Gamasutra.
I have this also and can vouch for the quality it seems very well built and the hand strap on the back is much more useful than I imagined it would be.

Edit: Sorry this is actually the Marware case that I have. I didn't notice that the previous link wasn't for the leather one.

Yeah, looks nice. I wanted something as small and light as possible, and the shell does the job. Main win for me is a way to keep the screen a little more protected, with something that closes tight on top.

Also, that nicer case is commensurately more expensive. Original question was for cheap, I think. ;)

Is there a specific reason as to why all of my album art looks like pixelated trash?

Thinking of mounting a tablet in my car and the Fire is the perfect size, but high quality digital album art is a huge pet peeve of mine.

Is this for music bought on the amazon store?

Both music bought on the store and loaded onto the Fire itself.

From a distance you can kind of tell but upclose it's terrible. I've even gone as far as retagging the artwork in the individual file metadata. That was a no go.

After using my Kindle Fire for about a month, I have concluded that it is one of the best purchases I've made in the past couple of years. I've gotten through so many more books on this device than I have in print. And it's only been a month. Pretty amazing.

I have had mine for a little under a month, and I agree with you. Coming from someone who hasn't picked up a book in years, already buying my second ebook, and grabbing a third from the lending library soon. Love my fire.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
As a book it is pretty great I've also gotten through tons of books on it. As to everything else, Meh. Really wish it had a camera, the screen quality isn't stunning, lack of physical buttons (volume) is really a pain sometimes. The overall build quality, buttons withstanding, is great though.

I expect a Kindle Fire 2 will address some of those issues and be badass.

Got mine for Christmas and it's pretty amazing. It's nice to have tons of books with me on the commute to and from work every day.

How well do they run on Fire?
I don't really like how Edge works (could be an Android problem in general though). You need to "drag" in the direction you want to move and it's just not playable with so much lag and unresponsiveness

Didn't try any of the others

For $199 I don't find the device 'meh' at all. Strong build quality, good size screen, competent web browser, defined uniform UI, apps, comics....

Netflixs and other apps aren't perfect...but they can be improved upon.

Adding a camera would be nice but even without wouldn't u say the kindle is a very good device for $200?

It may not even be the 'best' of the $200 devices, depending on a person's view on the Nook Tablet.

However, those two are certainly the best bang for the buck at 200. Not going to get much better than them at that price, though I'd be real interested in seeing what the $250 ICS tablet will look like.

Kindle Fire owners can get in on some nice software deals with the newest Humble Indie Bundle with Android packages:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=461386

I've installed World of Goo, Osmos (mobile edition), and Edge so far. Only opened WoG and played it a bit...

Thanks!

Pretty well so far. Tried all of them. Only had trouble with one installing it.

What a heck of a deal.

So.... I watched two episodes of Supernatural (Netflix) on the Fire last night. Fell asleep with it beside me, but woke up and it was on the floor.

Freaked out for a bit but haven't noticed anything out of the norm. Gotta be more careful.

Hey, is TWONKY the best solution for streaming local media from the PC to the Fire? I'm going to purchase it this weekend if it's the best solution, but I would appreciate suggestions.

Also....anyone using a STYLUS with their Fire? Grabbing one of those this weekend as well.

If your videos don't require transcoding, BS player can play videos off shared network drives.

Going back, and forth between which I should go with. Leather seems like a great buy, but expensive. The light one seems good. I would be buying two of them, which is why I'm leaning towards the light one.

I can get a kindle fire for free (consider it like a $200 gift card and I can either get video games/movies or the kindle fire)

But I just strongly need to be convinced to switch to ebooks. I had an iPad 2, and I tried reading a ebook...it was great experience but I just couldn't get my head into succumbing to this technological era. I love being traditional!

Persuade me ebook-gaf!!

Well, if you really want to get into ebook reading, you should get an e-ink Kindle. Reading on the Fire is going to be pretty similar to reading on the ipad. They're both backlit LCD screens.

The whole idea of e-ink is zero eye strain since it's like reading actual paper.

If you just want to read get a Kindle Touch. :)

Amazon need to hurry up and bring this out in the UK. I'm starting to look at some of the other cheaper tablets now and getting impatient!

You can double tap a comic you are reading to go into a "panel by panel" mode where each panel is individually zoomed into (with smooth transitions that mirror the path your eyes would follow on the page). You advance to the next panel by swiping across the screen or tapping the right edge of the screen.

It's similar to the PSP comic app's panel-by-panel view (if you ever used that).

does this double tap zoom in only work with digital comics you purchase through amazon? will it work with cbz cbr png etc (scans of physical copies) files I upload of comics I already have on my computer?

Every fire owner gets a year of Prime right?

Nickelodeon, Spike,TV Land, MTV, ComedyCentral and others are going to be available to Prim and Fire owners.

Background apps. Anyway to keep unwanted apps from starting up without notice and uusing up system resources?

I'm already anxious for another OS update.

Have Amazon said anymore about the Fire getting released outside the US? Just looked on the UK site and it says "Not currently available". Just wondering if they've mentioned when this would change. So I can buy one. With money.

Just got the kindle fire for $150 at walmart. Sale still going on until tomorrow.

I don't like UI at all. Rooted it right away and installed android 4.0 on it.

Very nice tablet so far.

Buy a book on the kindle store and read it on your PC, iPhone, iPad, WinPhone7, Android, PC, Kindle, etc..
Or buy a book on iTunes and get locked into only reading it on iPhone or iPad.

Choices...

The thing is, I have well over $100 of itunes gift cards. I'd love to be able to buy books to read on my Kindle using that money.

Apple's policies make that impossible for you.

Apple take a 30% cut on all items sold in their store so Amazon and a bunch of other booksellers removed the ability to do in-app purchases from the iOS apps

My Netflix app updated the other day, and I've noticed a big increase in the performance. No hiccups, audio issues, etc.
