the new story format being such as a cold war era. I guess this is where the 2 sides like he stated follow into that extremely grey area to whom are right or wrong in this Sci Fi setting.

And forgive me if this is in the wrong thread.

Looks lovely!

Still confuses the hell out of me though as to why there are no reflections as your character approaches a door - even without firing your gun!!!

Anyone else wonder this?

You can only copy what's on the screen for that particular technique they're using. But most surfaces look less reflective head-on, so they almost get away with it. (Reflections when looking at the door are done with predrawn cubemaps so you only get scenery reflected there.)

The graphics are out of this world, but I feel some of the gun model animations are lacking. As are the ragdoll bullet impacts. I still believe these videos are from an old build though. GG did state that everything receive a massive upgrade including the animations so we'll see.

Thanks.

I know I'm being pedantic but why only predraw, seems kinda cheap, although most will probably say it doesn't matter, which I can agree with also.

Surely though, little touches like this set games apart in immersion.

Ah well, thanks again :-)

So two questions:

Does this have brutal melee reversals like KZ Mercenaries?

In this GIF was he using that ability to reverse the spotlight move?

I had the sound off the entire time I was making the GIFs. Here's the video with the interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nwodEWQinI

I just wished for a more reactive world. For example, foliage reacting to players as they move through them (Uncharted had it) or objects not nailed to ground being somewhat displaced when explosives go off nearby etc.

This is their first swing at the PS4 and it has been in development for 2.5 years.

Is Shadow Martial correct? I thought it was supposed to be Marshall.

Glad I-Lo is posting MP gifs now. Love the gifs but am terrified of anything from the story trailer.

That's "cheap" reflections.. been done this gen in a lot of games.

Next-gen should have the power to do realtime reflections for every frame.. and with at least more than 1 object being tagged as "reflective" on surfaces.

I knew that but I thought it had two L's at the end.

t̶h̶e̶y̶ ̶o̶d̶d̶l̶y̶ ̶u̶s̶e̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶B̶r̶i̶t̶i̶s̶h̶ ̶w̶o̶r̶d̶i̶n̶g̶- Edit I mean the two 'll' Marshall is the British wording

yes the whole back box is a mess wonder if it is legit or not

Edit: reading quickly will be the end of me
