Holy smokes, just got my Kindle Fire and got it rooted. It's running Ice Cream sandwich nicely. All for $169. AWESOME.

The buzz around the internet is that a Kindle Fire 2 will be releasing sometime this summer. I hope they add a camera and actual buttons for volume control.

What's on the wishlist for you guys?

IDK, don't need the camera, and every media player I use has its own on-screen volume control. Faster cpu + bigger mem would be nice, I guess.

Amazon will never use the actual Google OS, but update their custom Kindle OS. Also no way it will be OLED. Kindle Fire is marketed as the cheap low-end tablet option, they won't have high-end stuff like OLED any time soon.

Yeah, sorry, I meant I hope the base their forked version off 4.0.

Edit - I know the oled is a long shot, but it's a wishlist. :p

A bit more than just a long shot. ;) Even the high end tablets like the latest Transformer Prime and iPad 3 won't be OLED. It's like expecting the latest minivan to outclass the latest high end sports car.

A camera is probably likely though.

I was hesitant to post any because it's just a bunch of random sites that I don't know the credibility of but with that disclaimer out of the way here you go:

Adding to my wishlist:

Bigger screen and nicer screen. 10 inches would be fine.
Removable storage.
Blu-tooth (maybe)

Thank you, sir!

Bigger screens have been rumored even before the fire launched, so we will see a 9/10 inch screen. I'm excited to see what amazon does with the fire 2. Hopefully they improve on the fire.

Kindle Fire 2 is likely to be a fairly large upgrade seeing as Kindle Fire was rushed seemingly from some Blackberry Playbook design and not designed by Team 126. Also adds a little credence of it launching a bit sooner rather than on the anniversary.

IIRC the main rumors were that they were toying with 10" screens. Also technology estimates seem to point to color e-ink devices (of which Amazon will likely be the first to sell and popularize) to arrive this year.

Does anyone here use the Maxthon Browser?

I just downloaded it today, and holy smokes does it destroy Silk. It looks better, pages load faster and it is an all around much better browsing experience. I like it more than my sideloaded version of Dolphin.

Just tried it out after reading your post, and I like Silk's UI better overall, but I found that Maxthon let's me watch HD youtube vids, which I can't do with Silk, so I'll keep it around for that.

I prefer the Silk UI as well, but Maxthon loads faster and shows more page real estate in full screen mode. Imho Maxthon and Opera are better browsers, but I like Silk's UI.

Does anyone in here subscribe to the economist? I've tried to run their app on my rooted kindle and downloading the issues always fails.

Does this work for anyone else?

Did a little "Spring cleaning" of my Blu-ray, DVD, game library; getting rid of stuff I haven't watched or played in months/years. I prefer to use Amazon's trade in program for stuff like this just because it takes the hassle out of listing each individual item, and then waiting who knows how long for a buyer to come along. Turns out I'm gonna end up with $215 in Amazon credit.

I'll be joining the Fire party soon.

I love my Kindle Fire, I even read on it now. The form factor is so perfect...the iPad was just too big for truly mobile browsing. I can even fit my Kindle in my jacket pocket.

For $169 it's an incredible value.

Yeah, the form factor is the big reason I want it. The rumors of a 10 inch Fire coming this Summer/Fall don't interest me a bit, and kind of defeats the purpose of the device. If I want a tablet of that size, with the specs such a device would require, I'll get an iPad sometime down the road.

How about just make it lighter and cheaper instead? There is no point competing iPad in gaming and (arguably) content creation. So, just forget about game controller and keyboard, concentrate on media consumption.

$150, still 7" screen, 1/3 lighter but maintain the same battery life, cpu+gpu powerful enough to play Youtube and Netflix smoothly.

Supplier Chatter Suggests New HD Models Of Kindle Fire Forthcoming

Early in 2011, upstream suppliers of displays and components let a few of Amazon’s secrets into the open, and these early, incomplete indications were actually on whole quite correct. Now we’re seeing more of the same kind of thing predicting the coming year’s announcements from Amazon, and the predictions seem just as reasonable.

The news is what you might expect: a diversification of the Kindle Fire lineup, with a focus on display quality — and presumably thrift, considering the series’ low price.

Supplier data, reported by China Economic News Service, points to the original 1024×600, 7″ tablet still being offered for the foreseeable future — which makes sense, since it’s a popular device, low cost, and there are probably a couple million in warehouses selling at a steady rate. Next there would be an update to that form factor, improving it with a 1280×800 pixel display. That would allow them to advertise it as “HD,” since 720p content could be shown easily.

Last, there is a new size, 8.9″, with a full HD (1920×1080) display. This would have a pixel density of around 250ppi, just below the new iPad’s. The new 7″ one would be ~215ppi, and the current device (among others) sits around 170ppi.

I'd be all over a 8.9" Fire with a super high rez screen.I can't wait to see what materializes.

I've come to really love my Kindle Fire.
I use it primarily for reading.
The form factor is the key for me. It's much more portable than an iPad.
The only way I'd switch to an iPad is if they made a smaller model.

i love mine as well, primarily used for reading and the occasional browsing/emailing.

anyone know if the silk browser can stream windows media files? is there another free browser available for the kindle?

You could get Dolphin HD Browser, and Opera on your fire. I'm assuming you could just download the apk, and install them. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Still no UK release date, grr.

I know fine well I can influence the launch date, though. All I need to do is give in and buy a normal kindle and the very next day on amazon.co.uk will be KINDLE FIRE, IN THE UK, TODAY!

Heads up. Amazon is pushing out a new update. (6.3). One thing I noticed right off the bat, is now you can lower the brightness.

For some reason the update seems to have increased the performance of some if my apps, like angry birds. I could be wrong. It feels snappier.

So I bought the Special Offers edition

First time seeing the thing? It fell out of the box and onto my big toe. For something so light, it really fucking hurt

Oh this is the Fire version. Whatever, I still think it's a great story.
