I can. Back when this thing was rumored to be in production months ago, word was the first iteration would be quickly put together for the Holidays as a stopgap. It supposedly wasn't even designed by Lab126, but the successor will be.

Loki said:Hysterical how people will lap this up despite it being a pretty clearly rushed "stopgap" with several flaws. "B...b..but it's Amazon!" Why anyone would give their money to a company who is basically playing people for idiots (by releasing a subpar device despite having enormous resources and being a year late to market in the 7" tab category) is beyond me. But maybe that's just me.
I have a big problem with huge companies in general when they get too big for their britches and start just assuming success based on their brand name without really delivering the quality people deserve. Hated it with WalMart, hated it with Sony in the gaming arena, hate it now with Amazon.

Snaku said:Agreed. Here's hoping the Nook Tablet doesn't get lost in the Kindle Fire hype machine, as the hands on videos so far look fantastic.

B&N has had over a year in tablet experience and it's certainly showing now. Beefy specs, refined design, and what looks to be a more pleasurable user experience compared to the Fire. The only thing they lack is content outside of books and periodicals, though B&N said they'll be announcing new 3rd party partnerships to remedy that soon.
Marty Chinn said:It will get lost in the Kindle Fire hype machine though. Look at the Nook Touch. Arguably the best eReader out there but everyone still talks Kindle. The Nook line just doesn't have the public on its side.
zou said:ugh, just got the kindle fire and have been setting it up. I hope If the wifi network screen is not an indication of things to come, scrolling the list was incredibly laggy and jerky..
edit: so scrolling in general is not an issue, it's fast, responsive and accurate. And I like that when you stop scrolling, it automatically changes the position to include any item that otherwise would be only partially visible.
but holy shit is the quality of the streamed videos horrible. it's one giant pixelated mess, almost to the point of being unwatchable. there better be an option to increase the quality, or it's going right back.
edit 2: what the hell, it enters sleep mode after something like 10 seconds, disconnects wifi and throws you out of the current video. And reconnecting is so slow that after unlocking and trying to resume the video it tells me "active wifi connection" required. what the fucking hell amazon.
Otheradam said:Yes, the sleep thing is really, really annoying. I can't believe they let this out like that.

Am I the only guy feeling happy with this 200 dollars purchase? After 2 nights of use, still pretty good.

You're comparing the last generation Kindle to the Nook Touch? I guess we should mention the Nook touch is also better than both the Kindle 1 and Kindle 2. The K3 went on sale in August of 2010, so for almost a year it provided the superior reading experience with the eInk Pearl display.Loki said:Goes to show you the sway these huge mega-companies like Amazon, Google etc. have in terms of mindshare. The Nook Touch was worlds beyond Kindle 3 in every respect, and though it sold well, I doubt it sold anywhere close to what the K3 did. The Nook Tablet also looks to be the superior product - at the very least, it wasn't rushed out the door, which imo is an insult to customers given Amazon's resources and how far behind they were in coming to market.
If Amazon were a smaller company and wasn't able to eat the $10-50 they purportedly lose on the sale of each device, and had to come to market at $220-$250, the difference would be even more stark.
On a side note, I am firmly against companies in any industry being allowed to sell any product below cost. At cost? Fine. But not below. All it does is give larger companies an inherent and oftentimes insurmountable advantage.
I'm very satisfied. All my issues are software related, and considering this is the 1.0 of the OS, I'm good to wait.luoapp said:Of course there is.

I'm happy with mine. Reponse and video framerate is choppy if something else is downloading in the background, but otherwise solid for me. Doesn't go to sleep if I'm playing a video from Amazon or Netflix. For a $200 7" tablet, it has met or exceeded my expectations.luoapp said:Of course there is.

Garryk said:Just watched the Tested QL and they said that if you want this thing for browsing and general use then this is not the device for you. Is this pretty much the consensus? Has Amazon addressed any of the issues yet or mentioned patches in the near future? My laptop is shot and I wanted to get something to bridge the gap between now and when the iPad 3 comes out.

I went to Target and was going to buy one, but something told me to wait for the one Amazon is sending me. I watched the Tested QL and he said the serial number on the box is tied to your account. So, I'm not sure how that would play out with returning the one I got from Amazon to Target. I played around with the demo unit some more and I still think it's an awesome device. Also, I got mine for $192.99 with 1-day shipping (I realize I won't get it in 1 day). There's a code you can put in at checkout that brings the total to $189.99 if you're using Mastercard.nemss said:Nope, same exact packaging, which is actually pretty nice.

There is an email listed in Docs that you can send them to, or you can connect it to your PC.YagizY said:Um, so how do I get my Mobi's on this thing? I can't figure it out.
luoapp said:I think Tested guys are overly harsh to it for a very special reason: their homepage tested.com loads very slowly on Fire. And the reason? It's bloated with youtube videos ( I'm counting 6 as of now).

Hard to believe. Check (or change) your kindle email address on Amazon.com. You need a micro USB cable to connect to PC.YagizY said:I tried sending a Mobi to that address and it didnt work. What type of cable is needed because none of mine are working.

[EDIT] Hold up it took a while to sync. Now is there a way to move it to books instead of docs?
I noticed that too.pistolpete2940 said:Is anyone's indicator light off when you charge your kindle while it's off? There seems to be no indication whether it's charging or not :/

Part of it is the reason why I've always held off on getting an iPad: I have a desktop, I have an iPhone (and even that has been relegating to *just* a podcast + phone machine) , I don't really need a tablet.
So I didn't need a tablet, I bought a tablet, and I find that I don't need a tablet.
Figures.
Nah, I'll repackage it and send it to someone as a Christmas gift.Snaku said:Send it back.

You buy the tablet that can't take sd card as your photography companion?Darkness said:I bought it to use as a digital photography portfolio. Works out really nicely so far - fits right in my camera bag. I'm also using it for internet/email and some PDFs. No complaints. Thing is easy to use and moves fast. The display is awesome for my photos and I like the smaller tablet size. For $200 it works out perfectly for what I need.
